- Beginner Tattoo Artist Mistakes - Line Work - How To Fix It
Line work is the foundation to your entire tattoo. If your line work isn't good, your tattoo isn't good. No matter how good your shading is in your tattoo, that still cannot fix bad line work. There are a lot of common beginner tattoo artist mistakes when it comes to line work, and in todays video I will explain how to fix those line work mistakes.

If you are a beginner tattoo artist focusing on developing your artistic skill is very important. Learning to line and shade as a beginner tattoo artist can be really difficult because skin and needles are very different than any other canvas you are used to creating art on. When you are first learning to tattoo as a beginner, focusing less on equipment and more on how the skin responds to lining and shading is super important! Don't get discouraged when you are new to tattooing. Just keep learning!

How about a video with a chart that covers skin thicknesses on different parts of the body. Thanks for your videos!
Hmmmm I’d have to think about how to do that. But that is a good idea !
Thanks for watching :)
@@ThatTattooGuyOfficial3D Model on procreate?
@@sinav.3138 that’s something I need to figure out! Never used them before really!
@@ThatTattooGuyOfficial there are 3D Downloads you have to pay for... i just have a free Version, cause in my opinion, it's more a playful Thing but not really necessary for daily use in regular everyday tattooing process -only useful for rare specific Demonstration of, for example,a whole leg sleeve design, to the customer to show the surround view. But anyway, i had fun to try it... Sorry, for my english 🙈
@@sinav.3138 that makes sense. That’s how I always felt.. like when would I ever actually use this ? Lol
Ya so your videos are awesome and cover just about everything I need to be hearing as I've been tattooing for five months now. Thanks for the advice .
This really helps me thank u,im great on linework but have trouble shadeing knowing u cant just erase it
My issue is adjusting the volts and stretching properly on certain parts of skin but the more I tattoo areas I haven't the better I'll get thanks for the info ty
One of the biggest issues I’m having, is different areas of the body, and stretching them properly, it’d be nice to see different positions we can put them in to help with stretching
I actually recorded a video about this then never edited it. I’ll have to get on that!
Get a friend or your partner on the table, practice positioning and stretching techniques to find what works and doesn't, no need to put in any ink. Use the bodies joints to naturally pre-stretch the area. I'm a Massage Therapist and use a lot of that knowledge and similar positioning during tattoos, if you're having trouble finding tattoo specific videos have a search for massage therapy positioning.
@@Violaetor it’s not just position, but it’s a different stretch.. tattooing a boob or an ass can be so difficult, but I know there’s little secrets that make sum of those areas, like taking your headrest of your tablet when doing throats, but with boobs etc I don’t have any input on certain areas
@Cam-vd6wj the 'trick' with the headrest is that you are literally putting the neck flexors into a stretch. That's what I'm saying, look up positioning for stretches. Glutes, knee up to the chest or hanging off the table, breast (inner) flat on the back is a natural stretch, (outer) sidelying position.
Best tattoo instruction video I’ve seen. Great visual explanations that you don’t see everywhere. Good job
Thank you !

