I have that problem of not being able to stop thinking about things, replaying events in my mind, etc. A technique I've played with for years is "zapping" thoughts - interrupting my thoughts as soon as I feel them start by imagining a buzzer/zapping noise or similar. If done right I can fall asleep or at least go into a dreamlike state in minutes. The trick is to zap as soon as possible, before the thoughts are even fully formed. It could use a bit more refinement as a process but it's definitely a useful tool.

I have a major problem with this technique here. I always sleep on my sides, never on my back. Even if I tried to relax every muscle while I'm on my back, I can't sleep until I roll over to one side, and that will undo every effort of my trying to tell my muscles to sleep. If you're on your side, there are certain muscles that you cannot relax, like your jaws against the pillow. I have always been a light sleeper because of this, and I would very much appreciate if someone can put me into deep sleep without the help of alcohol.

To make sure to wake up, once you wake up LEAVE THE ALARM GOING, instead go for the glass or bottle of water you would've placed before falling asleep, it might not work for the first time but after a bit it should work. After drinking, stand up THEN you can turn your alarm off, hope this helped Xx

Tbh mental and physical relaxation you presented plays big part in meditation. That's why I used to fall asleep when I try to meditate during night.
Background noise is very helpful especially if you live in louder envirnoment, however it's better to only set it for how long you need it to fall asleep.
Also "getting rid of thoughts" rarely helps hyperactive people, better suggestion for them (which worked for me) is ignoring thoughts and not indulging in them, just let them appear and dissapear. Focusing too much, (especially if you are bad at it) on throwing thoughts to trash can may be annoying. Which is the last thing you want to feel befor sleeping lol
Otherwise great video, looking forward to the another

@@NurseSarahJeffries A weird thing I've found recently (I'm a hyperactive person) is when I have countless unorganized thoughts I sing something really catchy, that's really lively(that's important, because sad catchy songs can cause deppressive mood, and ruin your sleep). I use baby shark, because it's psychologically ultra-catchy, and it's fast to finish until the end(finishing the entire thing is also really important, otherwise you start an endless loop of your favorite part of the song). Hope this helps some other crazy hyperactive insomniac like myself. ❤

Hi. I am 84 days sober after 40 years of drinking every night. The insomnia is the worst. Dreadful. 3 hrs a night at most. I have tried everything. It’s a withdrawal symptom. I gave up cold turkey and after seeing my doctor he advised that this is not the best way but to give up gradually. Best to speak to people. Try this but dubious.

@@johnrichards4097thanks John and hope you can get thru this. Good advise. Just went Sun,Mon,Tue and no sleep. I felt like the walking dead at work. Will try to cut back from 750mL every night to a 375mL and then with any luck, i can trade down to a 200mL. All the best,Buddy

Listen guys. None of this works, I have tried all videos on youtube..
Here’s what works for me, and it has been a long project to get there.
    1. Maybe this step can be skipped?
Get a good bedroom speaker, with no low volume noise (like the sony srs xb43). Play some low music with monotone beats, like some sci fi game soundtracks, or some other thing instrumental.
    2. Make the room as dark as possible. Then start by laying with your eyes open in the dark, so the body can see that it is night.. Don’t close your eyes to begin with, because you body will know it’s dark because your eyes are closed. Open eyes in the dark, will convince the body that it is night. Do this for 10 minutes or so, and you should start feeling the eyes getting heavier.
    3. While doing this try and think about things that you CANT do at this point.
If you think of things you CAN do (like get up and go to the refrigerator, or get up and watch tv), your mind will not relax. Think of something else, like a vacation you look forward to, or an upcoming party, or going to the gym next day.. something you can’t get up and do. That will calm your mind, because it is not stressing over if you should get up or not to do that thing, because you CANT.. Make sense?
    4. A good way to stop unwanted thoughts, or your mind running wild with thoughts, is to use the 1-2 strategy.. So to stop your thoughts, start by counting 1 and 2 as you breath. When inhaling you say 1 in your head, when exhaling you say 2 in your head. Repeat this till the thought are gone. It shouldn’t take long. Keep doing this to prevent unwanted thoughts. Try and imagine the numbers too, like visualize them as you count, 1,2 - 1,2 - 1,2 and so on.
    4. Lay on your back while doing all this, without moving, as long as you can.
    5. Then turn to your most comfortable position, close your eyes, and keep counting to keep the thoughts in check.
    6. If you are not getting any progress after 30 min or so, then get up, do something else for 30-60 minutes or so. And then get back to bed and try again. It beat laying in bed for 6 hours tumbling and turning. Just get up, if it doesn’t work. And some days, it just doesn’t work 🤷
This has really started to work for me. And I’ve had sleep problems as long as I can remember, and I’m 44 now.
And also, go to bed around 8 hours before you need to get up. Don’t stay up too late (you know who you are). If you go to bed too late, you will just stress out even more if you can’t fall asleep, and your mind will start to stress as you see the hours flying by without progress. Get to bed earlier so you have some wiggle room if the technique fails the first time.
And as with all things, this will take some practice to get used to, but hopefully it will turn into a good routine after some time 🙂
    I hope this helps..
