  • Some of my favorite Ugly Stik rods, including a 40+-year-old Ugly Stik, the newest GX2 Ugly Stik 4'9" Heavy Spinning Rod, and the 6'6" GX2 Casting Rod. Also featured is my hack or modification to make the trigger of the rod more comfortable. The trigger on the newer GX2 Casting rods is poorly designed, in my opinion, and compared to other triggers on other rods, including other Shakespeare fishing rods. I came up with a little workaround to make it better. Quite honestly, the trigger design is my #1 reason why I am hesitant to purchase new Ugly Stik Casting Rods without this trick

Surprisingly, this is one of the only actual pictures of the Ugly Stik 4'9" Heavy on the entire internet.

Typically that's the rod manufacturers ID number that varies from maker to maker. It's an in-house system that identifies the rod year, etc.
