    Thank you so much for this video showing how to keep up with the maintenance on the hanging pots and containers! I have some maintenance as well as fixing of issues some of my pots and containers are having and this gives me a great guide on what to do. Love your videos - and love seeing the baskets and containers that you planted in precious videos as they grow!

    Question for you, when you say you are fertilizing every other day with the rebounding plants which fertilizer are you using and what's the NPK?

    Thank you so much for this video! Your videos have helped me to be more creative this year. I found some lysmachia and planted with dragon wing begonia. And I also added some of the newer colorful petunias. I don’t have much luck usually with calibrachoa but I tried it again this year. I have red added any fertilizer yet though. I usually use an all purpose similar to the Miracle G stuff. When you mention fertilizer is it all purpose or specific?

    Hi you have beautiful pots, i'm learning so much from you! question: should i add some potting soil to my 12" containers, i find my finger goes farther down when checking for water, thank-you, and should i sprinkle potting soil on top as not to disturb the plants

    • @UpNorthGardenMI
      @UpNorthGardenMI  Před 18 dny +1

      I’ve never added soil after they were planted… I’ve always just planted them into a bigger pot.
      If the soil line is low, I’d gently flip the plants out and add a bit it soil to the bottom of the pot.

  • @WalkingbytheSpiritAlways

    Your plants are doing very well. I have had two of my three Hoopla Orchid petunias die, and one is struggling planted with a dahlia that has lots of green and has stopped blooming. I have been fertilizing with Jack's Bloom and PW alternating. This is my first year growing dahilas in several pots, and I am assuming that they don't like blooming in the southern heat. I have also had several verbenas die I guess because they don't like much water and I planted them with salvias and Sunpatiens. Maybe all this is trying to do mixed containers. Question: Why haven't you taken them outside and what do you hang these heavy hanging baskets on when you don't have a greenhouse. The shepherds hooks I have lean a lot. If you hang them from a tree, they don't get the sun.
    Completely different question. I got three Phenomenal lavender 4 inch pots, and I was trying to decide if I plant together in an 18 inch pot or if they should be separate. It's supposed to be one of the few lavender that likes heat and humidity. Have you grown lavender? Can you put it in a mixed container with lantana or scaveloa for instance? Thanks for your videos.

    • @UpNorthGardenMI
      @UpNorthGardenMI  Před 19 dny

      If I could, I’d keep all my containers outside - but if they’re in the greenhouse, I can keep a better eye on them. We don’t have space to keep them in the public areas… and sometimes containers in the public get a bit of abuse. I’ve moved a few to my house already.
      Hooks and hangers on porches, posts and the sides of houses are great on in sunny spots.
      Lavender is tricky in Northern Michigan, not only does it sometimes struggle with our winters, it’s also easy to overwater, and that’s not good for lavender, so I don’t recommend them for pots to our customers unless they know they can be very careful about moisture.

    • @UpNorthGardenMI
      @UpNorthGardenMI  Před 19 dny

      I plant verbena with petunias, salvia, and calibrachoa all the time. I wonder why yours didn’t make it.

    • @WalkingbytheSpiritAlways
      @WalkingbytheSpiritAlways Před 19 dny

      @UpNorthGardenMI I almost always have problems with calibrachoa suddenly dying in mixed containers. I really try not to water them when I am watering the salvias and petunias. Several varieties of salvias (Wendy's Wish, Black and Bloom, Mirage, Texas Pink (survives Georgia winters), Grandstand Strawberry, Hummingbird Falls and Wild Thing) need a lot of water, but the hummingbirds prefer them and rarely go to other "hummingbird plants." What was the blue salvia you showed? Blue suede shoes? I have the Rockin Purple and Unplugged pink this year, and so far, they are not needing much water as compared to the other ones.
      Great advice about watching out for pests, and I have already had to start spraying for white flies and something that makes the verbenas leaves get yellow/silvery dots. I am using Bio Advanced 3-1 and Bonide systemic granules for the first time this year. Aphids are attacking the guards too.
      I also wanted to thank you for showing clipping the angelonia because I wasn't sure when to dead head. Some of my angelonias are crowded out by petunias and some are green but not a lot of flowers. I also think after watching your video that I am going to pull out the surviving Hoopla and put it in a separate pot. Thanks for your ideas.

    Excellent advice as always, so helpful. I have only been fertilizing my containers once a week, with a bloom booster. Is that enough or do I need to increase that? I really want the performance you get, but afraid to over do it and it gets very expensive.

    Basic question as I am learning 😊😊 what is the difference in a Petunia and a calibrachoa? I've saved a lot of baskets from the "dead flower department" at my local big box store 😂

    • @UpNorthGardenMI
      @UpNorthGardenMI  Před 19 dny +1

      Although calibrachoa look like little petunias, they are different. Pretty much all calibrachoa are self-cleaning, some petunias are not (the varieties I grow are self-cleaning). Calibrachoa don’t like extra wet soil, so keep them lightly moist to a little bit dry between waterings. Calibrachoa are sensitive to soil pH, so they often don’t do well when planted in the ground, so they are best in containers. Both like regular fertilizing.
