  • Dimmuborgir, or the Black Fortress, is a dramatic expanse of lava in the Lake Mývatn area. Steeped with folklore, it is one of the most popular destinations for travellers to north Iceland. The Dimmuborgir area is composed of various volcanic caves and rock formations, reminiscent of an ancient collapsed citadel (hence the name). Dimmuborgir was formed in an eruption that occurred in the area some 2300 years ago.

@IcelandHotSpots I'm so focused as usual on the magnificent and supernatural landscapes of Iceland, that I almost felt the wind in this video, which like the others is superb....really impatient to come and discover. Bravo 👏🏻 and Kærar þakkir 🙂

The cave in the end of the video is called the Troll church (Tröllakirkja). Very cool geological formations in the area.

Every step so smooth.❤ when i filmed this and we were accidentally walking to hverfjall crater but we did not go up we just wanted to do this circle but ended up at the crater because we did walk on after we passed thru the rock with a hole in it and my camera was all over the place while i was climbing over the rocks lol

    10:50 Death Stranding Anyone? ;)
Also, I'd recommend to pay a visit to the Mývatn Natural Baths which are located very close to Dimmuborgir... one of the best thermal baths in Iceland IMHO.

I'm really surprised that this is the place the famed Norwegian black metal band named themselves after. I expected it to look all dark and evil. 😂
