- Silent hill Downpour turned 10 years old this year, It was a game that I have come back to time and time again, and each time it becomes more charming.
I have been wanting to talk about this game for a while and I finally feel like it is time to get this off my chest, I LOVE DOWNPOUR!

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who loved downpour
I'm a 1 2 and 3 head but I have never hated Downpour. Murphy's story hits different. You aren't playing a generic revenge tale you are playing the aftermath and trying to put the shattered pieces back together for a broken man. A man who feels like a victim of circumstance. He just ends up there by no choice of his own having to face his trauma and face the trauma he's caused others. He has to look the pain he caused in his own pain in the face. SH Downpour is a superior cycle of revenge tale to Last of Us 2.
He isn't an innocent person, nor a victim of circumstance. He killed Patrick Napier to get revenge for Napier's murder of his son, and good on him for that. He made a CHOICE, (twice, we later learn) and fucked up even worse the second time, and that's why he is where he is. He isn't blameless, and since he's White he can't play the "perpetual victim" card.
Bad circumstances? Yes. Victim of circumstance? Not even close.
So happy to see someone else enjoying this game. This has always been one of my favorite Silent Hill games and it’s so unfairly underrated. I’m glad to see people are finally warming up to it a decade later. Im also seeing several people claiming that it plays practically flawlessly on current generation consoles. The glitches and bugs are nonexistent.
I loved this game, I also loved the radio songs. It actually felt like old radios I use to listen to at the cabin.
Anyone who liked Downpour should check out The Evil Within 2. I wouldn't be surprised had the devs taken inspiration from Downpour, especially in its open world design, side content and old Americana aesthetic.

Damn this has me wanting to check the game out. This also got me understand and appreciate the creature designs in the game a lot more. Also, was not expecting the “Deja Vu” instrumental to show up!

Downpour was my intro into the series. I actually love the game. Glad to see someone appreciating it for the good game it really is.
what other silent hill games did you play?
@@RowBlanka first 4 games. 3 and 4 ended up being my favorites. I even imported a copy of 3 from japan.

we do need more horror games that just have fun... and also use American dream aesthetic there's a lot of potential there (I know cause I made way too much fan concept art abt that)
This is why I'm anticipating the Resident Evil 4 remake. I'm hoping it's just as goofy and over-the-top as the original.
I was so excited for this game. I just had a feeling this game was going to be something amazing...and for me SH Downpour was everything I could've asked for. I absolutely love this game and its my all time favorite Silent Hill!

Probably if these guys have got a chance to continue the series then probably theyve get more creative, non the less that was the last chance silent hill had and fans failed it now the best we'll get is remakes.

Silent Hill Downpour is actually one of the very few Silent Hill games I've played. I think the other one I've played is either Homecoming or Origins I can't quite recall. But I really enjoyed Downpour as a relative new comer to the series. The story was intriguing, the locals were begging to be explored it was just compelling to me. The gameplay was a little meh and yeah it's goofy but a good time nonetheless

I dig some of the monster designs in this game like a shallow grave. Stuff like the Bogeyman which represent a a simple, direct evil, or that creepy wheelchair thing showing Murphy how the guard lived after he was attacked as a way to represent his guilt for what his pursuit of revenge caused for another person. They’re neat. Although, I do wish the regular enemies looked a little more warped, like they’re actually from a freaky nightmare world. Just exaggerating some of their features while keeping them humanoid would make them a lot creepier, I think.
Also, being the weatherperson in Silent Hill must be the easiest job in the world. You just say there’s a 100% chance of fog.
This is the 2nd game this studio have made, they were inspired by body horror like pin head from hell raiser which isnt the best choice for a video game as the details in movies are in control of director and in game the player have the control.

I only turned 30 this year, but when the first 2 came out I grew up with them with my dad, probably far too young to play them but I did, when I got my hands on downpour in 2012 it gave me a lot of feels that anything after the first 3 just failed to do, I never understood why this game had any hate towards it. it’s not perfect but it sure is great.
Honestly my favorite silent hill game 😂 idk wtf that other CZcamsr was saying about this game but this game was absolutely wonderful for me
I certainly enjoyed the aspect of exploring the town with a lot more freedom than the other games
Some of the side quests were pretty good, the spookiest one of course being the house with the crying woman
But overall I found the controls to be pretty janky, I encountered a fair few bugs while playing, I was never super invested in the story, and the most disappointing part was that none of the enemies were particularly creative or scary
Plus I was not a fan of how all of the other world segments were just some kind of weird chase scene
Not a bad survival horror game, but definitely not what I really wanted from a silent hill game
I know people hate on it, but I far preferred Silent Hill homecoming as far as these Western developed games go
I think if downpour was another game in tje suffering series it would've been looked at more fondly tbh or maybe if it said it was silent hill inspired but that's just wishful thinking. Also yeah I like homecoming alot more. Mainly for it's creature design which I really liked

