@MorehardnewsTV yeah, too bad they quit showing videos and turned it into a reality show channel.😔 MTV & the 80's will forever live in my ❤,mind& soul. 💯 ✌💕
I never knew so many people were doing the same thing I did. I’m 55, loved MTV in the 80’s , watched it in the living room on a floor tv, after school and on weekends.
The song is basically about young love and passion and is a song where the boy is trying to seduce the girl. They're from a poor community but he's telling her they'll be able to escape because they're young and clever. He's just doing his best to convince her. Chances are, though, they'll also end up with down eyes sunk in smoke dried faces like their predecessors. The first couple of lines about Johnny Ray is referring to their parents generations also being young and falling in love. Johnny Ray was known for singing heart wrenching songs of love and he was adored by his audiences and epitomised the era of teenagers and first love and the excitement of it all. In the end though, history repeats itself.
Wow I had no idea of the story behind it. Always just danced to it at weddings when I’m really drunk and never listened to the words properly. Makes the song even more special to know this so thanks.

@Durian Durian One-Hit Wonder is a reference to where ever you live. Many bands never had a hit in the USA. Should we only consider your country? How about One Hit Wonders of Vanuatu? Are you interested?
The lyrics are telling the story of normal, working class families, growing up in England in the 50s. The first verse has a sort of 'kitchen sink drama' vibe....the women, the wee wifies, standing in their kitchens listening to the latest heart throb singing on the wireless (radio!), singing along and shedding a wee tear, thinking about the glamorous life portrayed in the song and how it will never be theirs. In the chorus, we can presume Eileen is the daughter of his mum's friend, and all of a sudden our protagonist is noticing her, she's grown up, no longer just the 'girl next door'. The second verse is the old men's version of the women standing about in their kitchens - they're sitting, with their sunken, smoke dried faces in the pub, just sitting, accepting of their hard lot in life. Our narrator is sure that he and Eileen are different - they want more than this.....the world is theirs for the taking, for they are "far too young and clever", and by the way, she's dead sexy in that red dress. It's a mini play, in song form. Folk music really.

One of my all time favourite bands. And they've done loads of songs that I consider even better. Restless natives is arguably my favourite (they did the soundtrack of the Cult film of the same name), The title track of the 3rd album The Seer with Kate Bush on backing vocals, Steeltown from their 2nd album of the same name, The Sailor where the boys really let loose in the second part of the song, Chance, Look away, Just a Shadow, Wonderland, Ships, Celtic Dreams... actually I don't think there's a single song of theirs I don't like.

I LOVED this song when it came out. It was MAJOR big in the day. It has a super original "folks-y" style that I have never heard since. The time signature changes are wonderful, and the way the chorus changes beat is great. One of the best songs of the 80's!!

I love this song so much and it was so fun to watch you hear it for the first time! This is one of the best of the 80s, IMO. It appealed across generations, which was nice for those of us whose parents hated our music! 😂 (Stray Cats has that benefit as well!)

Great reaction to Dexy’s , they were massive in the 80’ here in the uk with several songs , their music has a distinctive Celtic/Irish beat, also this song you’ll hear on the radio at least once a day ( various stations). And everyone young and old sings along.
This came out when I was just a kid (I’m no spring chicken) and I’ve been loving it for decades but still don’t know more than 25% of the lyrics. One of the only lines outside the chorus that I understood was “and you’ll hum this tune forever.” So true... when you can’t grasp the lyrics you do a whole lot of humming to fill in the gaps! 😂 But it’s excellent even if you don’t catch all the words. 👍👍🎶🎵😀 Loved watching your reaction as the song kept evolving.

Lyrics:
Come on, Eileen
Come on, Eileen
Poor old Johnny Ray
Sounded sad upon the radio
But he moved a million hearts in mono
Our mothers cried, sang along, who'd blame them
You're grown (so grown up)
So grown (so grown up)
Now I must say more than ever
(Come on, Eileen)
Too ra loo ra too ra loo rye aye
And we can sing just like our fathers
Come on, Eileen, oh I swear (what he means)
At this moment, you mean everything
You in that dress, my thoughts I confess
Verge on dirty
Ah, come on, Eileen
Come on, Eileen
These people 'round here
Were beaten down, eyes sunk in smoke-dried face
They're resigned to what their fate is
But not us (no, never), no, not us (no, never)
We are far to young and clever
(Remember)
Too ra loo ra too ra loo rye aye
And you'll hum this tune forever
Come on, Eileen, oh, I swear (what he means)
Ah, come on let's take off everything
That pretty red dress, Eileen (tell him yes)
Ah, come on let's, ah, come on, Eileen
That pretty red dress, Eileen (tell him yes)
Ah come on let's, ah, come on, Eileen, please
Come on, Eileen, too rye aye
Come on, Eileen, too rye aye
Now you're full grown
Now you have shown
Oh, Eileen
Said, come on, Eileen
These things they are real and I know
How you feel
Now I must say more than ever
Things 'round here have changed
I say, too ra loo ra, too raloo rye aye
Come on, Eileen
Oh, I swear (what he means)
At this moment, you mean everything
You in that dress, my thoughts I confess
Verge on dirty
Ah, come on, Eileen
Oh, come on, Eileen
Oh, I swear (what he means)

