  • We review the new 2021 Chevy Blazer RS, a classic nameplate plastered on a not so classic body. To understand this, we dig a bit deeper to discuss the pros and cons. While it makes sense to look at the used market, the Blazer has to many things at many prices. The problem is always competition, there are other SUVs like the Kia Sorento, Mazda CX5, Toyota RAV4, Honda CRV, and Ford Bronco that make the Chevy a hard choice

I see they deleted the aluminized coating on the exhaust. It's 409 stainless so it won't rust through, but it looks like crap. Ford did that as a cost reduction in the early 2000s on the F150, saving about $5 per truck. Then customers complained about their tailpipes rusting on a nearly new truck, so they added it back on as a warranty save. But it cost more than $5 to put back on 🤣

The Japanese and Koreans have finally caught on to what the Germans and other European manufacturers figured out a long time ago; people want nice, comfortable, even semi-luxurious interiors. GM and Ford have yet to figure this out. Detroit Tigers stadium ( see link below) had 6 of them on display until they found out they are made in mexico and had them removed from the property. Also the 3.6L has class action lawsuit on them, for timing chains stretching out due to lack of lubrication . The known issue with GM 3.6L v6 engines get 10K+ miles on them and they start sledging up because of the lubrication feed & drainage holes being too small. They still haven't fixed the problem in the 2021s, and now with oil changes they are being told to put in oil-flush before doing an oil change to attempt to get out the sludge build up. ( I know a service manager at a GMC/Buick dealer who even says " Buy a Ford, not this crap ) He also said that GM has told dealerships were told to start stocking the 3.6L V6 engines for quicker engine swaps under warranty & prioritize warranty swaps over non-warranty swaps. www.thedrive.com/news/27237/gm-pulls-mexican-built-chevy-blazer-from-detroit-tigers-stadium-after-uaw-workers-backlash

@@smack9x Are you kidding me? Go watch TFL's video with the rav off road. They tried the blazer and it shit the bed. We had a road washout near my rural home. The alternate route include another washed out road that was not maintained. Total shit hole. I was watching big brand new F350s puncture oil pans/need to be pulled out going ahead of me. Took my Rav slowly and cleared it just fine with guidance.

@@jg1093 Just because you got through a tad bit of mud isn't saying much. No one is running the Rav4 off road. It has no off road capability. it was a complete failure in TFL "truck" test. They had to run aftermarket tires/wheels and go alternative paths because it kept getting stuck with its low ride height. If someone is buying a vehicle to go off road this is the last thing they will pick.

We bought a new Blazer 2L with the 308 hp V-6 engine. We tested several other vehicles of which the Toyota Highlander was a total disappointment due to excessive road noise and the Subaru Forester lacking in carrying capacity and engine power. After one year of ownership we can find nothing to be a disappointment in this vehicle. It gets respectable mileage at 24.5 MPG overall. We got this vehicle for under $33K out the door and think it a very good value for all the features and functions inherent in this car. I am 6' tall and can get in and out of it without folding myself up to do so.

In my fairly small town there are three dealers - Ford, Toyota and Chevrolet. Anything else I would consider is a 30 mile to 65 mile drive away. That may not sound like much, but when you're dropping off a car for warranty service and you have to leave it all day or several days, its a p.i.t.a.. Basically, you've got to get either a loaner (if they have one) or a rental. So, its down to those three for me and really none of them are my favorites. That's why I might consider a Blazer as Paul said "if" they would heavily discount it.

Made in USA, 4.0L V6, shift on the fly four-wheel drive, fully boxed frame, Dana rear axle, Spicer transaxle, great stereo, a beast in freezing cold snowstorms or Las Vegas summers, only two small warranty issues now at 75,000 miles.

I just picked up a 2020 Acadia AT4 for my wife to haul the kids, the price was right and I like the styling. The 3.6 (now LGX) is a great a motor really. Earlier generations had some issues with timing chains, but the main culprit was low oil levels. If you take care of your vehicles and do regular maintenance, you'll be fine. My biggest concern with the 3.6 was direct-injection and planned on moving my catch can over from my Silverado I traded in. However, I was impressed to read that GM introduced a two-stage oil separator in the LGX. Based on what I've read from guys who installed a catch can on the LGX, it doesn't even catch anything because GM's system removes virtually all contaminants.
The 9-speed transmission with the 3.6 is a great pairing... it gets up and moving quickly for an SUV. The shifts are extremely smooth on the 9-speed too.
