  • Allow me to introduce you all to Judith, My 1994 Jaguar XJ40 4.0 Sovereign that I paid the princely sum of £600. Did I buy myself a bargain of a big cat or just a mongrel? All will be revealed
This video was filmed & edited as lockdown was easing & was due for upload after lockdown but after sitting on this for a wee while now, I couldn't wait any longer as I really want to get making car content again

11 years ago my wife bought a 1992 Sovereign in Dark Lagoon with an immaculate black leather interior for £200. She had full service history, full set of bottle green over-rugs with the original dealer's name embroidered into them and a full , unused toolkit in the boot. We had to drive 47 miles to collect her. Apart from servicing that I do and a new headlining which I did she's not needed any work. We still have her and we still drive her. We love her and would never part with her.

I just bought a 1989 XJ40 last week for $600 with a few boxes of spares in the trunk. After paying cash for the car in Long Island NY, I got in the car and drove it directly back to NE Ohio (a distance of about 410 miles) with no issues. The car has some rust bit it drives very well for a 30+ year old car.

The XJ40 does handle incredibly well, even in the more luxury spec versions. That's why they were so popular with the police as traffic and especially motorway cars. In manual form, which a lot of the police cars were, they were also very fast...

Hi I have been rewatching all your Judith The Jag video's yet again for the umpteenth time. When are we going to have an update on Judith?
When I first saw your video's and the the video by I Drive A Classic when she fell in love with an xj40, I decided to get one for myself as always been a fan on the XJ series having driven one when was in my late teens for my local undertaker. So I then purchased one from North Wales that had been off the road for 14years in dry storage, it has taken me a year to get it back to up and running and when I took it for it's MOT it flew through with no advisories even thanked me for bringing it in has he hadn't seen one this good for such a long time. To say I was pleased was an under statement. Thanks for your video's my wife now knows who to blame.

Love it! Years ago I bought a 93 3.2S, not as well specced as Judith, but I was young enough for it to be unusual, 2 years of thoroughly enjoyable motoring, maroon, light tan leather red carpets (and 25 mpg) great car. I want another even more now 😊

The later cars are INCREDIBLY well built, I had a 1994 4.0 Sovereign that had 237,000 miles on the clock, it was rough around the edges but solid

So inspiring, I have one that was passed down to me by my late husband. It's not been driven for a while but I dare not get rid of it. It was his love and joy. I would like to put it back on the road but been a bit scared to do so. Worried about the fuel costs. It also needs headlamp fixing and I don't know where to find one if you know of any JAG breaker's yard please let me know I will be very grateful.

I have owned my first XJ6 for 3 days now. And It still has not sunk in. I just today Registered and Plated it today. I have been driving it with previous owners tag for 2 prior days. But today she is officially Mine. I have wanted one since I was a Youngster teen of 14 years old in the 80's . I fell in Love with them. I seen it on The Equalizser TV Show when I was a Kid . And White Snake Video as well. But in my early 20's in the early 90's I test drove an 84 XJ6 in BR GREEN. And absolutly fell in Love. I didn't buy that one as I was married with a baby on the way and couldn't have afforded the repairs. I could have had it for 4200 in 1993. See my instagram for a couple pictures of it.

LPG-tip: change the sparkplugs to the equivalent IRIDIUM version! Same heatrange. Just the iridium version. They are pricey but worth it.
Running LPG needs top quality spark because an LPG/air mixture is harder to ignite then petrol/air mixture. And iridium is a hard wearing metal with high conductivity. So if you install t h eem using proper electrode gaps they will perform really good for a looooooong time. Because they wear much slower.
    Nice car!

What an absolute bargain! The later 91 yr onwards Xj40s -after Ford took control are far far better built than the earlier models. Definitely worth giving it some more tlc. 👍👍 Any more updates on Annie the Alpine?

Mmm, in Italy it is impossible to find it at this prices, perhaps around 2500 euros if the car has traveled many kilometers. I found a 1988 XJ40 3.6 Sovereign manual gearbox in very good condition, traveled 120,000 kilometers, beautiful and preserved always been in the garage price 4500 euros. I am thinking of buying it, since in Italy it is a car that no longer pays property tax. I like the classic XJs, a little less like today's ones.. I currently own a single carburettor Rover P6 2000 MK1.

Buy it, the 3.6 with manual box is my personal favourite. Much more of a racier engine than the 4.0

There's me thinking I got a bargain when I bought a petrol/lpg Daimler XJ40 for 1k. Then there's you buying pretty much the same car but for 400 less and even the headlining is properly in place! Please don't tell me it has an Andy bracket too :D

    • @GreyTheFloydianSergal
      @GreyTheFloydianSergal  Před 2 lety

Depends on why it won't start, if it's just a dead battery or starter it should be worth a go. Anything more deep set than that then I would advise caution. I'm still not an absolute authority on these cars so I'd suggest joining the jaguar XJ40 enthusiasts group on Facebook. They've been really helpful with me
