I remember when facetime came out. Didn't have an iPhone, but i had an iPod and ipad back in 2011 or 12. To this day, I have never used it because Skype and oovoo were out at the time. I don't even know how it works 😂

Apple has plans to create americas first super app. Where it has FaceTime, iMessage, apple wallet, and Siri available even for android users they will just have to pay a small fee. They are just waiting to reveal with updated Siri and AI plans this summer.

So in the US we never needed to download other apps to text over Wi-Fi, we could just send as many SMS as we want. So iMessage became popular since it was the default messaging app. Of course at this point it’s one of the few things that Apple has a hold on sadly

The Android devs at Apple definitely know what they are doing. So an FaceTime app probably doesn’t exist so that Apple can make the experience worse on Android. I’m very confident that at some meeting someone said „make it an app“ and the higher up said „no! than nobody would buy an iPhone for FaceTime anymore“

True, when 3G was released, some operators already supported video calls. It just wasn't mainstream yet. The price was very expensive back then.
