ART/new york, a video series on contemporary art, was begun in 1979 by Paul Tschinkel, founder and executive producer. This unique and extensive series focuses on the visual arts and brings art, artists and exhibitions to a broad public interested in the major developments on the New York art scene. Over the last 30 years, ART/new york has covered major exhibitions and artists who have defined and shaped the diverse and exciting directions in contemporary art. Each program features visits to galleries, museums, artist's studios and includes revealing interviews with artists as well as the perspective views of critics, curators and dealers.
PAUL TSCHINKEL's INNER-TUBE was a NYC Cable program that also featured music from NYC clubs like CBGBs, Max's Kansas City, The Mudd Club and more. It predated and was imitated by MTV. Seen on this weekly program, which ran from 1979 to 1984, were emerging bands that defined and celebrated a generation of music makers and music lovers.

John Chamberlain came to New York in the late 50’s, a time when the art world was abuzz with energy and excitement. It was a time of larger than life luminaries such as Pollock, deKooning, Kline, Guston and others. It was in this climate that he started making sculpture for which he is best known today. Rooted in the ideas, process and spontaneity of Abstract Expressionism, his work is wrested and constructed from discarded metal car parts found in the automobile grave yards of America. His work blossomed into unique and brilliantly colored forms and has made him one of the foremost, original American sculptors. Today, his work is in all the major collections and museums.

Why are people saying the narrator and the interviewer didn't understand without explaining what he didn't understand?
Bro self edited quick af 😂 he wasn’t getting canceled BACK THEN 😂
trying to belittle someone who is on a higher level of thinking… jokes on you sir
Who locked him in basement and forced him to paint
I just got done watching his movie, I’ll be honest…. He was a free thinker… but lazy.
A ghay painter that's who he wants to be hahahahahahhahahahah
The answers to those questions are way too complex and abstract in his mind for him to quickly answer, that’s my guess.
You can tell he has addict mannerisms. It’s so crazy how they use this man, but he was a genius at what he did.
HE'S HIGH ON SOMETHING
I first saw The Mad at a little known spot in the 1980s called Club X. It was in the Tribeca neighborhood and was a luncheonette by day. At night some groups booked the place and played there to a small audience. It was very special to be so close to the band.
Terrible interviewer, basquiat just wanted to be heard
💙
For the commenters saying Jean Michel Basquiat wasn't saying anything maybe y'all should watch the full documentary on him. The reporter who did this interview imo was a racist and didn't see Jean Michel's art as something to be admired. Just watch the documentary and it's clear as day that the interviewer didn't care for anything about Jean Michel. Jean Michel Basquiat was a beautiful soul. SAMO
Overrated and a victim of white hype and exploitation.
Jay Z talks like him too 😂
“I grew up with frustration” “So is there any frustration in your art? 👱🏻♂️🎤” One of the worst interviewers of all time. (I’ve seen other parts, he’s awful.)
Trapoed in the closet the closed😅
Wow. This is bad…
Part of the excitement was the sense of danger. If you're close to the stage and you catch his eye and he doesn't like what he sees -or he likes your girlfriend a little too much- he just might launch himself off the stage, and try to punch you in the face never breaking rhythm of the song. He was a little twerp, willing to sacrifice himself at every show. How we loved him. And love him still. Artist.
What an exhibition! Great.
Only learned just recently that Walter played - uncredited - many of the guitar solos on the Ramones albums. That says a lot about the man.

Kid cudi gotta play him
He’s far from angry . Why are black people always portrayed and painted as angry? we have way more emotions than that, a myriad of them that most people can’t even comprehend or understand. We’re not simple we are not complicated, we are intricate and that’s just what he was/still is to this day… a true artist with intricate feelings and intelligence that shone through his art work.
hot stuff
That's right honey that is the truth. He is or was a very talented painter, Artist a genius 💖🥰🙏🥰💖
Amazing. Thank you for posting.
I love his creation's he is a or was a fabulously talented individual. I love everything he paint's💖💖💖
He died when he was 27. He has the highest selling painting in US HISTORY. $110 MILLION. Troubled past.
😍
Could they of at least had another creative person interview him, geez.
Never heard of him seems miserable, poor guy
This is still a Caucasian
I didn't understand the last sentence . He was called "eccentric ". I remember seeing a movie about him. For some reason, he reminds me of the old Michael Jackson there. He was handsome.
🖤💎⚜️ Respect the classics.
DUDE GOT SOME SECRETS,YOU CAN SEE AND HEAR IT 😳 👀 THE NERVOUS RESPONSE TO THE QUESTIONS 😮HE HAS SEEN SOME THINGS NO PERSON IS SUPPOSED TO SEE😢
this interviewer compared him to an ape
i would love to hear this dude have a convo w hendrix
This is just ridiculous, and sad to me !! Why ? Why? Why ? I really don’t freakin understand or get this shit !!
He was extremely handsome sad how his life was
What does he mean a long time ago…he was still a kid when he recorded this😊
What Jay z could never...
The ex wife accused Jeff Coons of child abuse with their son. Is it any wonder why she ran away with their son. The fact that Anderson is defending Coons makes me wonder what shady things is Anderson into especially since Anderson has a son himself.
Did y'all recon the jello is made of horse hooves?
