I guess you don't realize titanium dioxide is not only a carcinogen but if you research it you'll find it also says it changes your DNA. This ingredient is in all sorts of food and soap shampoo all kinds of things and it should be illegal it is illegal in many nations. People don't seem to care what things are on their ingredient list but after I looked up what it is, & began reading the ingredient labels on everything, I found this cancer causing, DNA altering substance in 90% of everything from soaps to ice cream. I made this recipe, and it is my go to, I shared a bar with a family member and she loves it. I use our honey and wax from our hives. I shared a bar with my mom and her skin is not as dry as it use to be. Thank you so much for sharing. I doubled it so it last me longer. Amazing recipe for dry skin. I used bentonite clay and I didn't add the titanium dioxide. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, I appreciate it.
i just made this soap two nights ago and i i used the scraps from the slow cooker to take my bath that night, i loved the feel on my skin, especially the oats feel for exfoliation. Also, i tried something i learnt from kim at essential soap, i calculated it at 0% SF but added 6% cocoa butter of the total amount of oils as superfat after the cook, also split the batter and scented half with lavendar and tea tree EO, left the other part unscented. i love how you make soaping so simple, your videos thought me how to calculate recipes using soapcalc.net, also learnt how to line molds from you too. thanks Elly, God bless.
I made this soap and it turned out just exactly like your pictures it is the nicest soap only what I did was I let it cure for 6 weeks even though it was a hot process soap and it just made it heavenly
Lovely soap. I only cook mine for about 20 mins and it's done, have never used ph strips but do the 'zap' test then use a small piece to wash my hands. I also only mix to emulsification not trace but I know what you mean about fiddling with it haha. I always post your beginner soap making recipe for people that are wanting to learn.

Thank you so much for this tutorial!! I am a Newby at soap making and have only done cold process. This is so much easier. To be able to cut the fragrance in half is a huge blessing. I used the same recipe I used in cold process and this came out so much better. Can’t wait to unmold and cut!
It must be lovely being family or friends of yours - there is so much bounty emanating from your kitchen bench and table and you are always so sweet and positive about, well, everyday stuff. It's refreshing in our weird world at the moment. You always make me feel grounded in a positive way, and also of treading lightly on the planet. A good tip to keep it smooth and creamy consistency before you pour in the mold is to add some plain Greek yogurt that works wonders and it's good for your skin
@@elizastriunga265 you calculated into your super fats so instead of adding the goat's milk you would add yogurt or you can add a little bit of both and it depends on your batch size

i have read alot of articles for CP and now HP, but, during that time i have come back to your channel many many times to listen to your instructions for both soap making methods. took me 3wks to build the courage up to do CP and i have just completed my first HP with a dash of white colourant and johnsons baby powder fragrance. i seem to prefer this HP method because i am impatient - i was shocked how quickly it set up though. i'm stoked that i gave it a go, i like the idea of knowing what ingredients are going into the product that i make... now, more reading to find out more about the different properties of the ingredients i want to use. thank you for the informative content and keeping it simple look forward to new vids

Lovely video! Try adding 1/4 cup of yogurt to the soap at the vaseline stage. Stir, cover again and let sit 5 minutes. You'll have a much more fluid mixture at that point for molding....
Thank you Patti! I have a lot more to learn about hot-process soap making I think! I don't eat dairy foods - do you think non-dairy yoghurt would have the same effect? And why yoghurt in particular as opposed to other liquids?
Ok I see, well all yoghurt undergoes lactic acid bacterial fermentation - so in theory they should work! I make my own yoghurt and other fermented goodies. Plenty of lactic acid in my fridge! Though I'm not sure sauerkraut would be so great stirred through my soap ;) I had sodium lactate years ago but have never used it. I think it's gone now..

Yesterday I made your HP soap. I added orange blossom fragrance oil, because I didn't have a honey F.O., but I felt like it needed some nice scent. It came out gorgeously and smells like real orange blossom, which I love!!!!! It looks a bit different, but very artisan and I love it! Thank you for the recipe, Elly! :-)

I gave this a go last night due to cold process gone wrong! it turned out ok but not really a pretty sight in the mold. I have been most encouraged by yours and George's videos - thank you so much 🤎🤎
Brand new to beekeeping and looking for ways to use my beeswax and this is one way I can definitely use it but I think your wax was super dark cause they didn't clean the wax very much(wax always comes out dirty and you have to clean it several times to get the golden color)
It doesn't really take repeat cleaning - a couple of washes is good, as is filtering later on, but the most important part is to set your wax in a narrow container so you get a tall column when it's set - most of the grot will be at the bottom of the column, and you can simply slice it off and put that bit aside to reprocess later.

