      It's sort of like the overuse of the phrase "aircraft-grade aluminum," as if it makes a difference whether the aluminum used in my $1 bottle opener is the same that's used in planes or not. Even if it is the same, not only is it generally cheap and very commonly used aluminum, airframes are moving away from basic aluminum alloys in favor of light, strong composites.

    I'm a chemist Irl, and the way detergent works is by bonding with things attached to your clothes and it lifts it off. It also is alkaline, which causes grease and other fatty oils to dissolve in it (water doesn't work). So raising the pH would help, but 8.5 is rather low.

    • @Soniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiic
      @Soniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiic Před 4 lety +4

      @@nathanclark2424 Water does have some natural ability to do that technically but in the context of stained or dirty clothes it won't be able to lift these bits and pieces off just through moisture and kinetic force. • @LegendaryPingu
      @LegendaryPingu Před 8 lety +16

      +Coolkidkarateman It is toxic, its a pretty strong oxidising agent and its fairly acidic. You just don't take enough in large quantities for it to be effective. Your bodies immune system uses hydrogen peroxide to kill bacteria, but it can just as easily kill your own cells.
      When you wash clothes with it all you're doing is killing any pathogens on those clothes. After this is done it turns into water, basically.

    "Raises the ph level to 8.5 or greater" With a quick little Google search, 8.5 ph is seawater. And also the normal ph level of hydrogen peroxide is 1 to 5 based on the concentration. So much you can learn from a quick Google search. Go ahead and prove me wrong, I barely know anything about this stuff anyway,

    • @TalkAboutaTrapstar
      @TalkAboutaTrapstar Před 7 lety +4

      +Adrian H. Well yes and no, a lower PH is more acidic, yet a higher PH is alkaline, and there's not a lot of difference. The PH scale goes from 1-14, and neutral in the middle (7) is what most water's PH is. But, a common misconception of alkalis is that they can't burn you, only acids can. This is not true, there are corrosive alkalis. But actually, if it raised the water's PH to 8.5 it would make it slightly on the alkaline side, like vinegar but not acidic. So it would wash your clothes, as vinegar is a natural cleaner because of it's acidic properties. It goes the same way for water, if it's slightly more alkaline / acidic it can clean better. But also, you don't want to be drinking PH 5-6 water considering hydrochloric acid is at 1 on the PH scale. PH 7 water is best. It can dip or dive in certain areas, that's why some places are called 'Hard water' areas or 'Soft water' areas. Hope this helped!

    • @adrianh.5939
      @adrianh.5939 Před 7 lety +1

      That is all correct but everything I've learned about acids leads me to believe that adding a H+ ion to an H2O molecule effectively lowers the PH because that is how an acid is made, if instead they added an OH- ion or hydroxide that would raise the PH and make it more alkaline.

    • @dj_sp3rmcount
      @dj_sp3rmcount Před 6 lety

    I could see those balls reducing laundry detergent but get rid of it altogether not possible. I am a stain master there is no stain that I don't know a chemical that can remove it. Hot water detergent and agitation remove most stains, so those balls will add more agitation could allow you to use less detergent and get the same clean.

    • @KoolBreeze420
      @KoolBreeze420 Před 8 lety +4

      UglyDrummer That wont work the rocks are too smooth. Without me actually testing this product the best I can say for it is that it may reduce detergent use but it absolutely can't get rid of it. Unless they have added a detergent to the material that is slowly released giving the ball a limited life since it will eventually fade away but their claims with my knowledge of being a stain master are ludicrous, water and agitation alone cant clean detergent must be added to the water and you can research the science behind that.

    • @KoolBreeze420
      @KoolBreeze420 Před 8 lety +4

      Christian Rankin Your example also wont work they are too smooth.I am a verified stain-master I know what it takes to clean fabric. these balls can't do away with detergent altogether but there is possibility of them reducing detergent use and that's all I said and it's based on real science and experience...

    • @KoolBreeze420
      @KoolBreeze420 Před 8 lety +8

      +Mike Dejean Yes I am a certified stainmaster, I was given a course on stains when I cleaned carpets the different types of stains and what it takes the clean them. Usually when I tell people this the 1st question I get asked is, How do you remove mustard? The short answer is you can't. The reason you can't is because mustard stains aren't actually stains but is considered to be a dye so you would have to try and use another dye to cover it but i've never seen anyone succeed doing that. The other thing I get asked is how to get candle wax of the carpet and this is actually an easy one you get some brown paper bags get your iron and then place the bag on the wax and iron the bag the wax will stay on the bag. It's quite amazing the 1st time you do it cause it sounds so odd but i've done it dozens of times for customers .
