    I've had a '96 for 7 or 8 years now. At the time I bought it, I was riding a 1980 Honda cb650 Custom. When I took my first ride on the Intruder I was impressed by how much harder I had to grip the handles and tighten stomach muscles during acceleration. Momentarily scared I was that first time, thinking Geeez, I could have rolled right off the back, ass over teakettle.
    Anyway, what I wanted to say was, all the comments by the chaps in the video are right on.
    I live on the 51st parallel but every spring when I go out to the unheated garage, attach the charger, turn the choke on and press the starter, after a crank or five, one cylinder barks and then the other, thirty seconds later. And the only reason it's ever been in the shop is for new tires.

    I have a 98....best bike i've ever owned....It got stolen once but i got her back.....fixed a few bits and pieces and she's like new again...This is the second one I've owned....love it! Even two up, the bike barely flinches...

    I had a 2002 800 then moved up to the S83 In 2006. Best bikes i ever owned! I had all the extras on both and both were candy apple red. Great memories on those bikes! Made a 1000 mile, 2 up trip on the S83, I including riding the dragon! What a bike!

    I agree about the buzziness. The stock gearing doesn't leave a lot of high end on the highway but as a cruiser, for me, it is perfect!
    And yes i have the 5 speed later model.

    I've owned 2 VS1400's ...a '96 and an '04. Both were great bikes. I'd buy another one if they were still available. I have an '07 C109R monster now, but I still like the VS1400 better. Only problem I ever had with the VS1400's was the hydraulic clutch slave cylinder needing bled every spring after severe cold weather. Both bikes did this. Apparently the cylinder seals took a set from the cold and allowed air into the system. Once bled, they were fine until the next spring. Other than that, they were great, fun bikes. Removing the battery was a pain too. It has a trap door on the bottom of the battery compartment and the battery drops down in front of the rear tire!

    I have a 1994. The motorcycle was built by hanging the rear carburetor in the air, and then assembling the rest of the bike around it. It's fast and fun to ride, though.

    I recently purchased one of these majestic beasts for $750, mounted a cheap sub $200 windshield on her and it that certainly makes longer rides almost peaceful in my half helmet. I've also added a Boss Audio 1000w 4 speaker sound system (yes, despite the very short handlebars!), full RGB LEDs (hidden tastefully) all over the underside and side panels, and installed a bike alarm where the tools normally would be in the back seat rest (tools are in a bag on the front forks where the music amp lives), AND I'm a taller, larger rider at 6'3 420lbs and I don't feel cramped at all (which I was not expecting at all!). Basically, I absolutely LOVE my old '92 Intruder 1400.

  • @BucketWheat
    @BucketWheat Před 5 lety

    My 92 model will hit 125 mph! I really enjoy it! And I have done 900 mile trips on a Straight-thru ride!
    I did add a small, contoured windscreen, and it is just enough to be Very Comfortable.

    Out of the many street bikes I have owned over the years. I like my 05 Suzuki S83 aka Intruder 1400 the best for fun weekend rides. I am a dual sport/adventure rider mostly and sadly sold my completely modified from suspension to engine DR650se and bought a new KTM690r in 2016. Now I need to add a Suzuki C90T to complete my collection for a long haul touring bike. The only issue I ever had with the old Intruder/S83 was a burnt out stator/alternator. I read that it was a common issue. Other than that never a problem and miles of happy riding. I kinda doubt I will ever sell or trade off my S83. It just does everything right for a fun, sporty, around town and back highway type of bike...not to mention save me $$$$$ keeping it. Thanks for the cool retro test review of a great motorcycle.

      Can U tell me more about the stator issue? I had some starting issues and wound heavily on the starter. It starts fine now but i am a bit worried about what i may have done to the starter??

    My 87’ is more than powerful. The thing will do wheelies if you crack the throttle in first gear. For a 260lb guy that to me proves its power. Good low end torque. Not a great top end. But it sure is fun

    This bike missed a shot at perfection because of 2 things:
    The front brake ends up as weak and the. wire wheels and tube-type tires are simply unacceptable.
    They revamped the bike in the 90s but missed the mark at perfection.
    Fuel injection is not an improvement.

  • @tonevicar-fr5gh
    @tonevicar-fr5gh Před 4 měsíci

    Hard starting, light frame, hiden spedometer, fake leather seat, strays at starts and stops due to front end rake, difficult to sync carbs, seat is too high making windshield useless, clutch and both brakes need bleeding every season, shaft drive walks through turns making rider reset several times . Mine is for sale. NEVER looking back !
