Is this the end of Helga the Intruder?

  • After years of blood, sweat, and tears...Countless hours and thousands of pounds in parts...My beloved Suzuki Intruder VS1400 has taken a huge punch to the gut.
Shortly after releasing my last video titled "I'm Back", Helga, my Suzuki Intruder, has had serious, bottom-end problems and is in need of a full-engine tear-down. Finding chunks of magnetic metal in the oil the size of nickels/pennies has left me with huge cause for concern and there is only one way to proceed...to tear her down AGAIN.
In the meantime, I found myself slipping into the dark pit of a 'biker without a bike' and took the plunge and purchased another motorcycle that I have yet to have any regrets about. I have owned my xjr1300 for no more than 3 weeks and have already covered nearly 600 miles on her.
Thanks for putting up with the shoddy consistency of late on this channel. This video is to serve primarily as an update, a mic, and a video quality test having recently built a custom vlog audio rig and I am pleased with the results. Now to fix the damn battery life problem on the GoPro and we are all systems go for the future!
See you soon folks, I hope you are all keeping well out there!

This is the biggest project I have taken on, The bike will be completely stripped down to the frame, the engine will be removed for new piston rings to be installed, the wiring harness is going to be rewired and the entire bike overhauled, ready for spring 2020....I hope.

Dang, so sad to hear. I got a few thousand miles out of my worn out 1400. It was so good to me until I tipped it over in the driveway. Left crank case cover cracked and who know what behind it. I want to rebuild mine as well, its at 49k miles. I'll definitely keep posted on your progress for my own project. I have nice brand new tires on mine too! Kills me!

Bloody hell! - She could at least have held out til you got a few seasons on her now she was all dressed up and ready for prom! No, you're just gonna have to sort her out man, too many hours put in to give up now and if nothing else, it'll make for another exciting batch of videos, it's winter anyway - what else ya gonna fiddle with til spring comes? ;-)

You are absolutely right my friend! I almost...ALMOST gave up on her the day I found the failure. Not more than a month on the road after 2 years of work and thousands invested does the engine fail. BUT I'm not done now, she WILL ride again! Open heart surgery here we come! Great to hear from you man!

I am selling my VS1400 GLP, 2003 (in Germany) :-) If you need a new Motor, a new VS1400 as a project :-) Its all default, no customization :-) and it runs great. (Its time for me to go with my dream-bike - I always wanted to have a FJR1300....and as I am getting older, I need to make this dream come true)

Hey buddy love your content as I am in love eith the intruders as well!!! If you can find it in your heart to reply to me on this I would greatly appreciate it...I replaced my slave cylinder on my 1400..when I took it off I never remembered a small gap between motor and piston cup. However I really wasn't looking for one either lol. So after reinstall of new part I seen there is a small gap...Is this normal, or what did I mess up? Clutch is currently working though still feels a bit wrong, so I need to know if this gap is a concern or normal to continue... Thank you in advance!!

Sorry to hear about your Intruder, sometimes is not fun to get all invested on something that keeps breaking, but it's part of life.
Good to know that you got other bike to keep rolling like it should be.
Why you guys have so many round abouts????
How your light signals work? Red yellow is go?

    •  Před rokem +1

Hey Jaime, it is what it is. I'll be tearing in to her again soon to find out what has happened.
lol, We use roundabouts in the UK more so than traffic lights. It keeps the flow of traffic moving without everyone needing to come to a stop ;)
Red Stop, Yellow Go ONLY if the crossing is clear, Green Go.

    • @azazelakira12
      @azazelakira12 Před rokem +1

@ we here in the USA don't use roundabouts that much, and with those light signals I would have to get use to them, that is weird.
Hagard I remember we did a "bring Hagard to America" go found me that we never used. Contact the guy that made it, I would rather use that money to fix your bike if you are not able to come.

    Hi there,
    (Great videos btw!)
    I’m considering buying a Rhino trike - 2006 vs1400 intruder.
The bike has probably been sitting in a showroom for at least a couple of months.
My concern is that the old fuel will have affected the carbs, and I’ll be stranded on the way home!
Do you have any thoughts on this……?
Also what is your opinion on the reliability etc of the intruder?
Many thanks for any help you can give me.
    Cheers Bro
    Mark

    •  Před 4 měsíci

Hey Mark. Great question. The only way to be sure about the bikes fuel system is to check it before you ride it. If she starts with minimal problems and minimal popping and back firing then you should be good to go...do you have far to travel?
If its been in a show room, I would like to think that they will have drained the fuel before storing. I. Terms of reliability, the biggest flaw I have found with these bikes is the wiring loom on the bike (I rebuild mine from the ground up with all new wire) and lack of upkeep and servicing by the owner. They are big engines with big components and regular oil changes is a must. 10w40 semi synthetic is what I run, found full synthetic was too thin when hot. I change my oil and filters every march. Typically cover between 3-5k per year on them. Feel free to ask if you have more questions

I have an 86 Intruder 700vs. it has the front break on the left side. you think it would be ok to swap the forks around to have it on the right side?

Don't know if you'll see the but just swap the lines going to the resivor. On the handle...use new washers and pretty straight forward