Thank you, yes, you can use a double boiler, or just use a large stainless steel pot on the stove! I do this, keep it on low heat and watch it. Very fast way to make HP soap :)

I.ve decided to start making my own soap and your videos are so inspiring. Even though you are saying that you don.t have too much experience I love the fact that you're organised and you explain everything so nicely. I am planning to create my first soap which hopefully will include goat's milk, turmeric & honey. In order to add goat's milk to a soap do I need to use the hot making process or the cold one should also work ? Thank you
Hi Alexandra, thanks for your feedback, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I have zero experience in making goats milk soap, but from what I know you can do either hot or cold process methods. I do know that any milk in soaps is usually used as a replacement for the water in the lye solution, and that you have to keep the milk and the lye solution very cool/cold while you mix them to prevent the milk going brown. You may want to do more research on the internet, there would be a lot of blog posts about it I'm sure! Best of luck, the tumeric and honey sounds like a nice combination! :)
I wasn't going to make my own soap, but I've become so picky (and frugal) it's becoming a necessity. I do like your presentation, and am drawn to the aloe soap, since it's easy to grow and I already have some aloe. Thanks very much..

Thank you. Yes, technically you can use it straight away, because the soap is fully cooked and saponified, but I like to leave my HP soaps to dry and harden for about a month so after I make them. They are still a bit soft for my liking when they're freshly made.
thanks for the instruction ...to make the top nice and flat you need 1 piece of plywood 1/4inch is good cut so that it fits into the mold now you need another piece of plywood that is about 3/4 inch thick and 1/2 inch larger all the way around the top of the mold ...now put the small piece on top of the larger piece allowing 1/2 inch all the way around and use epoxy glue 5 min is ok glue the 2 pieces together...now after you fill up the mold cover the soap with parchment paper fit the plywood on top insuring that the smaller piece is in the mold and not to hard, push down and lift out the plywood...not the top is flat allow to harden and wow flat all the way around.Do not leave the top on as it will take much longer to dry.

I don't take the temperatures, since it's hot process I just add them in hot or warm - it doesn't mater. I cooked on high initially, then once it really gets going turn it down to low.
Cold process soap is made with the ingredients just warm or at room temperature and the soap is emulsified and saponifies very slowly. Hot process, the soap is mixed then cooked to force the saponification reaction - so it becomes soap a lot sooner.
I'm going to try this recipe. You can add plain yogurt with bro biotics at end to make your soap more fluid so you can make a swirly top. 2-4 tablespoons. Happy soaping!
You can stick in freezer after you slice to harden quickly. And for colors you need to make your soap fluid(loose) to get it storable to add color. I'll send video link on CZcams to my page.
I wonder if I can add oats to cold process soap without them falling to the bottom. I don't have a crock pot but maybe one day I'll try hot process! Have you ever made liquid soaps? I enjoyed this video (and so did my partner who stopped his Xbox game to watch along as well :D)
Yes you can add oats to CP soap, just take it to a good medium trace and the oats won't sink. Yes, I have made liquid soaps but haven't done any videos on them yet. Maybe one day!

Hi Sarita, I like to leave them for about four weeks. All soaps are better with a drying period. It depends on how much water you use in your recipe though.
I was wondering, the lye solution seems to be “dangerous” since you’re wearing protection and everything. So is it safe after the soap making process ?
Hi, there is no soap without lye :). If you protect yourself and use the right methods it is safe, and the end result will be a skin friendly nice bar. :)

Thank you, yes you can use a ceramic crock pot. I'm not sure about other ceramic pots. You can also use a stainless steel pot on the stove on very low heat :)

Thank you, yes absolutely this recipe can be made with cold process, you just have to melt all of the oils and wax together first and make sure they are warm (but not too warm!) before you mix the lye in. Recipes with butters and waxes take a bit more care when making with cold process :)

i have read alot of articles for CP and now HP, but, during that time i have come back to your channel many many times to listen to your instructions for both soap making methods. took me 3wks to build the courage up to do CP and i have just completed my first HP with a dash of white colourant and johnsons baby powder fragrance. i seem to prefer this HP method because i am impatient - i was shocked how quickly it set up though. i'm stoked that i gave it a go, i like the idea of knowing what ingredients are going into the product that i make... now, more reading to find out more about the different properties of the ingredients i want to use. thank you for the informative content and keeping it simple look forward to new vids

Lovely video! Try adding 1/4 cup of yogurt to the soap at the vaseline stage. Stir, cover again and let sit 5 minutes. You'll have a much more fluid mixture at that point for molding....
Thank you Patti! I have a lot more to learn about hot-process soap making I think! I don't eat dairy foods - do you think non-dairy yoghurt would have the same effect? And why yoghurt in particular as opposed to other liquids?
@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking it's the lactic acid. I think sodium lactate will also work. Not sure about other non dairy yogurts...
Ok I see, well all yoghurt undergoes lactic acid bacterial fermentation - so in theory they should work! I make my own yoghurt and other fermented goodies. Plenty of lactic acid in my fridge! Though I'm not sure sauerkraut would be so great stirred through my soap ;) I had sodium lactate years ago but have never used it. I think it's gone now..

