  • A little background:
    - Purchased a new 2014 dorsoduro a couple of months back from the dealer and rode it home.
    - The next day the bike does not start.
    - Turns out the battery was faulty, dealer replaces it.
    - Week later, try to get back home from work, the bike does not start again.
    - Turns out the bolts that secure the battery terminals had damaged thread and did not screw all the way in resulting in the vibration unbolting them after a while.
    - Winter comes and brings motorcycle starting problems again as seen in the video.
On my previous motorcycle i had never had such problems even if the motorcycle was sitting outside for a month without starting, it started just fine.
Has the dealer installed an old bad battery (damaged bolts) which crapped on me again?
I also have an audible alarm connected to the battery which I did not have on the last bike. Could that be an issue?

It's the starter for God sake people . As soon as it gets 60 degrees outside the bike fires no problem . The starter doesn't spin fast enough to fire the engine . When it's warm it's much easier. My buddy has the same issue with his 750.

so what ended up fixing this problem? It is clear the engine is trying to fire, but sounds only on one cylinder. Smoke out the exhaust from too much gas/flooded? normally on fuel injection you do not need to hold open throttle at all, that can mess with engine starting.

I can help here as mine did the same. The problem is a weak battery. On initial press of the starter the voltage drops below 8V for a very short time causing the ECU to lock out. Even though it sounds like the battery is ok on cranking the bike will not start. I think a simple mod to the wiring with a diode and a capacitor could prevent this .

I had this same problem. Check the connectors on the starter as mine loosened bc of the vibration. Once tightened it was fine.

There is a sensor under the seat that prevents it from starting, when laying on the side, it might be loose.
