I think the color changing setup screen is a very smart idea. The progress is an unknown. But nobody likes staring at one of those progress bars that goes back and forth. The color changing gives you something to know it is not frozen without drawing all of your attention to one widget, like staring at a clock all day.

Continuum, man that word summoned old dark memories of WP.
I was a staunch user of WP, ran with it until the very end. Started with WP7 with a Lumia 610. Got sidelined when it couldn't upgrade to WP8 and stuck at WP 7.8. Alright then, got a Lumia 925 (which was cutting edge at that time). Promised Windows 10 Mobile along with all the great features. Got thrown off the bus again (granted, technical issues, but still). Started to lose faith, so picked a 640XL instead of a flagship 950.
Then nothing, with this and that, the whole ordeal feels like beta software througj and through.
Jumped to Android. I like WP but man it was troubled and full of broken promises.
Yeah if they didnt loose faith in Windows Phone and whopped Google in the ass Continuum is basically Windows on ARM, so it would of been completed by now.
Reminds me of Apple’s “continuity “/“handoff”
@@silvy7394 "whopped Google in the ass" Sounds painful
It's so true, even the software in Windows 10 Phone is garbage. Sometime, the phone vibrates without stopping when a key is pressed, I need to pull the battery to restart the phone to solve the issue. The Edge browser is garbage too, it constantly refreshes the page without any reason. The initial input editing is terrible but improved after a few upgrades. It s sad that we will love windows phone.
I loved my 925. I actually had Windows 10 Mobile on it, as it was available for the insider program. I enrolled after Windows 10 Mobile was in public release, upgraded to the slow ring, then backed off into the release (basically the non-insider) ring. Fun times, Cortana was always better in 'beta' on Windows Phone 8.1 than it ever was on Windows 10 (mobile or desktop). Such a shame, especially because its competitors at the time were jokes, the Google Assistant couldn't do anything but searches and basic reminders/alarms and Siri couldn't understand a word you said. As much as I loved my Windows-only ecosystem, I'm glad I was forced to make the jump to Android, and the Google Assistant actually does stuff now (although I still miss people-based reminders).
Windows 10 is definitely my main Windows operating system as of late 2015, so this video is educational. Good job on it!

I wish Windows phones had become more popular though. I had a Palm Treo with Windows mobile at one time. (Yes, Palm actually had phones with a NON Palm OS!).
I agree people treat windows 10 like it’s windows me or windows vista like it’s not that bad and have you ever even tried to use it because if you haven’t then how do you know you hate it and I never had problems with windows 10 and the update things it just asked me if I want to schedule it and I schedule it for like usually midnight when I’m not using my laptop

The reason they named it Windows 10 is probably to catch up with the trend that versions ending with 10 or X looks much cooler, and I think they did the same as what MacOS did, ending with MacOS X and continues to update it occasionally.
Microsoft disagrees
I was thinking when you'd make a video about Windows 10 development, and here it is!

Great video! I only recently came across your channel and am now binge watching, lol. I love the additional background information and commentary as it provides so much additional context than saying "ok yeah so here is this build.... let me poke around... ok now on to the next build.."
Overall I am a fan of Windows 10. I've been using Windows since 3.1 and it is amazing how much more stable the platform is these days. I mean it is not unheard of now to have your computer on 24/7 for over a month. That was definitely not anything that happened with some of the older versions of Windows, at least that was not the norm. Misbehaving applications and memory leaks were just something you lived with. Heck, back in the Win95 and 98 days, I think it was pretty common for people to just nuke and pave the OS at least once a year if not more often.
Thanks! Love all your videos MJD.

You should do a video of the evolution of Windows 10 through the builds we have tested as Insiders. It would be cool to re-live these steps.
Also cool for those who have never experienced that. I'd be so glad to watch such a video.
Insider builds are nothing like the beta builds we had before. They seem more boring and all look the same. They also add so little features, too.

I loved 10 back in 2015, but I feel the UI and general upkeep from Microsoft has really gone downhill over time and at this point it’s so annoyingly inconsistent that I have just bought a Mac! (I had gone back to Windows 7 for the past 2 years or so.) I feel crazy and never thought in a million years I’d ever leave Windows. I hope one day I can feel happy to go back.
10 was never good. It was always unstable, inconstant, clunky, and just ugly. Its basically just a minor backpedaling of the shit show that was Windows 8 but is still worse than Win 7 (which wasn't exactly good but was at least consistent and stable). If i could i would be using Linux full time by now however the software ecosystem simply isnt there yet and i still need Windows for work and MUH GAMEZ. I cant even just use Win 7 anymore because it doesn't work on new hardware and gets no security updates. I feel like Microsoft is holding me hostage.
I installed ubuntu and it runs much better on my PC, and i can use wine or native ports for most of my software
ScrewB well if you dont care about *shhh* illegal stuffs, get a copy of Windows 10 2018 LTSC. It’s basically Windows 10 like Windows 7. No feature updates, no frill store apps, no telemetry, literally just the OS. And then if you don’t like the start menu you can always use StartIsBack or OpenShell to bring back the Windows 7 one.
Why did you buy a Mac 😢 they’re just about to release new ones next Monday! Plus, they’re doing the ARM switch which could potentially mean your Mac could be dropped for support earlier than usual. I wouldn’t recommend the 1st gen ARM ones either though, just a heads up.
@@screwb1882 Windows10 is lagging because of your PC is bad or not that high spec. İt's lagging in my pc too but my friend has a good pc and he says it isnt lagging. “Windows 10 was created to make one ecosystem.”

That’s half the reason why each update they bring causes issues. Luckily I’ve not had this problem. What was even the point of One Ecosystem when they’ve already abandoned Windows Mobile the same day as Windows 7 support ended due to extremely low demand

I remember going onto the Microsoft website during 2013-2014 (I don't exactly remember) and seeing a link to join the insider preview and test the upcoming Windows 10 operating system and I immediately joined, set up a VM and installed it to try it out. Then after a while, once the builds had become more stable, I replaced my main OS with it and even though that could have been a stupid move, it worked out in the end.

14:39 In this year's update they stepped back from forcing you to use Microsoft Account and forcing Updates.
It's never been that way anyway. Give me a realiabe source.
@@a.m.653 I meant that in 1909 update during cleaninstalation you had to unplug internet if you wanted to avoid dealing with setting up Microsoft account, which was a real pain in the ass when I was setting up a computer for someone that doesn't use Microsoft Account. As for updating, before 2004 update you had to eventually install any update while shutting down or restarting, now you can do that like it had been before Windows 10 ( you can update or nor). Something interesting:
As many of you may know, Microsoft bought Mojang Studios, the company behind Minecraft, in 2014.
Windows 10/8 was an expansion upon unification between mobile, pc and console.
A few years later, Mojang released a new version of Minecraft, dubbed "Bedrock Edition", which was a unification between mobile, console, and the Windows 10 edition of Minecraft.
I guess Microsoft wants to unify devices as much as possible, it's interesting how they did the same thing with one of their properties. It's very much possible that those events are not related, but I found it interesting nonetheless.
Yes, that's why my favorite Minecraft edition is the Bedrock Edition because of cross platform.
@@VDani16 lol yep, im a java player myself
And what a coincidence, that bedrock edition is based on Minecraft PE, a version of Minecraft made for mobile devices.
And M$ decided to integrate mobile device crap into WinPadOS 10.
