JOHNNY THUNDERS & the Cosa Nostra on Paul Tschinkel's Inner-Tube

  • Seen is Johnny Thunders in an iteration band called the Cosa Nostra. With Luigi at this side, they played through a set that was both entertaining and exciting, with minor marring technical difficulties for sure. A perennial favorite of Inner-Tube, Johnny here, performs as the consummate anti-hero of the New York Punk music scene. The Sopranos would be proud. Unfortunately he died prematurely - or maybe not. This is for all you Johnny junkies out there. Peace to you all. PT

I think the genius with this guy was the fact that he was so spontaneous. He could play but didn't really care. Going to one of his shows wasn't so much seeing a good show but rather to find out what was going to happen. Pure Rock and Roll.

I saw the dolls a couple of times in the early seventies, right after their first album was released. They were a great live act, so much better than the records. Many bands are, however. I saw them at a large club in Atlanta called Richard's and then in much bigger venue. They were the opening act for a three band show featuring the Dolls, Aerosmith and headliners Mott The Hoople.

He isn't sad, he's high. Drugs isn't all bad, you do it for fun, and if you can handle it, you can be in a r&r band, or have a day job, or anything else. And if you use methadone, that takes away the withdrawals from heroin use, so you can use if you like and don't feel the consequences, and live a pretty 'normal' life. From 1984 on he was in much better shape because of it. But it's all the other things around it, not eating and sleeping because of too much coke, taking a lot of pills, etc.
