- highly underrated period tbh
With the 25th anniversary of the Phantom Menace coming up, we thought it would be cool diving into the intricacies of that period in Galactic History.

Honestly the phantom menace needs it's own prequel trilogy so it finally starts to make sense for your average movie-goer.
I am of the opinion that the prequel trilogy needed to be a twelve-part HBO-style series, or maybe a twenty-four part series.
@@KattbirbYup. The story is just too complexâŠâcomplexâ in a good way.
Iâm of the mind that the Phantom Menace didnât need its own movie. It could have been a series instead and we could have had teen Anakin in the first film, had him turn in the second, and then have a full film of the Jedi purge and Darth Vader.
Itâs just a really boring story, and itâs forced to carry a heavy burden of world building too.
Would be cool if done right but apparently good writing is too difficult for anyone at Disney or lucasfilm, not saying that writing is easy but that is their job and they arenât even competent at it
@@Subzerobyrd it honestly feels like the writing draws from boring board room data on what audiences like.
Like, it feels like the real reason Rey ended being a Mary Sue was because they wanted to show off force powers for the audience. They wanted the sequel trilogy to show the force the way the prequels did, but without any Jedi characters in the script
The Republic and Jedi really did treat the Kaleesh like shit, using them to do their dirty work against the BitthĂŠvrians, only to abandon them and betray them in the Yam'rii's favor. Grievous' hatred of them was very justified.
If youâre interested in this era read Darth Plagueis, I finished it a few days ago and itâs amazing
It deserves a movie. And the Darth Bane books deserve a trilogy.
Absolutely! One of only two books Iâve ever given two readings (the other being the Hobbit).
I've read/listen to the plagueis novel more than I've seen most of the films
â@reddeaddude2187 I think Plagueis could be two parts, divided at Palpatine's recruitment.
One of the best Star Wars Books, one can even say sci-fi books
Wow, perfect timing, literally just finished rereading Darth Plagueis. Such a banger of a book đ„
It's recommended the tarkin novel, smare writer , picks up the story. Tarkin, vader and palpatine are the main characters, the audiobook is wonderful
@@shanenolan5625
On my list for sure, I also listen to the audiobooks, they're incredibly engaging :)
@@punishedvenomsnake716 the voice actor is good British, does a wonder tarkin, and palpatine. Even his female voices are good
James Luceno brings his A game whenever he writes a story. He also worked very hard to keep lore consistent. Check out Labyrinth of evil or Rise of Darth vader which both work very well with Episode 3.
One of the best!
This surely took a lot of work to put together. Good to see such an important period of time covered so heavily.
Yes! I thought he did an excellent job!
Love how thereâs deeper lore just for the buildup of tension leading to TPM and the clone wars than the entirety of Disney canon.
The Eriadu conference alone is deeper than any of the Disney shows including Andor
In the shadows, it was the Sith who weakened the Republic, creating the crises that shook it. Prime examples of their manipulations were seen on Yinchorr, Galidraan, and Naboo. Darth Tenebrous, a cunning Sith Lord, maintained a network of pirates and terrorists, sowing chaos and disorder. Meanwhile, Plagueis, a master of intrigue, orchestrated gatherings where unsuspecting guests plotted against the Republic, unaware that they were unwittingly tangled in Sith matters.
As a Sith Lord I would caveat your ideas as lacking subtlety and raise you a silent benefactor who is unknown but points you to where the money can really be found. I don't care if it leads to your eventual demise. I can't be found if you're floating in space or face down on a planet. LOL
@@henrylawson261 Darth Plagueis had 2 places to get rid of "undesirables": A reclamation station belonging to the Dug crime boss Cabra and a facility in Mustafar. Darth Maul spent his early years in the latter under the care of custody droids.
@@vitorpereira95152 places were mentioned. Surely Magister Demask had access to more options if push came to shove?
We need a Tales of the Bounty Hunters featuring the top three: Jango/Boba Fetts, Cad Bane, and Aurra Singg
Book was 100x better than the Boba Fett show
Singg is interesting but cad bane is just a replacement for Durge and that is a beast that needs screen time
I've said it a thousand times before and I'll say it again... I want a Jango Fett animated series!
