From causes of shaky lines I will also share with you all how I go about better practices to get rid of as much shakiness as I possibly can. I talk in depth so by the end of the video you will have a good understanding of common reasons shaky lines happen and you will also have exercise to incorporate into your workflow to better your lines.
Should you have any questions feel free to drop it in the comment section below and I will do my best to assist you in the best possible direction.

ALWAYS remember your breathing. We’re all guilty of holding our breath to get that perfectly straight line, but when you do, your body goes through atrophy. Your muscles jerk uncontrollably due to lack of oxygen. So.. BREATHE. Eat. Cut down on caffeine and get enough sleep. You’ll see a world of difference.
Ugh- this! It's so hard to breathe while lining 😭🤣
Yes, those are definitely important factors easily neglected. Worthy reminder. Thank you for sharing! 😊
Oh, i thought you were suppose to hold your breath while doing lines? I figured snipers hold their breath when aiming a target so it would help with tattoos too? lol
@F1N1SHEDD I struggled so much with this when I started. I thought the exact same thing until I noticed my body or arm would jerk ever so slightly. Even the slightest jerk can mess up a permanent line. Allow that oxygen in, my friend. Lol
@queenwinning most welcome!

@@stevenfronz5957 wish I had followed tip one. Lol I've sleeved myself. I wish I didnt do over half of them so I had room to do the ones I do now
I had to cut back on coffee. Breathing exercises help. Also, I make sure I've eaten to avoid the shakes. Good vid again my guy!
Same I love coffee and energy drinks but I can't have them before practicing.
Oh man! I love coffee as well but anytime I drink it for the next 2-4 hours or so have the jitters and tattooing is challenging when hyped on caffeine. I stay away from coffee now when tattooing. I also eat as well when I am going to do long sessions. This is a very good point and tip for others as well as doing something as simple as eating before a session can make or break a session.

Finding these really useful, I’m a 23 year old musician tryna learn to do tattoos and finding it’s much different to drawing so this stuff is honestly invaluable
I'm a permanent makeup artist wanting to get into tiny tattoos and find line tattoos. I feel like I have a bit of an advantage because I have to be precise on the face but I also know tattoos are different than permanent makeup. I'm constantly learning and practicing. Love all of these videos. ❤️
I appreciate you making these videos. It helps me out a lot as a newbie.
I’ve watched this video so many times and I want to put in practice every single advice G
Very good advice and as always practice, practice, practice ! Thanks for the video 👍
Man you deserve all the best! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!
Thank you very much for your kind feedback and for your support!
I appreciate you.
I’m ready to start tattooing. I’m just looking for places that take apprenticeships near me. I’ve got everything ready. Super excited to get started.
I just got my first tattoo machine. Being a hobbyist tattoo artist is pretty much my entire goal as I'm a graphic designer and into body mods. I've been trying to get used to the machine for a while, even tried tattooing myself and god damn it's hard to do a straight line. I've already got shaky hands and the vibration of the machine makes it ten times more apparent...
Your video is very helpful, thank you so much for this
Your verbal demo is so good bro very needed as well your hands on too
Thank you for that! Your kind feedback and support is greatly appreciated.
Thanks Daniel. You are an amazing teacher! God bless you.
i'm starting to study tattoo now and your videos are the best for see and understand the theoric parts.
Another great content other CZcamsrs will overlook i think, i take the movement of my hand, elbow and shoulder and my stretching finger helping my tattoo finger to further keep it steady very serious when I'm pulling long lines, another great demonstration from the Tattooer of the year🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

Question how does one maintain proper ink flow exactly
Thank you for the kind feedback and support KING!
I appreciate you.
I think proper ink flow depends heavily on the carts we are using, the ink we are using, needle hang, ink storage are some very common variables that come to mind when I think of ink flow. I think this will vary from person to person and I actually have a full in depth video on this subject. Bare with me as I get that video out for you all.
@waiting on the video !
Depth control is on point
Got my tattoo machine today! I’m 15 and i practice on fake skin. Hope my future job will be successful!!
And, Daniel Yuck, i have a question about your tattoo journal. Is it paper? You draw lines with a pen?
Been watching videos about tattoo tutorial, its funny that I can't even afford to purchase a tattoo machine. I guess watching those vids is all i can do. Anyway thankyou for this wonderfull video.
Ole vet who just picked up a tattoo machine. Lovin it cause your the “go to” guy for any questions. #DanielYuck
So, for doing solid lines is a 7RS more forgiving than a 7RL? What is the difference between the two needles. Great video! Thanks!
Phenomenal! Thank you!! I just realized a few of these mistakes last night. Any tips for a lefty please?? I am left handed and I turn my page to write, I don't do how some lefties do, where they keep their paper straight and and curve their hand above the line. Does that make sense? I am struggling with how to position my body with being a lefty
Brilliant information 👍

What do you think should be the best grip on the machine?