♥️
Great video, Would love to see more of these videos
Thanks! I’ll be making more!
this was great thank you
I'm new and my biggest issue with my lines is I just realized my RL is too small so I wasn't getting the boldness from my outline that I was wanting so I have to order larger sizes to fit my preference. I've only watched 2 of your videos so far and already been so helpful
You need to go more deeper, but i never tell my secrets. Nobody talk about needles. 😂😂😂
thank you my friend I like the way you explain and I fill my free time by making pictures on fake leather I like you explaining how to set up a rotary machine
Thanks for the videos! How about a video in what’s best positions to have clients in when tattooing different parts of the body?
I actually filmed that video months ago and never edited it lol I have to get on that
Can you make a video on line voltage fir shading and lining and different shading techniques
Boy.. great line work.. an area that returning tattoos will tell you the facts about your play.
I love the bishop liner, but on a daily i tend to use the packer, especially with smaller needle groupings.. if its a bigger grouping ill use the liner but its not always necessary
Great video.. couple decades down the line & id love to say i get every line right every day.. but its not true.. i do think lining isnt something that should be rushed.. slow down, take your time.. explain this to your clients.. theyll be fine once they realise your aiming at giving them the best long term healed ink thar you can..
I use round shaders for lining equally as much as i use liners, if not more nowadays.. you gotta hit em from above though, not 45°.. but hey.. tge end result is what i look for.. before anyone comments with a different opinion.. knock yiurself out in how ever you do it.. over time i just found what works for this tattooist 😉
Great content brother
Thank you !
I agree. It’s not something that you will get right Everytime. I do think tho it’s important to understand how to hide and fix errors.
Minimizing errors by taking your time is crucial for sure !
Thanks for watching !
What are the best cartridges for consistent thick lines round shaders
Shading but in depth details about transferring from one shade to another and making it look real smooth like hair grease. Examples: portraits, realism etc. please and thank you 🙏🏽
Will do!
Professor, what is the best speed of the device for the hips?
if I began with a harder hitter for example AVA Ep7 as a straight beginner, mostly interested in working on my fine line will this till be a good option?
What about if your lines look scratchy and not a solid black line ? Is that apart of not stretching the skin tight enough or do the cartridge need to be changed ?
Thank yu bruv i been doing heavy practice and due diligence with pen and paper, fake skin, oranges, even my own skin before I'm willing to tattoo someone else and even then I'm limiting myself to fonts and ease my way into traditional style and so forth while learning both my coil and rotary machines.
These videos are saving me the scoldings from the future apprenticeships I want so much but still am working very hard for. Thank you 🙏🏾
Thanx a lot, helped a lot ;0)
Any Time!
Sir, What is the best machine for a beginner?
You mention near the end of the video having a 5mm stroke machine. What do you use that stroke for mostly? You always have great content.
Lining and dot work.
Thank you!
I like to tattoo myself. So do you have any tips on stretching the skin? Its was really tough on the back, using my legs to stretch the skin on my forearm for 4 hours or so. I also like doing blackwork because its easier to hide lining mistakes! Great video btw & thanks for great tips! 🤟
The only thing I’ve ever tattooed on myself are my legs in easy spots. I’m not a gymnast lol
That’s a tough one. Sorry I don’t have any tips for ya!
Glad you like the videos tho!
Maybe yoga 🙃
I hate tattooing myself. It’s a back breaker … takes longer to recover my back than the tattoo 🥲
How to you camouflage a blow out? I did that on myself and would like to fix or camouflage it. Made the mistake of using to small of a needle
Hi man, can you help me ? I have one question and its make me crazy. So lets me try to explain you, the dermis has blood vessels, so even if the ink is placed correctly in the dermis, some of that will enter into that vessels, and while you are tattooing it can cause a strange effect from the ink if spread and travel through these vessels. But that's not a blowout, right?
Brother would you like to make a vdo about how to make color-full tattoo
❤❤
What matchine is the on 7:13?
Please Sir...
Could you please explain this video from
beginning to end because i don"t understand english very well. And then
i have to look at the translation.
Now I kno
What brand of practice skin do u suggest?
So far my favorite has been a pound of flesh
Also, do you think using a smaller needle knowing that with time the lines will get bolder. Is a good idea? Like the picture of your pumpkin girl. Instead of using a bigger needle to get the end result there and then. Use a smaller needle knowing with aging it’s going to get bolder. Idk if it makes sense but would love to know if I’m on the right track.
I see what you are saying. But it’s really all up to what you want it to look like.
Thinner liners show imperfections much easier as well so you need to know how to put it in the skin.
I like bold lines and I just make sure to design accordingly
I just started tattooing but for some reason da ink ain’t holdin…any pointers? I thought I wasn’t goin deep enuff but one tattoo look blew out da other looked perfect till it healed but da ink didn’t take.
Hiya mate if u do get any answers back. Theres a lad who i watch on utube called alex konti hope he might be able to help u mate
👌🏽👌🏽
You guys are the best iwantfreestuff 😊
This dude all mad at me over messed up lines if he didn't pass strait out wouldn't have happen
3:58 BLOWOUT JUMPSCARE
1:29 When broken is easily fixed
What do you mean?
@@ThatTattooGuyOfficial The design you did there is from the album when broken is easily fixed from the band silverstein.
What about fixing blowouts?
There’s not really a fix for them. You can disguise them with shading or making tapered lines. Can’t get rid of them tho
my mom has an avarage size booty
Nice
Coil is better you can tune your own sht
Fan of your videos, I've been since I started tattooing on my own 18 months ago. Started by myself watching your videos, tattooing my leg. Still have a lot to learn, but now I work full time in a studio, doing what I love 🥲 so, thank you for all the work and good information that you put into these videos, can't thank you enough (and sorry for my English)
Good for you for moving into a studio!
Glad to hear I was able to help!
