  • How to treat Sever's Disease.
    In this video Dr. Mikkel Jarman discusses the treatment of Sever's Disease, also referred to as calcaneal apophysitis, and the difference between Acute Sever's Disease, and Chronic Sever's Disease. The type of Sever’s disease your child has determines the methods required to treat it.
    Acute Sever's will generally resolve on its own, or respond well to conservative treatments
    Chronic Sever's, on the other hand, is more difficult to treat, does not respond well to conservative treatments, and will usually require custom orthotics and a pediatric night splint is also recommended.
    This is video #2 of a 2 part series titled, "Sever's Disease - What Every Parent Should Know"

    (The Mikki Device™ custom orthotic mentioned in this video is now available online and can be ordered here: mikkidevice.com/)
    The Mikki Device™ is the exact custom orthotic used by Dr. Jarman with Pediatric Foot & Ankle to successfully treat Chronic Sever's in 97% of his patients seen for Sever's. The complete treatment is the combination of the Mikki Device™ custom shoe insert (worn in the day) and a pediatric night boot (worn at night) that together resolve even the most difficult cases of Sever's in 4 to 8 weeks.

    While preparing to do my weekly blog on the topic of Severs disease I came across your video. I just wanted to say this is a well done video and I concur with the your approach to treating Severs disease. I find myself frustrated with the many parents I see whose child is suffering from this and they have been trying heel cushions anti-inflammatories stretching and the pain persists. My primary go to is orthotics and with very few exceptions they have fast relief and elimination of the heel pain

      Hi Will, yes, the Mikki Device™ Sever's Solution is now available worldwide. Dr. Jarman was very involved in the development of this Sever's disease solution and has always advocated that it should be available across the world and without a prescription.
      To learn more or order, visit: mikkidevice.com/
      I am not sure about how long shipping to the UK is, but I know it ships and is delivered in the US in 3 to 5 business days. There is a "Questions?" button on the website. Maybe they can help answer that question.
      Hope that helps.

    I have had severs for almost a year and have not been able to play soccer, it really upsets me that I can’t play soccer, I’ve hade orthotics in my shoes for over a month and a half. Should I get a boot on or should I keep stretching and having the inserts?

    • @PediatricFootAnkle
      @PediatricFootAnkle  Před 3 lety

      Hi Sean, we're sorry to hear the shoe inserts and stretching haven't helped you as was expected. A proper shoe insert that is custom-made from a mold of your foot specifically would be what we recommend.
      Because of cases like yours, Dr. Jarman has designed and provides custom Sever's shoe inserts molded specifically from his patients' feet that have a remarkable success rate.
      He is making these available to the public and is accepting orders or questions if you visit pediatricfootankle.com/foot-conditions/pediatric-heel-pain/ and search towards the bottom for "Mikki Device" you will see a sentence that reads, "To learn more or preorder: How do I get the Mikki Device?"
      The mold is sent to you with instructions and return postage.
      Hope that helps,

    Just a question for the inserts will I have to wear them until the pain goes away or will I have to wear them forever including weeding them during sports

    • @PediatricFootAnkle

      The Mikki Device orthotics noted in the video are designed to address the issue with the growth plate. The duration of use will be related to your growth rate. Utilizing during sports activities is recommended.

    Hello I’m 14 . 15 in September so I wonder if I have this. It started at 13 and I only wonder if I have this . Otherwise I thought it was insertional Achilles tendinitis but sometimes the pain comes higher up on the Achilles’ tendon but the most significant is by the heel. I’m not really sure and I’m aware you can’t diagnose me based off this but do you have an idea? If not severs is it definitely Achilles tendinitis or are there similar pains

    • @PediatricFootAnkle
      @PediatricFootAnkle  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for your comments, without a physical exam of your foot and x-rays its going to be real hard to help you. One of the things I would want to rule out is a bone cyst, its just not normal to have achilles tendon insertional pain in a child/ young adult. Unless you are a competitive athlete that has injured themselves. I hope this helps. Dr. Jarman

    I think my child has chronic severs. She is a competitive gymnast. If she is able to get a Mickeys device from her doctor. Do you think she can wear it like a heel cup? Or only in shoes? She has been wearing heel cups for over 8 weeks with no help. We ice, Motrin, rest, and stretch. We took 6 weeks off and as soon as she started hitting vault again it came back. It is now affecting both heels but mainly one. I am at such a loss. She loves this sport so much. Idk how to help her any more than I already have tried.

      Hi Agustin, thanks for the comment. I believe you are referring to shoe inserts and that the one you have may be specifically for flat feet. Different inserts and custom orthotics treat different conditions.
      It's not officially open to the public yet, but we have been taking some preorders for our new Mikki Device which is a custom shoe insert orthotic specifically for Sever's disease, and has a 92% success rate of completely resolving the issue and 100% success rate for dramatic improvement.
      If you visit pediatricfootankle.com/foot-conditions/pediatric-heel-pain/ and search towards the bottom for "Mikki Device" you will see a sentence that reads, "To learn more or preorder: How do I get the Mikki Device?"

      Hi Jesus, you can order the Mikki Device Sever's Solution kit here: mikkidevice.com/.
      The kit will come with simple step-by-step instructions on how to obtain the impression of your child's foot, and paid return shipping to the lab where it is fabricated. Once the custom orthotics are made, they will be shipped back to you and ready to wear. There is also a night splint included with the kit that the child wears at night, and it is this combination approach that achieves the best results in the least amount of time.
      Hope that helps!

      @PediatricFootAnkle  Před 2 lety

      Hello, thank you for your comment and question. Because you are 15, it is very unlikely you have Sever's, most likely you have a bone contusion or a soft tissue ligament injury. My recommendation would be off-loading in a walking boot for a couple of weeks, it may also be a good idea to see a provider for an x-ray. Hope that this helps. - Dr. Jarman.
