  • I decided to add another Suzuki Intruder 1400 to my stable. It's been a few years, since 2015 to be exact, since I've owned a big metric cruiser and honestly, I've missed it. The Suzuki Intruder family has held a special place in my motorcyclist heart for a long time and I'm glad to have another.

    They are fabulous machines.
    Mine is a 92 in maroon and salmon with lots of genuine Suzuki Crome fittings.
    30,000 miles and the bike presents as showroom. Perrelli Route 66 rubber and silver star ultra make’s night riding plenty easy.
    Gradient ruby wind shield and cobra dual staggered right exhaust. She’s gorgeous and runs as well as she looks.
    After 32 years of service the under tank fuel lines between tank valve and fuel shut off are exposed to fuel continuously. Just shorten a 1/4” and re clamp. Amazing Japanese top quality.

    Decent review, I'm about to buy a 1994 Intruder 1400 for my retirement later this year, it will be the first of this type of bike I've had, the way I look at it, it's time to slow down a bit and relax and this is just the ticket.
    Only regret I have is that unlike in the USA over here in the UK more specifically Northern Ireland you can at least double the price of what you paid.
    All the best and "keep it between the hedges"!

    • @FloridaTwoWheelAdventures

      I’ve heard these bikes go for more money in Europe. Not sure why that is. I did get a good deal on mine, even by US standards, because I bought it from a friend. Having said that, the very first VS1400 I bought was a 1998 model with 5 speed transmission and lower miles, and I only paid $550 for it. I sunk another $1000 in it and rode it for around 20,000 miles. The problem I have now is finding any which haven’t been bobbed or otherwise made to look completely different. I rather prefer the stock look of the Intruders and while I rarely ride this bike, I’m loathe to ever sell it. Enjoy yours!

      I had a 1982 GS850 back in the early 1990s. A buddy of mine used to be an engine builder and he had spent a lot of time on that engine. Then divorce hit and he needed money so I ended up with it. To this day it was the fastest bike I’ve owned. Well, maybe not quite as fast as my Triumph. The Intruders are great bikes though, I really love the way they look.

    A very informative video for me as I've just bought a '94 model with less than 10,000 miles on it. It will sit nicely in my garage next to my '88 vmax 1200. It amazes me just how little you americans pay for your motorbikes, $1200 for that one is an absolute bargain, mine cost me £5000 here in the UK although it was from a dealer so you do pay more for their overheads and profit margins I suppose.
    Ever thought about a vmax 1200 ? it's certainly an aquired taste and a brute of a bike if you mistreat it but a great experience none the less, thanks for your opinion on the vs, much appreciated.

    Classics and their paint job you leave as they are as long as dents or scratches are not too noticeable. When bike enthusiast bring up a conversation on the bike at least you can begin with it's original paint for that year. The make and models of all bikes from Japan are classics for their looks, maintenance friendly and they will last forever.

    I was looking at mine to "bob" it and I am wondering why you detest it? I love my 96 and I finally got around to tuning the carbs because the previous owner put on straight pipe without adjusting the fuel system. And while I was tinkering with the carbs I got to thinking about ratting the bike out or bobbing it just because I saw something in the potential of the bike I liked. The way the bike is set up, it wouldn't take much to do my mods. AND I have loved this bike since I first saw it in 96! So why the distain for the bobbing? Just curious I guess. Is it a personal thing or does it go against the Intruder standards (LOL)?

    • @FloridaTwoWheelAdventures
      @FloridaTwoWheelAdventures  Před 2 lety +2

      Simply a matter of personal taste. I love the clean classic look of the bike as it was born and I generally dislike all bobbers. So when someone basically ruins a beautiful bike, I’m against it. There are a finite number of these on planet earth and you can’t really go back from a bob job. Obviously I can’t buy every one, but I will encourage every one who brings it up to reconsider!

      @@FloridaTwoWheelAdventures I love you dedication to the bike and I feel the same way...kind of! LOL There is something in the look I see but the original look of the Intruder has something special about it, I agree. I know of another bike exactly like mine for sale where I bought mine from 4 years ago. Maybe I get that one and have one original and one "modified"! But like you said there is no going back BUT you can get parts on line if you REALLY wanted to! The only two differences mine has from the original is different pipes and no buck horn handle bars. My son's bike has those handle bars and I particularly don't care for them myself. Thanks for your feed back and enjoy the ride!

    • @FloridaTwoWheelAdventures
      @FloridaTwoWheelAdventures  Před rokem +2

      It starts with checking to see if you’ve got a good ground. There are a couple of grounding points for the system. Make sure they’re clean and tight. Do you have any electrical activity? Headlight? Once the electrical is sound then you’ll need to see if you get spark. There are a couple nanny systems(clutch and kickstand) that will interfere with spark if they’re bad. The clutch switch is the most common. You can pull the two leads off the switch and jumper them with a fuse temporarily to see if that’s causing a no crank situation. I believe you can do the same with the kickstand switch but I’ve never had one of those fail. Another common issue is the starter solenoid. You can jump that with a screwdriver to test it but be ready for a little arcing and engine cranking if it works. Be in neutral especially if you bypass the safety switches discussed earlier. Once you’ve eliminated these, a little deeper dive might be necessary. Bad coils, bad starter, etc can cause no crank issues.

      @@FloridaTwoWheelAdventures thanks,
      Question so the kickstand has something to do with it starting or not starting,
      I had to replace the kickstand

    • @FloridaTwoWheelAdventures
      @FloridaTwoWheelAdventures  Před rokem +3

      Then I’d start there. The safety switch for the kickstand is likely your issue. It determines if the kick stand is up or down. You can either try to bypass it or just make sure you’re in neutral when you try to start it. There may a second neutral safety switch but I’d have to double check. Basically the system decides if your bike is safe to start. In gear with stand down, no start. Stand up, clutch in, start. If either safety device is inoperable, you’re a dead duck. You can bypass both if you’re a brave man but I’m not giving you that advice officially. I’m not about to be sued because someone cranks their bike straight into a brick wall or something! Good luck.