Same! Jango Fettâs story, especially in Open Seasons, deserves a series. He became my #1 Star Wars character for the last 22 years and still is. Great character in my book..
You donât want that. Or, you do want that, and you never get to look at the internet ever again. No matter how good it is youâll see nothing but âDisney Star Wars does it again, guys. How to ruin a great series.â
to me this is the most interesting part of galactic history
OMG The Phantom Menace was released 25 yrs ago? Holy đ© I'm getting as old as dirt! đ I've listened to the audiobook of Darth Plagueses done by Fulcrum Entertainment. He does it very very good. Frankly I wiuld live to see a movie ir a series of the book. Kinda like the prequel prequels. đ
Oh man, yeah, we are. I was 7 a years old youngling when ANH came outâŠwhich makes me 46 years AANH; obviously not too old to be a dork :). Look on the bright side, Maul, Obi Wan, and Jinn wonât be moving like they used to either - well, Jinnâs just not moving, although he might look better than all of us.
Thereâs dozens of stories Iâd like to see on film, but without the controversy that surrounds the ânewâ theater movies. To me, I still think Rogue One, my favorite SW theater film, did the entire storyline justice, but subsequent ones failed. Thatâs why Iâm worried âprequel prequelsâ would corrupt the 100,000 BBY, and on, story and timeline.
If only the ancient Sith and Galactic Republic stories would be licensed, or subcontracted, if you will, to smaller but highly dedicated film studios. In a perfect scenario, I could see them pre-released to a subset of fans that could be entrusted to make certain they are consistentâŠsomething akin to âopen sourcingâ them, to use a software paradigm example. Everyone could win - the fans, certainly, but more importantly, the SW Universe.
These are films Iâd actually watch. I stopped watching theater films after Rogue One, but kinda miss them.
I never forgot, I love reading and focusing on Star Wars Legends. It was WAY better before the Disney disaster. đŻ
What dinsey disaster, there is no disney, only legends
@lightningboltt5437 Well said, Disney doesn't exist in Star Wars as far as true fans are concerned.

WOW!!!
Your videos are always excellent, but this one was above and beyond.
Thank you for keeping Legends SW alive.
Oh cool, we've finally got a long form video detailing all the important stuff that happened right before The Phantom Menace. Much like a video detailing the whole Outer Rim Sieges, I've been waiting for this. I enjoyed the stuff I already knew and learned some new stuff as well.
Also, 22:02-22:14: Glad you mentioned the limitations on the PSF's caused by the Rusan Reformations. In videos past when you talked about why the PSFs failed you mentioned it was just because some PSF were too poor to update their forces, but the limitations of the Rusan Reformation also caused some of the failure too since some could afford to upgrade but the regulations prevented them, and then there some that could have upgraded more within the limits but chose not to because of their beliefs like with Naboo, as after The battle of Naboo, Panka was very insistent on upgrading their PSF, but Padme and others were against it. I actually talked about this stuff in my own Star Wars discussion video talking about why the Republic wasn't all bad, which I actually made in response to you're more recent videos where you talked about how the Republic had become an Empire as soon as it declared war on the Separatists, which I disagreed with. Despite disagreeing with you on that point Grand Master Geetsly, I still greatly respect you and enjoy you're content, espically videos like this one, and that Star Wars discussion video I made in response to you has done a lot better than I ever thought it would, becoming my most popular discussion video, so I owe you a lot of gratitude for inspiring me to make it, Geetsly. So thank you and have Happy Revenge of the Fifth. :)
Yâall drop this as I am rereading all my pequel Omnibuses. Great timing
This era of Star Wars is arguably the peak. Itâs so fascinating and entertaining. Darth Plagueis is an immaculate novel, and is set entirely in this time period. Many characters important to the Clone Wars and Imperial eras, such as Grievous, Dooku, Obi-Wan, Windu, and Sidious, got their start in this period. Itâs so foundational to the six-film saga that we all enjoy.
How many feel that the clone Wars and the prequel era by far is better than the sequel era??? Why or why not???
I'd say that most people prefer the former to the latter. The PT era actually has solid world building, unique designs, has movies that actually fit together, etc.
