I don't think so. I think it's important to emphasize that Paul has to rip on Gene rather than accept the possibility that his thinking was, in retrospect, gutless and idiotic. An intelligent person would recognize that as an opportunity for growth, but no. Paul's ego is too fragile to accept that his own behavior could have been so stupid. For that reason, that growth will forever remain out of Paul's reach. Sadly, he'll die stupid AND gutless.
Heaven forbid, Kiss ever come off as looking "goofy"!! No, no, no - people need to take the band selling "Kiss Coffins", "Kiss Deodorant" and "Kiss Air Guitar Strings" (literally an empty bag lol) 100% seriously!
the guitar strings thing is real? that would be a special kind of exploitation of fans and would give an extra layer of dirt to the term “money grab”.
The biggest downfall of KISS was Gene and Pauls malignant narcissism.

Gene took the 80's off to be a generic B actor yet Paul does not deride him and say he lost the right to wear his Demon outfit for not being a team player.
In Kiss, Paul and Gene are a bit like Mick and Keith in the Stones. They couldn't be more different and in some ways don't even like each other, but they supplement each others' shortcomings well enough to make good music and business partners. On the good days, they are greater than the sum of their parts.
In the Stones, I think that it seriously burns Jagger right down to his ego to realize how much he needs Keith and the only way that he would ever admit it is under torture. It's the same thing with Paul. He's always needed Gene and he knows it.
well i think it was a real dick head move to not have Ace and Peter and Bruce up onstage for a couple of songs on their last tour, or especially at the last show, totally narcissistic !!!
Gene was the most shock. The whole band represented it, but Gene was the most outrageous. Shock gets the instant attention. Where would the public concept of the original band have been without Gene encapsulating that shock value? He did his job just as much as Paul and the rest of the guys did. Their jobs were different. His drew big attention.
In retrospect, Gene probably wished he would have handled parts of the MD Show a little differently, but he was young and new to the attention. The band as a whole were still fleshing out their identities in more than one respect. There were their character identities and their musical identities. Who hasn't flubbed a little and cringed at a misspoken word or a poorly thought out action? We all look back and say "I wish I had..." this or that. Totie Fields certainly didn't seem to mind his antics.

When my older Sister was 13 or 14 our Parents gave her permission to order some Records from the BMG Record Company . Up until then the only Music we'd ever heard was the drunk Stepdads Old Country Music .
So my Sister chose what looked interesting . 3 of the 10 were the first 3 KISS Albums . The Album Covers looked kinda scared her so she gave them to me . And she also gave me a 4th Album . The name of the band was The Mamma's and The Poppas . In my opinion , I couldn't have asked for a better Introduction to Playing Guitar by listening to Ace and Paul . And my Introduction to Songwriting with the Mommas and the Poppas . I'd say I got lucky cuz I landed a Job with
Princess Cruise Lines as a Professional Musician/ Guitarist .

On the fire breathing, Gene thought when Bill approached the band about fire breathing he asked who does not want to do it ? Everyone raised there hands exceot Gene. Gene thought Bill asked who would ( like ) to breath fire. Ive read that in a book and saw Gene say it in an interview.
