"This is now my winter Bentley". That's got to be the most aristocratic phrase of the year
IKR Imagine saying yes, this is the winter beater and it's a freaking Bentley
Sounds a lot happier than 'sunk cost fallacy'
You have to have a Winter Bentley when you already own a Bentley Convertible, which is naturally a Summer Bentley.
Yeah, having two Bentleys for the appropriate seasons is probably the most 1st world thing I've heard so far...
I thought everyone had a Winter Bentley. Guess I need to get out more.
Bentley should put a *Depreciation Gauge* on the dashboard right next to the tachometer. It would have to be something like a calendar / odometer combo gauge, with a dollar figure overlay, so you could see just how much value your new Bentley is losing with every passing mile, and every passing day. This gauge would run continually in the background, so that when you get into the vehicle after a prolonged absence, it would be able to tell you exactly how much less it is worth since the last time you drove it. I would also suggest that they include a *Doomsday / Sunset* feature with the depreciation gauge, (they could market it as a package!). This feature would activate when the car has achieved *maximum worthlessness* , which can best be described as the point where it would make more sense financially to have it crushed and made into a coffee table, than it would to replace the carbon ceramic brakes.
And after every 100 miles the Price is Right wa wa wa wa waaaaaaaahhh music plays.
This is BRILLIANT!
You have to warn people not to be eating or drinking when reading this. Absolutely freaking hilarious! 😂😂
absolutely hilarious
Oh, that's pretty easy, just look at the odometer and multiply each mile by $20! IE, 1000 mi = $20,000. Seems about right to me. Tyler even said so. But I'm wrong . . . that's just for repairs.
I almost bought a Turbo R for 39K 3 Months ago. The Interior is so beautiful. Its like falling in love with a hooker.
Decided on a boat instead. Phew :)
Congrats... At least a boat will give you TWO happy days!

You know what they say about British cars "if there is no oil on the ground underneath them, there is no oil in them"
Very true
😮 😮 😮
😮 😮 😮
That's how the German spotter planes found the British submarines...they merely followed the trail of diesel oil on the surface.
same with bmws haha
@14:34 He switched on the AC and I thought I was connecting to AOL.

It's the screams of all the tortured souls who assembled it originally and maintained it over the years.
That's it!! First generation telematics!!
You've got fail.
It needed to connect to dial-up internet in order to download and unleash some ghastly screeches lol
I have a 96 Brooklands I've owned for 8 years. I've spent $22k on various repairs since I bought it and that's me doing most of the work. I just completed a 2,500 road trip and it was perfect. It has never let me down. Unfortunately the two main problems with these cars is either they are neglected because owners don't have the desire or funds to maintain them or the people working on them are completely clueless. Even Rolls/Bentley dealers are not interested or knowledgeable about working on these antiques, I already found that out. Anyone can buy an old Bentley, they're cheap but running it is the trick. If you want one, buy the best and either learn to fix it yourself or find a good mechanic who wont charge you an arm and leg. They are built like any classic British car, very simple but labor intensive. I've lost my patience many times on this car while doing a particular repair but the secret is to walk away calm down start again and stay focused. Easier said than done!
Look at his service records. The basic problem with these cars is that they are junk. Their systems are Rube Goldberg "engineering" exercises.
@JAWSDAKILLER Actually I have a 1988 420 SEL and it has been VERY reliable. I bought it with 144K miles and now have 320K miles...great car. Maintenance is not bad. The thing's a beast. You MUST have a great mechanic, however...they will SAVE you money.
@JAWSDAKILLER Man older Mercedes, especially the diesels, were fuckin solid as hell! Those things ran forever and a day. I think people crushed them just because they got scared they would be stuck with that one car the rest of their lives. Since they usually go until the car doesn't make sense to be repaired anymore and the only way to do that was to crush it lol.
Very simple?! How is that engine bay simple? Or that mechanical fuel injection? Or the hydraulic system? It's anything but simple!
Have you seen a Trabant? Now that's simple! :D
Yep, like I said: join the RROC first; then start looking for a car.
When Hoovie sees his bentley: 😓
When wizards sees a bentley:🤑
it never ceases to amaze me these cars are so expensive new and turn into absolute piles of sh*t
They overcharge for parts and labour, so people can't afford, or refuse, to be held hostage to repair them regularly or properly. They they were more reliable though, this wouldn't really be an issue.
BMW, Mercedes and Audi also. Engine and electrical issues are ridiculous

