The real question is which team will destroy their roster and future to get one player, who is a generational talent but you need to build a very specific type of team around him.
There is no point to make such a trade if you need to give up 3-4 valuable core players, that team will then be in the same position the Mavs are right now.
Luka needs a defensive juggernaut of a team around him plus a couple of co stars who can score 20 AND a capable guard who can run the offense when he is resting or injured...
OKC can trade Giddey, Jalen Williams, Chet Holmgren and 6 first round picks for Luka and still have SGA and Dort who are also really good defensive players.
And they will still have picks and cap space to add the rest of the pieces and you could have a Championship team right there.

Giddey is kind of a weird player. Really great passer, but bad defender and a bad shooter who also needs the ball a lot. Holmgren is also injured and players of that size and that physical frame are always plagued with injuries. The only actual core player would be Jalen Williams.
SGA, Luka & Dort is a phenomenal core for a championship team. You just need a decent center (Poetl for example) and a bunch of decent players that can shoot and defend, which you can easily achieve with the massive amount of picks the Thunder have and the fact that a lot of players would be super happy to play for an OKC with Shai and Luka.
It just makes a lot of sense.

That's a tad decieving, since the West was INSANELY balanced this year. We didn't even know who 5-9 would be until the final game of the final day. So literally like a 5 game winning streak/losing streak is the difference between 5th and out of the play in.
But the real answer is defense, or lack thereof, and how close a lot of their wins were. When you are barely winning games, all it takes is a little added pressure, or a bit of disorganization while trying to adjust to new players to turn 1-5 point wins, into 1-5 point loses. Cuban's just a terrible owner. Hope Luka leaves them.

Bruh when they were the 4th-5th seed they were only 2 games out from the 10th seed, the west was bunched tight.
They fell off because of team chemistry and bad coaching combined with terrible defense and lack of leadership. They ended up losing so many close games and they would lose to tanking teams without their starters.

If Mark Cuban isn't going to make any changes this roster and not figure out what to do to build around Luka, he might asked to be traded. This looks bad on the Mavs considering how bad this season went even the Kyrie trade made it worse somehow considering he's a free agent this summer.
Nobody has said it, but OBVIOUSLY Cuban is THE problem in Dallas. Has been A problem from the VERY BEGINNING. Only he has worked the media to where he has this image as a savvy owner who runs a great organization. The proof is in the fact that nobody wants to play for him. Year after year of pursuing free agents only to strike out. Rick Carlisle quitting the team. BOTH Nelsons suing him. Him suing the Nelsons. SUING a former coach for BEATING HIM IN THE PLAYOFFS! That is NOT normal behavior.

Guys, the real problem is Mavs identity. Before Kyrie trade, they knew what they were. Luka controlled the court, others stand and deliver 3s and gave their best in Defense. In clutch situations Luka always had the ball.
Not a great strategy but it was clear and it worked last season.
After kyrie trade, they didn't know what to do. Who is going to control the court? Was it going to be fast paced or slow?
Who will handle the ball in clutch situations? Just whole lot of mess that Jason kidd should have sorted but failed miserably.
So, unless they have a clear vision of what kind of team they want to be, it wouldn't matter who stays and Who they recruit.

Nobody knows why they added KI anyway beside Luka. A PF/C or SF, but PG?! Marc blew up that season.

To be fair the nuggets do have all of their draft picks and a trade surrounding a player like MPJ or Jamal Murray are pretty solid ready to win players. Plus the nuggets got young guys in the pipeline like Christian Braun or a Peyton Watson as well as AG locked in for another 3 years

Kyrie is self explanatory, Zion has only played like 120 games since he got to the league, he’s way too injury prone. KD was out that whole first year bc of his achilles and he would’ve asked out after his second year
I believe even if Dallas has Wembanyama they put him in the G league like the very talented and experienced Jaden Hardy at the beginning of this season because Jason Kidd simply doesn't believe in rookies at all. And after when he comes to the first team Jason Kidd will give you 12 minutes per game. Because of all that Jason Kidd has to go before any new talented rookie will come.

@@AMHoops the mavericks can get a similar player to jalen brunson if they offer a bag to fred vanvleet. they could try to trade for og anunoby but i dont believe they have the assets to land og. they could even try to offer the bag to gary trent jr. so there is options for the mavericks in free agency if they willing to spend. hell they can even get nick nurse as a coach as he likely on his way out of toronto for creating drama at his post game.

Dallas is a very small market team, they are the 2nd smallest market in the NBA, so it’s very hard to attract any star players to sign with Dallas.
Luka will never win in Dallas due to the fact that Dallas is the smallest market team in the entire league. Not even role players want to sign there. Best bet is that he leaves Dallas and go to the Lakers.

As a Mavs fan I have resigned to the fact that LD will never win a chip with Dallas. We have a mid off head coach, a Nike exec as our GM, and a owner that loves the team and spends a lot but knows almost next to nothing about building a team to win with LD.
Unless we get Caruso/top 3 perimeter D wing and a crazy high draft pick, there is no turning around that my beloved team will crumble into a bag of crushed chips.

So, the Mavericks agreed to give the Knicks a pick if they made the playoffs. (Idk how the deal happened but there was a deal.) But the deal was if the Mavericks didn’t make the playoffs they wouldn’t have to give the Knicks there pick, so the Mavericks were about to get eliminated from the playoffs if they didn’t win a game against the Atlanta Hawks. And the Mavericks decided to sit Kyrie and Luka, (Their star players) which gives them a better chance of LOSING. And they did end up losing. At first, no one really knew why the mavericks sat their star players and their only hope of making the playoffs, people started to assume the mavericks organization just thought they weren’t good enough and didn’t care. But after the NBA investigated a little, they realized it may of been because they didn’t want to give the Knicks the draft pick and wanted more draft picks. So now the NBA is investigating into the Mavs more and tryna figure out if that is why, if they think that’s the reason why the Mavericks mostly likely will have to give the Knicks their pick. And now theirs rumors Luka and Kyrie are gonna leave. (Luka Demands a Trade and Kyrie signs with someone else.” So yeah hope this helped goodbye.

The thing people forget when talking about Luka to Denver is you do not want to have two superstars, who are defensive liabilities. The offense would be unheard of but the defense would suck.
Given Cuban decisions in the last decades, I wouldn’t be surprised if they trade Luka for Ben Simmons.
I would not trade for him because of the cost. You spend the farm you might end up right back in same position with Luka not getting right fit, then he leaves. I would just build assets and try to sign him.