Yesterday I made your HP soap. I added orange blossom fragrance oil, because I didn't have a honey F.O., but I felt like it needed some nice scent. It came out gorgeously and smells like real orange blossom, which I love!!!!! It looks a bit different, but very artisan and I love it! Thank you for the recipe, Elly! :-)

Hi, and thank you! I always make sure it says '98' or 99% sodium hydroxide on the package when I buy my caustic soda. The other 1-2% is water!
Brand new to beekeeping and looking for ways to use my beeswax and this is one way I can definitely use it but I think your wax was super dark cause they didn't clean the wax very much(wax always comes out dirty and you have to clean it several times to get the golden color)

It doesn't really take repeat cleaning - a couple of washes is good, as is filtering later on, but the most important part is to set your wax in a narrow container so you get a tall column when it's set - most of the grot will be at the bottom of the column, and you can simply slice it off and put that bit aside to reprocess later.
Love how you keep everything clean and natural. The explanation is also very simple and not intimidating at all. Makes me want to try it.

Thank you, yes, you can use a double boiler, or just use a large stainless steel pot on the stove! I do this, keep it on low heat and watch it. Very fast way to make HP soap :)

I.ve decided to start making my own soap and your videos are so inspiring. Even though you are saying that you don.t have too much experience I love the fact that you're organised and you explain everything so nicely.
I am planning to create my first soap which hopefully will include goat's milk, turmeric & honey.
In order to add goat's milk to a soap do I need to use the hot making process or the cold one should also work ?

Hi Alexandra, thanks for your feedback, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I have zero experience in making goats milk soap, but from what I know you can do either hot or cold process methods. I do know that any milk in soaps is usually used as a replacement for the water in the lye solution, and that you have to keep the milk and the lye solution very cool/cold while you mix them to prevent the milk going brown. You may want to do more research on the internet, there would be a lot of blog posts about it I'm sure! Best of luck, the tumeric and honey sounds like a nice combination! :)
Turmeric is good for eczema also.
I wasn't going to make my own soap, but I've become so picky (and frugal) it's becoming a necessity. I do like your presentation, and am drawn to the aloe soap, since it's easy to grow and I already have some aloe. Thanks very much..

Thank you. Yes, technically you can use it straight away, because the soap is fully cooked and saponified, but I like to leave my HP soaps to dry and harden for about a month so after I make them. They are still a bit soft for my liking when they're freshly made.
thanks for the instruction ...to make the top nice and flat you need 1 piece of plywood 1/4inch is good cut so that it fits into the mold now you need another piece of plywood that is about 3/4 inch thick and 1/2 inch larger all the way around the top of the mold ...now put the small piece on top of the larger piece allowing 1/2 inch all the way around and use epoxy glue 5 min is ok glue the 2 pieces together...now after you fill up the mold cover the soap with parchment paper fit the plywood on top insuring that the smaller piece is in the mold and not to hard, push down and lift out the plywood...not the top is flat allow to harden and wow flat all the way around.Do not leave the top on as it will take much longer to dry.

May I ask at what temperature did you mix lye and oils? Also did you cook throughout in 'High' in the crockpot?'
I don't take the temperatures, since it's hot process I just add them in hot or warm - it doesn't mater. I cooked on high initially, then once it really gets going turn it down to low.

Cold process soap is made with the ingredients just warm or at room temperature and the soap is emulsified and saponifies very slowly. Hot process, the soap is mixed then cooked to force the saponification reaction - so it becomes soap a lot sooner.

A double boiler would be better, to ensure the heat doesn't get too high. I wouldn't leave it unattended either!
There is also an oven hot process soap. Just do a search for tutorials.

I'm going to try this recipe. You can add plain yogurt with bro biotics at end to make your soap more fluid so you can make a swirly top. 2-4 tablespoons.

You can stick in freezer after you slice to harden quickly. And for colors you need to make your soap fluid(loose) to get it storable to add color. I'll send video link on CZcams to my page.

Yes you can add oats to CP soap, just take it to a good medium trace and the oats won't sink. Yes, I have made liquid soaps but haven't done any videos on them yet. Maybe one day!
Molds might grow on the oats placed on top. It happened to my first batch of oatmeal coldprocessed soap.
I haven't had a problem with it, but I guess that could happen. Storing your soap in a dry, cool spot is important.

Hi Sarita, I like to leave them for about four weeks. All soaps are better with a drying period. It depends on how much water you use in your recipe though.
I was wondering, the lye solution seems to be “dangerous” since you’re wearing protection and everything.

Thank you, yes you can use a ceramic crock pot. I'm not sure about other ceramic pots. You can also use a stainless steel pot on the stove on very low heat :)

Thank you, yes absolutely this recipe can be made with cold process, you just have to melt all of the oils and wax together first and make sure they are warm (but not too warm!) before you mix the lye in. Recipes with butters and waxes take a bit more care when making with cold process :)