The prequel movies very obviously have George Lucas's style, things people both love and hate, but that's what makes good art. The sequels feel corporate, safe, and utterly devoid of an artistic touch except for The Last Jedi.
At least that movie tried something new even if it didn't pan out well.
I think the reason people generate towards the prequel/clone era is because of how much lore has come out of it. All the spin offs, and shows are what people really gravitate towards. Also politically I think it paints a pretty awesome picture of why the empire rose.
Whereas the George Lucas Films feel more like a movie following main characters and its more about this path of growth, discovery, and redemption. Not much about world building I feel. You have an ultimate good vs. an ultimate evil and not much else. Sure you have the rebels but howany do we actually get to know?
Sequel area is pure garbage and has nothing to do with Lucas.
Prequel era had so much more and more specifically, Lucas himself took a very much hands on approach for that lore. That does not mean he was involved in every single thing, but he did help guide the direction to ensure it maintained consistency with his vision
Why even bring this up but to fish conflict then just talk about the video ????
I love star wars so freaking much the prequels are also one My favorite era l rewatch star wars everyday including the movies and the clone wars đ
My favorite era, thanks to the CWMMP and the late 90's Star Wars comics.
The Open Seasons comic, jango's back story, genuinely made me tear up at moments, there's so much pain and loss in his life that he tried to both shield boba from, but harden him for it too.
23:09 That's such an accurate description đ
Great but can you denote this is about Star Wars: Legends (the superior Star Wars)? Makes it easier for us EU fans to spread the word and share videos like yours
This era is so kino tbh
Man, this is some great work youâve done. So appreciated.
Iâm fairly new to the story; Iâve heard about the Trade Federation, but only in the abstract. You providing some more insight and information on there reason for being has piqued my interest. I like learning more about the politics, commerce and trade, economics, and corporate power structures that exist within the Universe. It really helps with understanding how and why certain events happen, and how and why people and organizations respond.
Broo I just started the video and 1st time on your channel but the battlefront loading noises/intro cut scene is GENUIS
That sounded a lot more interesting than what we got on film.
Oh wow, Iâd love to read/watch/listen to the backstories regarding Starkâs agents planting the navi virus in the OSRF ships. Visualizing the special effects of starships exiting hyperspace into the inside of a planet (if thatâs how SW hyperspace works) or into a planet, and ESPECIALLY into the inescapable maw of a black hole would be so good.
A story from the perspective of the ship and crew that dropped into the black hole would be riveting. Maybe Iâll write one :). Iâm envisioning something akin to a massive submarine being pulled ever so slowly beyond its crush depth.
So much motivation to learn Blender, too. An animation would be soâŠcaptivating.
Isnât there a new Star Wars video game that is being planned to be developed based on this concept, about 40 to 80 years before the prequels? I think it would make a great RPG
Ngl, it is criminal neither lucas nor Disney has fleshed this period out more. Like that entire century leading up to it, give me more! lol
Nah, both would have probably done it worse than Legends.
I really want more official media covering this era because it is so interesting.
Love the videos thank you for the comprehensive breakdowns!
17:45 Mario "Mama mia!"
Definitely need more details
Love this channel. Itâs very draining, however, to have to sift through all the Star Wars haters. I really wish people that just hate Star Wars would stop watching it so we donât have to endlessly listen to them complain.
I really wish people would stop wanting to make stories for this specific pre-Prequel era. It just feels nicely fleshed out already, while other eras like what happened between the Battles of Yavin and Hoth in Legends are surprisingly still not mapped out properly yet; it really feels confusing as to finding out when the Classic Star Wars newspaper comics, the first Rogue Squadron game, the last two X-Wing flight sim expansion packs, the Empire and Rebellion comics, and a select few Marvel 1977 comics issues exactly happen?
amazing video friend, thank you so much.
Xanatos! Xanatos! Xanatos!
I loved that guy.
Now y'all gotta make a video of the decade in-between TPM and AoC when Attack of the Clones reaches it's 25 year anniversary
It is nor forgotten some of the best books take place during that era
I feel like one of my songs might have made it into this video lol. around 3:04. It's nice to see though that others are using magix music maker to make their music for their vids. But it's so close to my song Arrival that it threw me for a loop in some ways. Had to replay and gotta say, the guy who did the song did a great job!
