    What is the math behind his that makes it work? I realize that it is the cutting and positioning of the jokers, but how does it work? difference of 9 from 52 is 43 and diff of 9+25 from 52 is 18. Is it just that the card "cut midway through establishes a consistent distance from the chosen card based on their order?

  • @nolanmattingly8490
    @nolanmattingly8490 Před 6 lety +11

    i get the splits, but i dont understand how the cards your spectator chooses end up next to the two jokers to end up in the 18th and 43rd position. do you have to stop the deck right past the joker when they are choosing their cards?

    • @TocoaPuffs
      @TocoaPuffs Před 3 lety +3

      No, since you broke the deck at the card selection you'll have the numbers from the jokers counted out. There's probably some simple number theory behind it, but it likely has something to do with 18+25=43.
      There are 18 cards between the jokers and the first joker is 43 cards from the bottom of the deck.
      The rearranging of the cards moves the selected cards into the 18th and 43rd spot as long as they were selected in the section between the jokers and after the second joker.

  • @asterladybug
    @asterladybug Před 4 lety +23

    for those who want the math behind it:
    The original pack has (from top to bottom, packs indicated by the brackets)
    (9 cards + Joker + X cards + card A) + ( Y cards + Joker + Z cards + card B) + (Rest)
    After splitting the pack in 3, the order of the two top packs are reversed so you get (from top to bottom):
    (Y cards + Joker + Z cards + card B) + (9 cards + Joker + X cards + card A) + (Rest)
    The Jokers then split the pack in three again, and the order of the bottom two packs are reversed this time so you get (from top to bottom):
    (Y cards) + (X cards + card A + Rest) + (Z cards + card B + 9 cards)
    As there were 18 cards between the two Jokers, X +Y +1 = 18 so the position of card A is the 18th (X+Y=17).
    position of card B is above 9 cards from the bottom. As 52-9 = 43, it is in the 43rd position
    Obviously, this only works if card A is chosen between the two Jokers' positions.

    Ok so great explanation but you overlooked one thing.
    The direction of the card spread.
    If you spread right to left you need to pick up the right packet to place onto the middle one then the left.
    If you spread left to right like I do, you do left then right.
    Easy to remember but might be tripping a few people up

    when you do the trick, the 9 cards above the first joker will eventually become the bottom 9 cards. All the times you change the order will make it so that, wherever you split the card, you rearrange the top half to be below the bottom half. Let's say you split 7 (a1) cards after the 1st joker and 13 (b1) cards passed the 2nd joker. After the 2 order changes, the 7 (a1) cards will be below the rest of the 11 (a2) cards, (2nd joker was 18 cards passed 1st joker, 18 - 7 = 11), the 13 (b1) cards will be after the 12 (b2), (25 cards after 2nd joker, 25 - 13 = 12). The final ordering of the cards always being 11 (a2), 7 (a1), 12 (b2), 13 (b1), 9 where a1 + a2 is always 18, b1 + b2 is always 25 (18 + 25 = 43) and the top 9 cards always end up on the bottom.

      Magiccollmen 66 No, to become a better magician, you do not put requests in comment sections asking someone to reveal a trick. An experienced magician knows that you have to create your own tricks. Sure, learning a trick can get you familiar with sleights, but it's better to just learn the sleights themselves. Because if you understand how magicians are supposed to interact with each other respectfully, you know to not reveal another magician's trick. (or call a fellow magician a "pussy").

It's BORING. That just gives me the idea whatever tricks you are doing or do in the future is nothing but small and boring tricks, no one would be interested in "magic" anymore.

      @Eastonfection Před 6 lety +2

      +Han Li penn and teller built a career around showing people that it's all tricks. If you find it boring to know how it's done, don't watch. Some of us find it more fascinating to know and not try to convince ourselves that magic is real. The act is what sells a trick... not the trick itself.

      A good trick, done well, knowing how it is done does not matter. Your premise otherwise would mean that magicians don't like magic because its boring because they know how its done...and yet, magicians watch other's acts all the time. Knowing how something is done, does not ruin it, if its done well....you know you can appreciate a good pass in a race, but yet you still know how to pass a car and go around a corner yourself?

      I'm gonna say 3 things, and then stop replying to this chain...
      1. I've got literally no idea what you're meaning to say with that last comment, you're stating ignorance isn't bliss, but also saying that people should be ignorant to traditional english grammar rules.
      2. I don't think you know what a 3rd world country is, very few people in third world countries would have access to a computer, and thus would find it hard to comment on a card trick video, which is in full english. I'm also unsure whether or not you're being racist, by calling the original commenter a "3rd world peasant" because of his profile picture. Or if you're calling me a "3rd world peasant," which would mean that you're confused about the difference between 3rd, and 1st world countries.
      3.Finish 2nd grade english before threatening to "destroy the lack of intelligence" someone has, and while you're at it, finish 4th grade geography so you don't get your countries mixed up in the future.
