I think Yuji's desire to give others a proper death parallels Sukuna's way of showing love. Sukuna said he shows love or acknowledges others' strength by giving them an opportunity to fight him to their fullest.
Indeed, I can't stop thinking about how Sukuna gives weirdly peaceful deaths to those that he acknowledges: Jogo, Gojo, Kashimo, all three fights end with a nice dreamlike scene and even Yorozu states that she is happy when dying. There's definitely a deeper relationship between souls, curses and death, we can only speculate but Gege has been cooking something since chapter 1 and I can't wait to see it!