"A really bad Maaco Paint job"
.....
"This next video is brought to you by Maaco!"
Well, Tyler's Maaco paint jobs actually have been pretty good. Just don't let his daughter pick the colour for the Bentley....
It depends on the shop of course but also the level you want to pay for. You can get a good job out of the budget job but have to basically prep/mask it yourself.
you have to do the prep; Maaco paint is actually pretty good.

A proper paint correction on the Turbo R will make it look brand new. The Azure is fantastic in a lot of ways, but I think the R is cooler. Get it polished up, fix the leak, and maybe get some newer generation wheels on it and you'll probably want to drive it more.

Thanks Tyler. You have absolutely convinced me to never own... BMW, Mercedes or Bentley. I was never going to do that anyways but you have driven the point home. My one flirt with this type of car was owning a beautiful example of a 1987 Jag XJ6. Not a scratch on it or a mark on the leather or wood. It could not pass a Jag dealer without turning in for another $1k repair. It often left me stranded. I never drove it in the winter but it still rusted through in multiple places. The Bosch gar-ba-G-tronic mechanical fuel injection is a major reason why the European specialty shop I used to work for had a pretty firm rule of "1996 or newer only." It is such an over complicated system, and there was no reason for it to survive for as long as it did. There were good electronic fuel injection systems widely available in the early 1980s (some available even earlier than that) on cars much less expensive than this, yet some manufacturers like Mercedes, RR and Bentley kept using the garbagetronic will into the 90s.
The hydraulic system was just complicated for the sake of being complicated, and in my opinion, downright dangerous. Having so many vehicle systems that are integral for maintaining vehicle control (brakes, steering and suspension) controlled off of one massively over-complicated hydraulic system was/is idiotic.
I had that same Turbo R but a 1990. That car was always breaking down on me.. but now I found out that it had to do something with the battery in the alarm system under the dash..( I found out after I sold it from the Wizard on CZcams)
My black paint however was awesome and deep so I think all you need is a detail on that. It is very good paint. I honestly think the trouble with most of these cars are that they sit too much. They must be driven every week for at least 20 mi at one time to exercise them out. I have owned four rolls or Bentleys over the last 35 years.. and honestly had very little trouble with them, because I drove them weekly. Out of the Shadow, Spur, Arnage and Turbo R... it was the Turbo R that was the more trouble.. Greg in California

Always loved the shape of the Turbo R. So classy and clean.
THE BIGGEST REASON YOU DO NOT WANT TO GET RID OF THESE 2 CARS IS ALL ABOUT THE COMFORTABLE RIDE THAT HARDLY CAN BE MATCHED BY NOT TOO MANY CARS
The ride is absolute heaven particularly when stationary.
Note to self: never *ever* buy a Bentley.
Hey Tyler, trade them both in for a Maybach 62 with the divider between the front and rear seats, I would love to see some content on those cars.
There is an easy solution for this car. It's transmission is the lynch pin of the plan. It's a 4L80e. If I had that car the most important thing would be the body and interior. I would strip it down. Swap in a Chevrolet V8 to the transmission. I'd remove the hydraulic suspension and switch either to a modern self leveling air suspension or a steel spring suspension. I'd rewire everything and replace anything bespoke or expensive with cheap, readily available GM or Ford components. It would be as easy as maintaining a HD gas GM pickup truck when I was done with it. It would just have a cool body and interior.
Honestly Tyler, you only have 3 options: sell it with the caveats and link your videos about it in the description, keep it and sink more money into a car that you can't find anything you like about it, or junk it.
