Gday everyone. If you are keen to buy the Chigee, make sure you use my code ONTHEBACKWHEEL to get 20% off @ www.chigee.com/ONTHEBACKWHEEL. Thanks for watching, keen to test it out some more.
Good job, again. It's is always good to see honesty and fairness in a review - and you provide great context (why I got it, what I'm trying to do, etc)....looking forward to seeing more fangin' thru the scrub with your mates....and to see how this unit holds up. 👍
Cheers mate. Yep keen to see how it holds up. Seems rock solid build quality wise
Looking forward to the full review Curtis. Like you, I have cooked a phone by having it in my tank bag pocket in the sun, and baked it! This could be a phone saver!
Cooked phone, I'll keep that in mind!
Wow, had never heard or seen of this particular product before and it looks to be exactly what I was looking for. The only one that was on my radar is the Carpuride unit. Really looking forward to all your content and long term testing on this one!
The quality is certainly there. I might check out the capuride too, will look into it
nothing to compare I mean quality wise between the Chigee and the Carpuride. the moment you have your hand the AiO-5 ( whether it is the lite version or the Play version, same construction) you will see and feel the difference.
Blends in well with the V-Strom TFT🤙
Will be following your honest review crazy man Curtis!
Get on the case with Barkbusters! I can’t believe they haven’t created something!
Oh they've got something, I've just got to buy it...
@@onthebackwheel get them to send you some
@@stevesanelli90 I tried and they have no interest it seems. All good I'll get some eventually!
Love your reviews. I am definitely looking at this just for Gaia maps and video recording. The way I look at it I can get a tablet and a dash cam separately. Any further living with for the this vids?
Thanks mate. It's a good unit, the only things I wish it had was volume control and its own GPS. Build quality is good. There are some other brands popping up for cheaper, could be worth a look, not sure if their quality though. These do go on a good sale
Does it plug in to a Keihin carby? If my tyre pressures get low can I download some air for free or is that extra? I have more questions but I need to sleep. Keep up the great work mate, your channel is great and it will grow.
Mate maybe not the carby, but try the powerband 😂
You can get an app for the air. It adjusts pressure via Bluetooth to your tires. 😂
LOL I just bought a quad-lock compatible to mount the phone. I was thinking of buying a dedicated GPS. I'll keep this in mind
This still needs the phone, I think I'll still run the quad lock with it while testing
Better off with stand alone GPS
Good video, for bikes with TPMS can you hide the monitoring from the main screen?
I don't believe so. I run the phone up 99% of the time and just check that on start up really
That actually looks like the tft dash on an Africa Twin. Same app screen and the android interface looks the same. You also need to turn the bluetooth volume up on your phone on the Africa Twin or it will be too low, even though there is a volume button on the Twin. Unit looks good. Interested to see how bright it is in direct sunlight.
Was able to test it today on the way to work and it's definitely bright. Still want to test it in the bush with going in and out of shadows etc
@@onthebackwheel Olá, bom dia, espero que o teste em um ambiente sem sinal de celular pra ver se o gps funciona, ok, abraços...com certeza será minha próxima aquisição, pois estou arruinando meu celular....
Great video.....I currently use a 7" galaxy tablet with OSMAND and Gaia and google maps...not as good as I would like, but osmand works best off road. Looking for the unit you tested, for hooking up the unit to bike port for speed, temp. rpm etc. Will look for your update on further testing. Garth
Cheers Garth. Tablet and osmand seems like one of the go to combo's
Nice video. Did you buy it yourself or was it provided to you/ sponsored?
They supplied it. They said to give honest impressions, very brave of them 😂
Cool! Loving your channel!👍👍
Can you disable the tmps on the front screen so it doesnt show.. the bmw already has tmps on the factory dash.
I don't believe disable entirely, it would just show 0 for each one. Not an issue though if it is enabled, I always have it on the phone screen anyway with maps/music etc
Seems like a cool option, but for the price, I'll stick to a cheap, rugged smartphone or tablet.
Looking forward to more Vstrom videos, considering one myself.
It's a good bike mate, really enjoying it
Does it do a vertical installation? For offroad navigation verical would be better.
I've had a look and can't find anything that's days you can
Very nice!
Yeah, phones are too expensive and fragile to be bouncing around on the handlebars.
Too true mate, my last screen replacement was $500!
@@onthebackwheel 😱 Wowzers! Yep, I’d rather sacrifice a dedicated GPS.
I noticed you mounted your windscreen upside down. Did you notice any difference by doing so?
Nothing noticeable. Thought it might make a difference too but seems much the same commuting, haven't done any highway work though
Does the phone screen need to stay on for this unit to operate?
No it doesn't
They seem to be sending these out to anyone with a biking channel.
You're not wrong, I had a look before I posted and there are tons. They all seem to be the Lite though
I'm going to try an 8" rugged tablet, completely independent of my phone. I don't need or want the distraction of Android Auto and just want on and off road maps.
I like that as an option, a good way to go. The issue here is it still uses the phone. Great but it'll drain the battery and still need to be on the dash charging
Interesting, but what worries me is that carplay/android auto drains your phones battery and when in your pocket you cannot charge it.😅
Yep, so you've got to have it on the dash anyway
Does it need its own sim card & account ?
No, it needs a phone to connect to though (if you want to use the Android auto and GPS capabilities)
Can you use osmand maps on this ?
Any app on your phone that has car play or Android auto support should work. Can't see why it wouldn't
Osmand is Android auto compatible at least
@@ro61n50 yeah I use it on my I phone for tet trails but if it works on this I’ll be interested.
Could you put a link for it in the description? Any discount codes?
Just waiting on discount codes, this one is out next month which makes it tricky
@@onthebackwheel no worries, I'm sure you're thinking of a follow up vid
@@robhayes8295 yeah for sure. I'll do more of a review in the future with long term thoughts etc
@@onthebackwheel Thanks mate!
Wow $1000 aud is really worth the price tag.
Hoping it's a bit cheaper for this model vs the Lite
@onthebackwheel have you been able use since your last upload? Is it a good addition for you and your setup?
@@KDSADV650 I've been using it daily for commuting. It's way better to use than a phone and I much prefer it. The screen is great and super easy to use even with gloves. I still think it definitely needs its own GPS app that stands alone from the phone. I've still got a fair bit more testing to do
Why run Android Auto or Apple CarPlay on a powered device which will drain the battery on your phone when you can run GPS apps on the device itself? I much prefer using a cheap waterproof phone, which also costs much less.
Yep that's my biggest issue ATM
A relatively cheap rugged phone is the way... I think. It's a spare phone for emergency, it can run any app you like, and it's probably cheaper than the chigee
Something a little off putting of these companies sending out to so many CZcamsrs. That said, I suppose it's the only way to get a good look at them other than buying one. I really like the idea but they need to sort out mounting system so you can use it on multiple bikes.
Their website says they are working on it "Note: We regret to inform you that, based on our latest development progress, we are unable to incorporate a detachable base for the AIO-5 Play. Consequently, the product still cannot be quickly detached from your bike. However, we are in the process of crafting a more robust device that will feature a removable base, enabling effortless interchangeability between multiple bikes. Please stay tuned for our upcoming release of this feature-packed new product."
You know I don't see that as an issue. I have other issues with it, but not that, I get it though. I got a fair few emails these days with crappy products, this one actually looked half decent and they said say what you want and had no requirements. We'll see over time
@@onthebackwheel It does look decent and it should be good for the price, it is certainly not a cheap product.
That windshield seems to be reinstalled flipped 😂
Woops 😂
@@onthebackwheel that actually seems like a great hack, might improve wind protection 🤷🏻♂️
