Suzuki Intruder VS1400: Jet Kit Install - Rebuild Part 13

  • How to install a stage 3 jet kit on a Suzuki Intruder VS1400. The process of installing a stage 3 jet kit on the intruder is quite advanced and I highly recommend that you approach this modification with caution. Not only are you permanently changing the physical state of the carburettors slide, but you are also going to need patience and a good understanding of how to TUNE these carbs after the jet kit has been installed.
The jet kit I am using comprises of:
Front Carb: 170 Main Jet + 60-52.5 Pilot Jet
Rear Carb: 180 Main Jet + stock pilot jet
If the jet kit proves to be too lean, I will have to remove the carbs from the intruder again and install a larger jet kit. Keep an eye on the channel for an update in the coming weeks.

This is the biggest project I have taken on, The bike will be completely stripped down to the frame, the engine will be removed for new piston rings to be installed, the wiring harness is going to be rewired and the entire bike overhauled, ready for spring 2020....I hope.

I only put a stage 1 jet kit on my 1400 and removed my baffles in my cobra drag pipes and running k&n filters (no pods) and my bike pops a little but not bad. Any suggestions? Should I get a higher stage jet kit? Or do I just adjust my mixture screw. Then again my bike has sat for a while. Mine is a 1987 Suzuki intruder 1400

Just a heads up there is an even easier way to get to the a/f screws. Use self tappers then they pull right out without damaging the screw head. It can even be done with the carbs on the bike. I left my carbs on and did it with self tappers and was adjusting and riding in 5 mins. If your doing a full tear down then follow this video if not use self tappers you’ll be much faster and much easier

I yust did a stage 1 jet kit from SIGMA on my boulevard 1400 2008g., i debafled the exhaust and put on k&n filters. It runs good after, and in couple of days i will do the sync. Your video helped a lot. lots of greetings from Croatia.

PLEASE HELP! How did you determine which pod filets to get for this kit? Bought mine with a stage 2 jet kit if I’m not mistaken. Still has box and filters. Do I need to get an 02 sensor to make sure the fuel/air ratio is correct after? If so what should that number be.I don’t want to buy the wrong size or brand and mess the mix up. Thank you!

    •  Před rokem +1

Hi Mark. Before you do any jetting work, it really is important that you understand that there isn't really a one size fits all approach. No matter what you end up installing, chances are you'll have to make numerous changes and adjustments to jet sizes and fuel mixture to get it about right. But if you are dead set on doing this, then the filters need to be a snug fit on the mouths of the carbs and of a high quality brand such as KandN or DNA. Fuel mixture sensor is worth doing if you want a reliable way of knowing if its lean or rich but I haven't personally added one of these myself so I can't advise on what to get.
May the motoGods smile on you during this mod.

@- Hey thanks for getting back to me. Love the videos!
I bought the bike with the jets done by the original owner so I’m committed at this point. But that kinda gives me an idea. There is no set pod filter for a jet kit. Just use what works. Test accordingly. Make adjustment as needed. Thanks for the help.

I know this might be a stupid question, but I have a VS800 and was wondering if this stage 3 kit will work on my bike?

    •  Před 3 lety +1

Hey Nick, hope you are good. So Jetting all comes down the physicalities of the engine/air flow/exhaust system/carbs etc. You will likely be able to install a stage 3 jet kit, but the jet sizes will likely be different to that of a 1400. The carbs, to my knowledge, on an 800 are smaller than the 14 and there for require a different ratio of fuel/air etc. I would look into DynoJet Kits and see if you can find one for the 800. Best of luck brother!

Just some suggestions, you guys are overdoing it, thats whats causing your poor running conditions
Put in your exhaust or air filters and RUN THE BIKE dont make any change from stock see how the bike is running and adjust from there
This bike comes with 125 and 140 main jets, for the time being forget about needles and pilot jets
Make sure you can get to the mixture screw
whether you put in exhausts or air filters start slowly with main jets, go up in either 2.5 or 5 increments, start with the mixture screw 1.5 turns out and go from there
    Good channel, nice work

Hello, I have 2002 intruder 1400, aftermarket pipes, KN filters, and I recently installed jet kit complete with new idler jet (one carb only) When I syncroed the carbs, they were out a country mile, would barely run to get them set. I got them balanced at idle (starts and idles great) and got them balanced around 2k rpm. When taking for test run, anything over 1/2 throttle its spits, spudders and won't really respond till i back off. Suggestions? Do I need to move the location of needles? up?down?

@@quentinpatten7573 The further you put the clip on the needle down makes the mixture more rich,,,,try putting the clip in the middle and remove the shim, youll have to play with the jets to see which will work for you, it hard to say if you are lean or rich at this point, have a peek at the plugs,,,you wont have to do vlave adj on a 1400 as they are self adjusting,,,make sure the floats are set properly,,,,if you still have the stock needles you can try to put those back in, just make one change at a time

    •  Před 2 lety

Yes, so because you have increased the amount of air going into the system by adding pods, you now need to up the jets to compensate. If you are keen to have pods, be prepared for a long process of finding what works. Go with factory pro stage 3 (pink) kit as a starting point

    • @gimmel11
