  • Today we have 30th Episode of Fun Farms, where we show how to build extremely cheap, simple to build, and virtually unbreakable slime farms, that after improvements you would make to them could provide you with up to 30.000 slimeballs/hour.

    Works in 1.19.4. I dug to about y = 3 for the bottom layer (the magma blocks) and built the farm normally. Unsure if digging all the way down to -64 makes a difference in spawning, but it's a lot more deepslate and takes longer to mine, so I settled for y = 3. Slimes should be able to spawn below y = 40, so as long as you're doing that it should be fine. Another tip: I built it in a deep ocean next to a mushroom biome, so there are very little to no caves for other mobs.

    • @ScientiChip
      @ScientiChip Před 9 měsíci +1

      The lower you go the more rates you get so yes, there is a difference.
      But being Tha far down requires a perimeter otherwise mobs in caves will take up the mob cap

  • @Daniel-nl3ug
    @Daniel-nl3ug Před 4 lety +3

    I completely agree with this video! I hear people all the time asking about the "best way to make a quad slime farm", or how to find loads of slime chunks close together, when really almost noone needs a slime farm that uses more than 1 chunk. The only thing I think I'd like to add, is that some biomes have less caves than others. I've found deep ocean works nicely, as long as you afk a little higher in the sky, at about y140 perhaps, as most of the caves are very low in the world, so at this height you will find almost no mobs spawning outside of the farm. It does mean that you have to build your spawning platforms a bit higher, but I found that even without removing water, a single chunk slime farm in deep ocean with layers starting at y16 going to y40 you can get easily 5k slime balls per hour, so I think it's definitely something interesting to experiment with.

    • @gnembon
      @gnembon  Před 4 lety +3

      Oceans are worse in the long run because of water removal that you need to do, but primarily because of drowned, that you cannot that easily control. For a started farm might be a good idea, but quickly it would become a bad place to have a farm.

    • @Daniel-nl3ug
      @Daniel-nl3ug Před 4 lety +2

      @@gnembon oh I completely forgot about drowned, I havent played 1.13+ for a while now. When I used this before, it was in 1.12 so worked well, but I guess you're definitely right that it's a bad idea in newer versions. Do you know of any particular biomes that do have fewer caves to light? I suppose that using a special biome wouldn't be in keeping with the idea of this farm, but I'd still be interested.

    • @_Abjuranax_
      @_Abjuranax_ Před 4 lety +2

      @@Daniel-nl3ug There are some Swamp Biome designs that use high AFK points to eliminate caves entirely. The problem with Slime Chunks is that they only work below Y40, which can leave caves that need to be lit.

    For anyone who doesn't want to make a dropper system but still want to collect it in a water tube, go for upper slabs instead of chests(and skip the hopper and chests and make the water flow wherever). the items will flow through while the small slimes can't. You may have to place the water in a right way to make all items go but I'd recommend making a small demo version on a testing world to see if it works for you.

    It sure as hell beats digging 4 chunks and channel spaces around up to y: 40 in terms of work per return. But then again, game mechanics changed a lot since I did that (full release 1.3-1.5), though even back before 1.10 or so I wouldn't necessarily recommend all the effort I did, especially in the grindy way I did! This seems to be so much better, especially after the magma blocks spawning in under water ravines, you can just sink in the bubbles then float up eventually sinking a bit to get a breath in the bubbles. I'm still trying to understand the "new" spawn rules including that string part and why Mojang changed it, so I'm mostly just accepting it and figuring out what's worth changing on different farms!

    Another thing worth mentioning: on servers it's very likely someone else will be taking your space in three mob cap and dramatically decreasing the spawn rate. Thousands of slime per hour might in theory be possible but most of the time, even if you light all the caves or build a perimeter, you will still have mobs spawning somewhere else.

    It's actually a very good design decision to not have honey stick to slime. Why would they? It allows to build very large contraptions with slime chains controlling certain blocks and not being stuck with an adjacent honey block chain controlling some other blocks. It enables so much stuff from the point of view of redstone contraption. :)

    Using iron golems to get the slimes out quicker would be beneficial for spawning spaces, as in 1.13 and above mobs can’t spawn if their hitbox would collide with another entities.

    • @gnembon
      @gnembon  Před 4 lety +2

      You are correct but that has just a minimal effect really. First of all - the single farm has (with 7 layers), 1792 spawning spaces. Each slime hopping around blocks from 4 to 9 max spawning spaces, so with 30 slimes on the platform (you typically get less) that's 250 spawning spaces. These spawning spaces are also in the middle of the spawning area, so when pack spawning happens, it is very likely if will find some other spots in case collision on one spot fails (game does 12 checks for a pack of 4 slimes), so it does matter, but not that much.

    20:23 - 4 cobwebs = 30% lag reduction. Neat.
    Also, did it really take three years since the introduction of the magma block until someone came up with an efficient design that doesn't require either iron golems (which could die) or cacti (which could destroy drops) for killing slimes and also doesn't use hopper minecarts (which randomly misbehaved in various ways during this entire time) for item collection?

    • @gnembon
      @gnembon  Před 4 lety +1

  • @boxlid214

    Instead of having a current wrap around the platform, pour water sources all along the edge of the platform so it flows out towards the wall. Dig a 1 block lower water channel and block it off with upside down stairs. The large slimes can't jump in that current and the items slip right through the stairs into the collection trough. You can lift the slimeballs upwards with one block of soul sand (water elevator). The small slimes can't fit in the item trough as well. You don't have to wait for the large slimes to move to the corners that way. You want all platforms at level 30 or below, going up to 40 hurts the rates as Ilmango explained, so you have plenty of room to dig a 1 block lower item trough on the outside.
