  • I purchased a used Echo SRM-210 Weed Trimmer off my local classified ads. The previous owner had no recollection if the trimmer worked. I decided to do a complete rebuild and restoration of the weedeater. In this video I broke down the trimmer to the engine. I cleaned every part of the Echo SRM-210 and even rebuilt the original Zama carburetor with OEM kit. The kit included gaskets and diaphragms.
    I used a cleaner/degreaser made by Super Clean (not a sponsor), which I've seen used around the lawn care community to clean their equipment. The cleaner worked extremely well and had phenomenal results of cleaning up this dirty, dusty and greasy trimmer. To see the product I used, click the link below.

    Stay tuned for my follow up video of reassembling this Echo SRM-210 trimmer.

      Haha! Thanks Rolly. I’m sure the AR-15 is much more enjoyable. But there’s just something about getting a piece of equipment running again!

    I was really looking forward to seeing it being put back together and seeing the end result. My mind was spinning knowing if/when i do this to a SRM210 I just bought, that once I get half way broken down I’ll forget how to get it back together…

    Cherrybomb unit there its apparently very slightly used and well maintained. Looks like its been sitting and probably has a clogged up carburetor due to ethanol exposure like all of em. Very inexpensive fix even with the head replacement. Good luck!

    Thanks for the video, but with respect, taking it apart is easy. Putting it all back together is the tough part and where I need help.

    The Legendary Echo SRM-210 Is one of the Greatest Trimmers Ever Made because they are extremely reliable If you take care of them, I have one and it has lasted 17 Years and it starts first pull and runs like new, sadly today I fear the worst is yet to come because it was a little bit easier to pull today and I fear it’s time might be alone it and it might have low compression and might be ready to go to trimmer heaven soon
    Edit: I’m actually really sad because my family took such good care of it and maintained it well

      Pretty sure you can still get parts for the SRM-210. It wouldn't be that hard to repair it & it would be a fun and rewarding project but when you factor in time spent repairing it and cost of parts it's likely more cost effective to chuck it and buy a new one.

    I am also restoring a echo 210 for the 1st time. However I'm at a stopping point because one of the hex screw on the housing assembly is stripped. I even used an extractor, unfortunately is didn't work because the area is to norrw. Any suggestions on how to get that one out? I seen you had a dewalt hex key set...the hex screws are so rusted and old on my echo srm 210.

    • @Lawntism
      @Lawntism  Před 3 lety

      Honestly, I was soaking a lot of the screws and bolts with WD40 before taking them off. There were some I would let sit for even a day or two, depending on how stubborn they were. Try something like that to help loosen up that rust.

    Wow i have an old grey echo srm230 ive had for over 20 years and ive been offered $200 for it why are people offering top dollar for these old Trimmers and i also have a srm210 thats also over 20 years old ive been offered $125 they both still run great and they have been used commercially all this time you can't kill them as long as you use Echo oil

      I think it’s because it’s grey lol when echo went back to orange I just missed the grey model and finally found one left in stock so I snagged it. I really liked the grey color better tbh

    Did you find or deal with a lot of carbon build up on the inside of the muffler? What did you use to clean that out -- I see you avoided getting anything on the inside of the muffler. Mine happens to have a lot of both carbon build up and fuel/oil mix, so I am not sure I can soak it and if I do, in what?

    • @Lawntism
      @Lawntism  Před rokem +1

      Yeah, I avoided soaking or getting anything on the inside. I just sprayed some of that purple Super Clean degreaser on the outside. Let it soak for a bit, and then used a fine metal scrub pad and brush to clean off the build up.

    Is that an air jet you keep pulling over your shoulder? So I would need a compressor to do the job?

    • @Lawntism
      @Lawntism  Před rokem

      It is a compressor. I only used it to quickly dry off the parts. You do not need it. You can simply let them air dry or wipe dry.