And 2020 !
Ya gotta watch the video... 😊 💃
I remember when this song first came out. It was such a feel good song and still is. Ty great choice!
Great way of putting it, “this song takes you on a journey!” This was one I definitely loved dancing to in the 80’s!!
Thank you for your reaction you should watch the original remastered official video of this song.. This wos one of my favourite songs from the 80s it might not be everyone's cup of tea but it holds a lot af great memories for me and it's so much better than the so called music from today well that's if you want to call it music
Makes you want to dance, you can’t help it. It’s been on my playlist for yrs. 🎻🥁
We feel it too! Throw back all day
Well you can thank MTV for this one....and along with it, in what seemed interminable rotation was "Walking on Sunshine".
Well, thanks for replacing one earworm with another. I'd forgotten about "Walking on Sunshine" but it is still there. LOL
JayveeTV React to some Madness! Same era. 💖💖💖
One step beyond!
Lolalilolily 👍👍👍👍
And The Specials.
Ben Abel Deffo! 👍👍👍
Yeesssss! One Step Beyond! Such a great dance tune.
This was my favorite song for 1982. I was 12 years old. Loved your reaction.
Love this song! I just love 80’s music! 💗
I LOVED this song when it came out. It was MAJOR big in the day. It has a super original "folks-y" style that I have never heard since. The time signature changes are wonderful, and the way the chorus changes beat is great. One of the best songs of the 80's!!
You paused the video and I thought...... The best is yet to come. ❤️
Classic 80s tune, haven't heard this in ages
THANK YOU!! 💕🙏💕 I was in a bit of a funk and this made me feel so much better!! This goes on my favorite reaction list for sure. I love this song so much and it was so fun to watch you hear it for the first time! This is one of the best of the 80s, IMO. It appealed across generations, which was nice for those of us whose parents hated our music! 😂 (Stray Cats has that benefit as well!)
Catchy song. I've heard it many times and have no clue what they are saying.
Exactly it's near impossible to understand what the singer is actually singing. But it's a hell of a song! Always loved it.
same😂
At this moment..you mean everything!!!
The video was great!
the amount of times i’ve heard this song is astronomical
I remember discovering this song before my friends and they hated it. I absolutely loved it. Played it over and over.lol You're reminding me of my age. 56 tomorrow. Love the videos! I still have the vinyl!
A great choice. The instruments perfectly capture the energetic, optimistic, and happy vibe suggested by the hopeful lyrics. And we’ve all been there!
Please react to Rock Me Amadeus by Falco
Ha! another song with almost unintelligible lyrics (bar the chorus). Well, at least for English-speakers, that is. But the tune is very catchy.
Yes!
And his song "Der Kommissar" as well!!!
Rock me I'm a danish
I remember when this song came out...
NOW I feel old..... 😂
Great reaction to Dexy’s , they were massive in the 80’ here in the uk with several songs , their music has a distinctive Celtic/Irish beat, also this song you’ll hear on the radio at least once a day ( various stations). And everyone young and old sings along.
The best selling single of 1982, still fills dance floors. See...every wedding ever.
What a smile! Infectious! Great song too...
Spent far too many drunken nights trying (failing) to kick in time as the music speeds up in the middle. 🤣
Geno is another fantastic song from the band, also their cover of Jackie Wilson Said 👌🏻
Fantastic reaction Jovaughn 🙏🏻🥰
First time I heard this song was way back when MTV was new. When I heard that song I just couldn’t stop dancing. And shock of all shocks my mom would smile and tap her foot when that song would play.
When I was a teenager, I never thought there would be a cool sing with my name in it. This is such a cool, upbeat song. Love Eileen
When you started really dancing at the end I was so happy 🤣🤣 and dancing with you
