With 8.7:1 standard compression it should read 127.89 psi. ( 8.1 X 14.7 / 1 = 127.89 psi )

Your compression tester is failing to hold the pressure. If the engine is cold, then it is not too shaby for the needle to jump over 120psi.

Must have been low battery or something related to it

so what ended up fixing this problem? It is clear the engine is trying to fire, but sounds only on one cylinder. Smoke out the exhaust from too much gas/flooded? normally on fuel injection you do not need to hold open throttle at all, that can mess with engine starting.

What was the problem ?

I can help here as mine did the same. The problem is a weak battery. On initial press of the starter the voltage drops below 8V for a very short time causing the ECU to lock out. Even though it sounds like the battery is ok on cranking the bike will not start. I think a simple mod to the wiring with a diode and a capacitor could prevent this .

I had this same problem. Check the connectors on the starter as mine loosened bc of the vibration. Once tightened it was fine.

just had a same problem and specially when it gets colder outside. problem was solved after i recharged my battery to the max..

It's the starter for God sake people . As soon as it gets 60 degrees outside the bike fires no problem . The starter doesn't spin fast enough to fire the engine . When it's warm it's much easier. My buddy has the same issue with his 750.

I have the same problem with my 1200 dorsoduro. Got a tip that it might be the starter relay. Try to disconnect the starter relay and put the wires directly to the battery...if the engine turns, the relay must be changed...

Mam u siebie tak, że jak motor jest ciepły to podczas odpalania przygasa licznik na 3-5sek (jest cisza) i po tym czasie kręci rozrusznik, motor zapala a następnie włącza się licznik. Akumulator mam nowy, ma 12.9V, ładowanie na poziomie 14.1-14.2V. Styk na rozruszniku wyczyszczony, na aku też..a problem nadal występuje

try get better battery... or try to push and start on a 1 gear ... ir remember had same problem it was with battery it didn;t had enough power to hit the engine to start