Although the rain was a neat take. More monsters coming out in the storm etc.
But yeah something like creature design is such a staple of SH and downpour just had stuff that looked like basic zombies and uninspired monsters
Homecoming maybe tried too hard to bank on nostalgia but it had some great original monster designs, especially bosses

My very first game I played and beat all on my own was Silent Hill 2. Pyramid Head scared the f outta me, but I was proud as heck I beat this scary af game. Downpour was decent, but the hospital and nurses were always the best part of Silent Hill, even the laughable burping giants 😂, so I was disappointed there was no hospital. It was cool that it was so open world and we got to explore, but it was also hard to know where to go, I like a linear game, I want to follow a path, I'm too easily confused lol. What I hate most, this game was made with 3d options, I bought it not knowing that. My bro I lived with had a 3d tv, but he broke it so I never got to try the 3d and they don't make 3d tvs these days. Man, I wish I had played this in 3d!!
Oh, and I loved the Silent Hill 4 shout out. It wasn't popular, but I liked that game. The water prison was really cool.

While I don't agree with everything in this video, you made some of the strongest points I've ever heard about this game. It's nice to hear someone try and find the positive sides of a strongly criticized game once in a while, and you did a fantastic job!

I actually never finished this one. I gotta go back and stream it sometime. Homecoming I played religiously, so many times I got every achievement and ending.

The dumbest argument I see people use to criticise this game is "the monsters are too humanoid" when pretty much every game has plenty of humanoid enemies
The designs are def uninspired but I feel like too humanoid is a bad way to say it.

Great vid and I'm not gonna pretend like this game doesn't do anything right and your vid definitely made me appreciate the game a bit more as its own thing. But I just still strongly dislike this game as a Silent Hill game because it just doesn't look, feel or sound like an SH game. It just feels like some spooky horror game that's inspired by the old SH games. The fact that this game was made in the Unreal 3 engine is one of the worst parts for me. It just looks like a combination of the Batman Arkham game and something like Mafia 2 (especially with how you move and the camera placement and FOV), and like a lot of other games during that era.
I also still don't like the story, side stories and cutscenes and I don't agree with you on that as well. Silent Hill always used to be subtle and not straightforward, that's why people are still talking about them to this day. But this game, it's all SO on the nose and in your face. You not knowing everything was the reason you were hooked, and not 100% knowing the character you were playing was part of the mystery. Someone like James and his complex story is a 100 times more interesting than some dude who comically killed some fat dude in a prison (how many stabs can someone take? lol).
I don't agree that the town looks best here as well, sure it's bigger and there is more to explore, but SH2 and 3 still did it better imo when it came to atmosphere. When I see those old games, they still look almost photorealistic to me, even though they have outdated graphics. But there is just something with the lighting, texture work and effects like film grain that make it feel more real. And what I HATE the most is the music in Downpour and is the reason it will never feel like an SH game. There isn't SH without Akira Yamaoka! O and the enemy designs in this game (something SH games are also known for) are just hilarious, awful and don't even come close to being scary.
For me, the SH games died after 4, after team silent stopped making them and some American studio made them instead. Homecoming was the first nail in the coffin, but still kinda felt like an SH game with its great music and for the time great graphics, but DP, nah. But, it's still a better horror game compared to come out these days, and I am begging for SH to return. The first 3 games and especially 2 are masterpieces and if Resident Evil can come back, SH should be able to as well. :)
I crave for the day SH come back! It hurts me that 4 was the last SH that felt like it belonged.

@@SamanthaSaunderz Haha, I can definitely see why you would love it, and this vid definitely helped with that (if only we knew that this was the last SH game). And 4 being the last 'true' SH game (even though original it wasn't even supposed to be an SH game) is indeed extremely hurting. As popular as these games are, in some way, they are extremely underrated to me and so many younger people now aren't even that aware of these games. I still listen to the soundtracks from 2 and 3 and SH 2 still has my fav aesthetic, atmosphere in a game ever. That game and Shadow of the Colossus, and I've never seen a game come close to those styles. Konami did this franchise and MGS dirty, and I hope well see a return of these games some day.
