i`ve owned a 1990 4 litre sovereign and a 1992 4 litre sovereign and both were a joy to own, drive and work on. if their serviced properly and regularly, the engines are pretty much bullet proof. The only thing i recommend on these, is if you`ve never changed it whilst you`ve owned the car, keep a spare CPS (crank position sensor) in the glove box, when these pack up, you get little or no warning at all and the engine will not run at all :)
I've had two XJ40s 1988 3.6 and a 1993 4.0, both were Sovereigns I miss them dearly.