You are appreciated.
thanks daniel . also i already followed you on tiktok 😊😁😁
Thank you so much!
I appreciate you and your support!
Thank you for following me on TikTok as well!
thanks soo much
I think it is best to start with a 7-9rl.. and then go up to an 11-14 etc.. and after you have done some with those combinations, start to go to a big 5.. then bugpin 5 and then start to touch the 3rls..
That is a simple and practical way to approach it I feel. Start somewhere in the middle and make ones way around until they have developed a comfortability with tattooing. Thank you for sharing.
What would you practice to keep ur line work consistent like straight lines or following patterns I've put a pen in a coil machine and traced lines out of a tattoo magazine I feel like it helped but mow I have a rotary machine shaped more like a pen
What skin ointment do you use for tattooing?
Hey Daniel :) I have a question regarding tattooing larger people. Do you have any advice for pulling lines smoothly on skin that you need three points of contact to properly stretch? I've noticed that for me at least, if my tattooing hand is lubed up enough to glide over the skin, there's not enough bite to stretch the skin, and if there's enough bite to stretch the skin, there's not enough glide to smoothly pull longer lines.
Have someone else (or the client) help you stretch the skin if they are able. Just last night I had a client just sort of pull the skin of her forearm from the top for me. I didn’t make a big deal of it just said “hey can you help me out? Can you just put your hand here and pull upward for me?Hold it just like this for about 30 seconds (or however long)You’re doing great.” Nothing else needs to be said and calls less attention to them than involving a third person. Not always possible though for the unreachable areas.
Do you have a tip to learn how to match hand speed and voltage better? Aside from practice of course.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge 🙏🏻
@danielyuck please answer this....
I actually have a full video talking about hand speed and voltage! I will link you to this video below.

Hey Daniel another awsome video thank you and keep it up,i just Got one question about the INK flow im not understanding what does affect that could you please comment Here ,much love
Thank you for the feedback and support!
I appreciate you.
When we don’t have good ink flow the needle will still be doing it’s job however there will be no ink deposit. Therefore when we are tattooing the line for example when our ink flow is not flowing our line will come out inconsistent because nothing was being deposited. So we’d be braking the skin open and nothing more. 1 of the many reasons ink flow is essential.
@@DanielYuck thank you 🤟

