  • How to change the fork seals on a Suzuki VS1400 Intruder - Part 1 of 2.
Learn the process of disassembling, inspecting and rebuilding the front forks on your Suzuki VS1400 Intruder.
Using simple tools, we can tear down the forks, but there is one tool that I would highly recommend that you purchase, and that is a seal driver.
A fork seal driver is designed to make installing new fork seals a simple and easy process. Fork seals on any motorcycle need to be seated correctly otherwise you will end up with leaking front forks on your intruder shortly after you re-install them.
Ensuring that the dust caps are seated correctly is also a key factor in changing the fork seals, if you have not ordered a fork seal kit, I highly recommend that you click the link below and get yourself a set.
You need a total of 354ml of fork oil in each fork with stock jugs.

This is the biggest project I have taken on, The bike will be completely stripped down to the frame, the engine will be removed for new piston rings to be installed, the wiring harness is going to be rewired and the entire bike overhauled, ready for spring 2020....I hope.

We clog the oil seals without a mandrel, we clog the old oil seal. Cue a great key, I have a broom)))

Nice to know that the Showa fork, is exactly the same, on the inside, as the fork of my Harley. (the legs are also 41 mm) I think i even can use the progressive springs i still have in the shed.
    Thanks for the vid Hagar👍🏻

I’ve always had good luck by holding pressure against the fork tube whilst turning the bolt. Failing that, a air wrench with long Allen socket will spin that little bugger out in fine fashion!

Awesome tutorial! The springs in my 1400 are not like those shown. I have a PVC spacer on the top of the spring and three (!!!) rebound springs on the damper rod. Do you have any idea on what may be going on here?

    •  Před 3 lety

Sounds like the previous owner my have tried to extend the forks by adding the additional rebound springs. The springs that are in mine are 3rd party made by the brand Progressive Suspension which is why half are tightly wound.
