I met Manute years ago when the then called Bullets practiced at Ft. Meade. While other so-called stars were ignoring the fans, Manute spoke to everyone in the building. He did it with a warm smile too. This guy was too true to believe. I'll never forget that about him. He was real people. R.I.P.
Manute Bol and Gheorge Muresan were two of the nicest basketball players I ever met growing up. I didn't even come up to their waist and I was a pretty tall kid.
@ShadowAngel "After retiring in 1995, Bol campaigned for peace in war-torn Sudan, where he maintained a part-time home and funded the construction of new schools." ---www.britannica.com/biography/Manute-Bol
They were probably referring to him stepping outside of his role, which was to be a big body down near the basket and he only shot 21% from three in his career. Seeing someone take 6 threes that wouldn’t usually shoot them would get that reaction out of me at least
I was actually at this game at America West Arena. This was one of the most entertaining Suns games I ever went to. The reaction of the Suns and Charles Barkley in particular was priceless!
Back in ‘96, I was a ball boy for the Oklahoma City Cavalry and Manute played for the Florida beachdogs. In pre game warmups, he hit at least 20 in a row from the same spot not hitting the rim. It was the most automatic shooting I have ever seen. After that he went to the other wing and hit around 15, same thing, just pure swishes. One of the nicest people I had ever met.
Look how the the defender was the first couple times he shot just imagine if Dirk Nowitzki Kristaps Porzingis or Lauri Markannen played back then they would devastate these guys with their shooting this feels like watching the proto stretch big
Slow it down and you will see that he actually didnt travel. Doesn't matter either way though, just thought it was interesting that the refs thought it was a travel because it looked funny.
In _one half_? Damn, that is Curry-like. The 6 for 10 stat, not the form of his shot. If anything, it looks like his version of a free throw. If he was shrunk down to a normal human height of around 6 feet and the court was shrunk to match the proportion that Manute Bol was shrunk down to but the ball and rim stayed the same size, that is where a regulation free throw would be. That is why he doesn't need to jump shoot it. If he did jump shoot it, it would probably sail like 3 feet above the backboard every time. Also, it doesn't seem like any of the Sixer wing players can even reach his hand _while jumping_ on some of those shots. It is a pretty comical sight. In today's game, it would be like if DeAndre Jordan or Hassan Whiteside suddenly decided to jack up 10 threes in just 2 quarters. Even today, they'd get benched unless the coach asked them to do it.
Is the late great Manute Bol in the Basketball Hall of Fame? He was a great shot blocker at 7'7. Chuck just smiled at him and the rest of the Phoenix Suns were like "What?! This 7'7 guy can shoot threes?" But glad players from the Sudan are keeping Sudanese basketball alive. Like former All-Star Luol Deng. He's a 6'8 Forward who is known for his perimeter defense. Played his college ball at Duke and internationally for England in the Olympics.
No, far from in the Hall of Fame. He was just an anomoly that was fun to watch. He was a very solid player but far from an All Star and surely not a Hall of Famer. A starter at best.
He is where the popular term "my bad" comes from. His english was broken so during practice he would say "my bad" instead of "sorry, my fault". Charles Barkley and others in the team started saying it jokingly and it stuck.

@ShadowAngel You got any proof for this?
How old are you then?
Imagine someone saying “3 for 6 is enough” in today’s league.
A player who makes 50% on 6 threes a game should definitely take more.
It’s weird how much they hated threes back then
They were probably referring to him stepping outside of his role, which was to be a big body down near the basket and he only shot 21% from three in his career. Seeing someone take 6 threes that wouldn’t usually shoot them would get that reaction out of me at least

That's ridiculous. Nobody can guard him in a 3 pointer. If he became a Curry-like 3 point expert, he would literally be unbeatable.