Itâs somewhat ironic that both the Trade Federation worked with the Jedi at some point before considering the later events that happened
Excellent. Thanks.
I would love to see more videos like this!
Great video
Sounds like jango needs his own movie
This channel is goated â€ïž
A little constructive criticism; that background music is overbearing to your taking.
If Tenebrous and Plagueis were alive then?......
Then YES, that era was better!
The actual Expanded Universe has no equal. Especially what Disney is vomiting out. The audio books are very well done .
So, you're going to identify more with works that allegorical to the issues of your lifetime. Basically, you'll like the stories that you were made for you growing up and learning self through escapism is how stories do. The new EU is more tailored to the younger generation growing up and their issues so it might be bad for you, but those kids probably feel the same way you did when you read the EU stuff when you were younger.
@@MeanderingSlacker nope. A good story is a good story period. I don't care what generation it is. Why do you think A Night before Christmas is remade year after year? The Hobbit have been popular since it came out, Characters like Sherlock Holmes have spanned generations and never gets old. The new EU is crap because they don't worry about plot or character development. Just like in the movies or TV shows their putting out. They just drop bread crumbs, nostalgia and Easter eggs enough for people to stay interested and be very disappointed in the end. The story line of Rey and the other characters are just recycled from the original movies and not very well.. Get it? Disney is too lazy to come up with new stuff. So if that what kids are getting. It's not about a solid saga anymore. It's how much hype can be generated . Look how marvel movies\tv are dropping . same old tired stuff.
Plagueis Jango, and Tarkin have great stories and id love to flesh out jedi knight dooku
This was sweet. Do other eras.đ
I would love a video of the events that led to Episode 2 or one from 4 to 5
Truly glorious
What an amazing time period (between 67-32 BBY.) it was I wonder what would one call this time period at least In-universe?
This story is what should be told next. Fascinating and so relevant to real world events (unfortunately).
You should have gone in more depth of shadow warrior that was an awsome book
If possible would you be able to include the related sources I love the plagueis novel and would like to expand my pre prequel knowledge
Shame this is legend material
A bit too early to talk about the High Republic stuff since the third phase of the books is still ongoing and The Acolyte comes out next month
Thank you for this video I've always wanted to know but too lazy to read lmao đ€Ł
What's the song that starts playing at 38:30?
I was expecting it to be about between episodes 1 and 2
Acolyte writers need to be watching Geetsly's
Yes 45 years before the phantom menace
I hope The Acolyte creators have been studying up
Spoiler alert: they donât care.
The sequel era should be forgotten entirely.
So this is mostly Legends? Not that I think it's heavy on Disney canon, but I am curious if it contains any combined details.
I think itâs all legends
Plo koon goated
Glory Count Dooku! Glory the CIS!
"the prequel era is one of our favorite eras of Star Wars."
Yeah but isn't that more out of default?
?
Who is we? Not me
đ
Music quieter next time please
There are so many bots in the comments.. Interesting video as always.
Ikr. Why don't they stay in their own fucking porn sites.
The background music is a little bit distractingly loud on this video.
Can Geetsly Do one video without using the term 'Vast swath'? đ€Łđ€Ł
The Ruusan Republic.
Misanthropist or misanthrope?
we haven't forgotten, also i will never forget how much you all hated the prequels until the sequels came out.
The only reason the prequils seem good is because of how much worse the Disney stuff is. It's only through comparison that trash that they seem good.
I have the power to make this video 1.6 K likes lol
đ the most forgotten part of star wars is the entire Disney version of the universe. Its not by accident either quit making crap and maybe people will want to watch đ€·ââïž
Cal Kestis is best Jedi and time period.
Intrusive background music and ads every five minutes.
No disrespect, but speak for yourself.
We didn't forget it because not everyone knew about it and that's because it prob wasn't that good.
Prequel era > than original trilogy. Greasy neckbeards get off on the old Saber duels. They were reminiscent of a Betty white knife fight. I'm grateful that mess finally made sense after the phantom menace
