Bomb Proof Clutch Linkage

  • How to build a high quality, low friction rod end clutch linkage at home. This is a big step up from using the readily available kits that are out there too (beware of some of those!). The differences between off-shore rod ends and high quality, Made-In-The-USA rod ends is explained too. It's not that difficult to build and its the right fix for common "ovalled" holes in z-bars and clutch pedals. Check it out!

    Holy smokes why didn't I think of this! A brilliant solution! I'll bet you can use these rod-ends on so many other things like throttle linkages etc. I'm literally knee-deep in 1968 442 parts in the garage, hot and heavy with a resto project. I just got a replacement z-bar kit and I'm absolutely going to fab my own clutch rod and fork rod with your idea here. The problem I'd hit with your swedge tube is that the Old's pushrod is bent 6 ways till Sunday to pass through the firewall to the z-bar and I'm not inclined to cut a wider hole to facilitate the straight throw. I happen to have the old pushrod still so I'll just zing off the OEM ends and weld these in place. ***UPDATE: it looks like Aurora makes female rod-ends with left/right threads now which makes this even easier.

    Outstanding video, on 65-66 Mustangs the pedal to Z-bar rod has a bend. Do you know of a way to compensate for this bend in the bar?

    Had the linkage go out on my semi interested in fabricating my own linkage assembly want to use what I see here just wondering about articulation of the heim joints and wondering about vibration as the joints I had used rubber wonder if some poly rod ends might be better .

    • @lonewolfhotrods
      @lonewolfhotrods  Před 2 lety +1

      A rod-end linkage will be noisier, but I don't think in your case it will matter much. If you check out the video, I use Teflon lined aircraft jobs, but you might want to consider the less costly jobs Aurora Bearing sells with zerk fittings so that you can grease them. FYI, the amount of articulation depends upon the rod end. You can get high misalignment rod ends that could work for you too...Interesting application! Thanks for asking.