Looking for some advice on tattooing
I'm in Canada ontario been using ambition soldier and just need some advice on my lone work and shading 😎 anything would be greatly appreciated
what camera you use ?
I always come back to this video, thank you for sharing. #DanielYuck
Im 16 and got a coil gun for christmas and am now trying to learn how to reduce the wobble in my lines i personally think the coil gun is comfy in my hand but the angle is something i have to get used to
Get u a good rotary machine ( Proteus or CNCP6. W/adjustable throw) and use cartridge needles,. IMO the coil machine vibrates a bit much,. Too much,.. it will be more comfortable (rotary/pen style machine),..
You see this is what i mean your badass bro and pretty thorough and straight forward and through time and persistence i will eventually get better. #DanielYuck
What skin do you use?
Hey everyone! I had a question but idk if I would sound stupid... Can I use a used cartridge on fake skin to practice my designs? Is there a way to clean them so ink does not stick on them? I'm just starting the journey. From what I'm seeing, the CNC Police 9RS is strong getting that ink in really good. Nice video for sure!
New needle needed. Never re use a needle that has been used on a person. Used ones need to go into a sharps container.
What size needle ?
Do you turn your volts up when using a bigger needle? And if so what's the range? I have had multiple opinions on this.
I personally stick with a specific voltage depending on whether I'm lining or shading. I like to be around 6.9 volts for lining and about 6.0 for shading but practice and find what works best for you.
You could just keep slow down your hand speed and keep the voltage or vice versa.
That’s a great question!
When I am tattooing with a larger configuration I used to tend to higher up my voltage but now I run at around 6-7 volts for almost all of the tattoos that I do. I have tried lining at 8 with bigger needles, at 7 with larger needles, etc and for me the 7 volt range is healthy depending on my setup for larger needle groupings.
I would much rather adjust my hand speed over changing the voltage. The lower the voltage in theory I will get a bit more time on the skin before I have to move on.
Awesome stuff man keep it up # Danielyuck
I have been learning so much from your videos! Thank you! #DanielYuck
I have a fast hand so when lining I like a 7 or 9rl for a good solid line and a higher voltage to keep up with my faster working speed. I was catching the skin too much at lower voltage.
And I would motion the line above the skin first to feel the flow of the line before I'd actually sink it confidently and stable to actually put it in when I was learning.
I started self taught rougue and my silly ass began with 1rl, and I'm a Perfectionist on 1000 so everything got so much easier after that 😆😫😁
I have had the needle wobble from length but for some reason I see the effect more on actual skin than the rubber simulation skin. It's close to skin but the layers and makeup of real aren't the same.
I learned to tattoo in prison. All single needle. We could pay the electronics guy to solder a few needles together into a magnum but you would have to source a tube other than a bic pen so it was often more of a hassle than it was worth. Point being, the less needles, the easier to see your hesitations/mistakes
Yep... Me too homie
Ive tattooed mgself snd it looks amazing. Im getting really good and some of ur tios has helped
I have tourettes and somethings I focus on can calm down my tourettes. Now, my question for you is. Would tattooing a person and focusing on lining a tattoo be calming or stressful? And is it calming or stressful to you?
let me know the end of this pls im curious
Would you say that practicing depth and hand speed with a 1RL is better considering it seems to be the most difficult to use?
I'd say, practice with every needle. Every movement should be intentional. When you're working with a smaller needle, make sure you cover all your bases (no caffeine, etc), to avoid shaky lines. You can go back and run a 1RL next to your current line (assuming fake skin) and see the improvement.
if you can pull one clean with a 1rl you can pull every size perfect so yeah you can choose a 1 rl
Me personally I wouldn’t practice with a 1rl. Reason being when I do use a 1rl I don’t really feel any resistance or anything like this as a 1rl is considerably smaller over most common needles. If I practiced with say a 11RL or a RS I can see, feel and hear what I am doing, these elements don’t necessarily work the same for a 1RL. The surface area of a 1rl is so tight that it will essentially just rip through anything if we aren’t familiar with depth or hand speed.
I would encourage you to work and practice with a needle that is big enough for you to see the tip as you practice lining. Using a 1rl requires a different approach over lining with other configurations.
@@DanielYuck okay cool, thank you so much for the advice. 👍
@DanielYuck Can I stop while getting out of my comfort zone? If the line is long ?
Oh yea!
If you begin to tattoo outside of your comfort zone I would highly encourage you to taper out and begin the line again by tapering in.
@@DanielYuck thank u sir
Great explanation always is very understandable keep up the videos #DanielYuck
ياريت لو مترجم للعربي
I love big wasp carts. Cheap and effective!
Another reason that can cause shaky lines is not stretching the skin enough
Not align with the foot pedal while leaning on ur knee having while balancing on ur toe
I'm not necessarily having problems with shaking lines but problems with using the stencil papers they never seem to transfer to skin for me any ideas?
A tattoo primer or deodorant..not antiperspirant
''So now you can see how am starting to shake the line''
*Proceed to make a line way better than my actual 'steady' lines*
What voltage do u use?
When it comes to lining I typically will line at around 7-8 volts depending on machine.
I know others have said it but seriously, making sure to have eaten something has been game-changing lol.
😂😂😂😂👌
What size needle is good for lining and filling
Ooooof, that’s a tough question.
I think needle size for anything would be dependent on the design at hand.
the design I am doing always helps me determine the needles that I need.
Yea but like.... How do you stretch the skin while doing any of these two hand techniques?
I will cover more on stretching of skin in depth in another video.
In a nutshell I don’t typically like to stretch the skin out exact. I prefer to hold the skin down to keep it from moving. I find that this results in less irritation of the skin while still being able to input ink correctly.
Bro how do you clean the fake skin so clean
Please help me guys. I was doing really well on fake skin. Perfect lines. But whenever I do tattoos on my friends or clients, all my lines are shaky. Really annoying and frustrating. Why????
Strech the skin
Once agian always helpful #DanielYuck
Quality of the needle is close to the top of the list imo. Also gripping the tattoo machine way to tight
I would agree! There are variances in quality of needle that could potentially impact one’s work. I can also see how gripping a machine would not be beneficial to stability. These are great variables to consider. Thank you for dropping a comment!
Great video but needle hanging out too far shouldn’t be one that list in the beginning. PSA DONT RIDE THE TUBE! Understand you canvas of skin and you win 🥇 once you really get into the details you will find that there is a lot but it’s worth knowing
🙌
Thank you! 🙌
I just started and my lines are really shaky

what fake skin are you using? it looks very good quality
