Sky Watch has triggered a Colin Levy binge, so enjoying this.
The 2011 made watched in 2019 or almost 2020 feels crisply made then its a job well done.
Just as a bit of background,
As a child at the ripe old age of four, my uncle gave to me a book about planes of all shapes and sizes. It is probably one of the most pivotal presents that anyone has ever given to me and I loved that book to pieces (literally).
From that day forward, I knew I was going to be a pilot. I read everything I could about airplanes. I watched shows about them. If I met someone who had flown a plane, I envied them. They became an icon. They set the bar and I wanted to do whatever it took to hit that mark. To me, there was not anything greater than the idea of being in the clouds, defying gravity in something as majestic as a jet or airliner.
That dream came crashing down at the age of 9.
I had just driven with my dad to see a good friend of his, named Harry Smith. To me, Harry was my hero because he had done all the things nobody else had. He had once owned an elephant. He had once owned a monkey and he would constantly tell stories about them. He had been an animator for Walt Disney (and had drawn us pictures once).
And of course, he had been an airline pilot.
In that ride home, I talked and talked about my dream, how I knew it was going to happen, how I wanted nothing more than that. He was silent for a bit. And then he gave me my first real dose of reality...
"That is a great dream, Paul. Just remember that they work 100 hour weeks and are always away from home."
"That's Ok," was my response...
"It is very hard to have a family..."
I was devastated. After that, when people asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, rather than confidently saying "I want to fly planes!" I would shake my head and say "I don't know." For the next long while, I struggled to find an identity. Something that was ME. Something that nobody else could claim was their idea. Planes had been my passion. And that had been taken away from me.
Then when I was 15, music completely stole my soul.
The story goes on, but the point is that this movie captivated me in more ways than I can really explain. The realization that the paint and pay and glamour of a job are just the outside and that on the inside, things are much harder. You always walk forward with a sense of "Well, what if?" There is still a piece of you captured in that passion.
Kudos to Colin. This film is a masterpiece. While some will say, "That wasn't a terrific shot," or "The special effects are cheap," they are missing the point. He captured soul. And that is the art of this. That is the beauty.
Thank you so much for sharing this personal story!
This is still the most personal short film I've made and the struggle and the uncertainty and the disillusionment and the constant search has been a prominent narrative in my life. I'm so glad that this film resonated with you.
Best of luck!
Paul Crenshaw thank you for sharing. i believe you've helped me to see different layers to this story.
that's scary, the only difference between you and me is that music stole me at age of 12.... I wanted to be an airforce pilot in nz or usa, but then my dreams were shattered because "you have to kill people." this movie completely spoke to me also...
There is something magical about film. I just discovered you today and have watched 3 of your films, and they've all been good, but this one has definitely been my favorite. And even better, I had no idea what the ending was going to be until the very last final moments
Chris Parkhurst so glad to hear that! Thanks for checking out my earlier work!
I never comment on CZcams videos but I’ve just watched Skywatch, The Secret Number, and now En Route, and wanted to thank you for a wonderful experience.
You have extraordinary talent and I can’t wait to see where you’ll end up. The way you spin reality in your stories will keep me returning for more. Good luck with Skywatch!
Both of his short films have started at the end of the story, included some form of time travel, and have been _Awesome_ !
This is how parallel universes work. From our childhood into adulthood we're giving choices and those decisions we make have different outcomes based on our decisions. But all these infinite realities exist simultaneously along our conscience lifeline in space/time. This was a very good short story. Love it's truth. I'll see you in the next life or post 😀
Yes true if the concept of free will are actually real, there will be too many universe by now and it will probably be affected by other intelligent being if not everything like rocks to cosmic dust
@@Vysair you're quantifying the creation against the creator(s). God can never make a rock IT can't lift. We as creator(s) have designed a creation so defined we forget we are the creators but it doesn't matter our absent mindedness for the creation will always be that rock. For I AM.
I appreciate all the amazing feedback, guys!
This is the very first student film that inspired me to become a filmmaker today, watched it almost 10 years ago, still feels the same, so well done, and exciting every time I watch it. Can't wait to see your film in theatres one day Colin, huge fan!
Muzappar Osman oh my gosh, thank you so much for this!! Means a lot to know I’ve inspired you somehow in your filmmaking journey. 🙏🏼
@@ColinLevy Holllllly Shxxxxx!!!! My idol just replied to me right away!!! YES!!! 10 years ago, I saw your film, then replied SCAD for filmmaking and came to USA 2012 and started my journey. I have been following you since, I love your films and concepts!
*Made in 2011*
CZcams: imma recommend this in 2019
This is interesting, I've never seen a story told backwards like this, but it works surprisingly well.
Absolutely sublime. I saw Skywatch and saw you were a very talented story teller but then this really connected with me. So well crafted and skill-fully told. Give this man some Hollywood resources and let him entertain us for the next few decades!
WOW Colin, Holy Sh*t. You've just done it AGAIN! Everytime you amaze me with great short movies! You're great! And also the whole team! Great work...AGAIN!
Truly a great film. I'm glad that it was story based and not visual effects based, seeing as many visual effects artists seem to fall into that error when they make short films.
Every couple months or so I checked your website for new stuff. In the past 3 or 4 years I saw a great development.
En Route is a really awsome piece of art. Thank's for finally sharing it with the internet ;)
I really liked the story, Colin. Still works all these years later, which is the sign of a classic tale.
Colin Levy is an amazing story teller. I've watched three of his films and they each have a "Story First" feel. No doubt the FX, film texture, and actor performances are also all excellent (especially considering the limited budget of a short) but these aspects of his films serve to properly amplify his wonderful stories.
Thanks so much man! NFFTY was a ton of fun.
That scene with the stethoscope was on point, Colin.
You sir have earned my complete and utter respect!!!!!! :) :) :)
A butterfly effect perfectly executed!
I wish I knew more people like you in person!
One of the best short films made so far!!! Amazing work! Deserves so much more views!
I remember always watching PeerlessProductions as a child on your old website. This film is great!
Those ninjas cutting onions. I'm not crying, you're crying! *cries*
It's amazingly emotional in such a simple way. I guess, films are getting either oversaturated with complex emotional moments, or miss them altogether nowadays. This looks and feels very fresh, even now in 2019. I really like your signature, am excited to see what you're going to come up with next :)
That was amazing...this story really hit close to home. I can see the amount of work that must have gone into making this video, thank you.
WOW! that was seriously very well done. very professional in therms of vfx and cinematography editing etc... and a very moving and compelling story line to back it up. Great work! keep it up!!
The effects are stunning- the story is captivating- and may i say the score- is impecible, even the happytimes, it had that underlying sense of urgencey- it really played upon the veiwer rather than say forcing the feeling, and i could say the same about the visual acspects aswell- favorited
Just came here after watcing your next level film SKYWATCH ...Goddd ..this is crazy .. this is awesome man .. the ending was Jaw dropping .. how come this video has so less views and thumbs up than it actually deserves .. u are one hell of a filmmaker .. love from india♥️ 🇮🇳
i can't believe this was 7 minutes long. its such a great story it felt like a feature length film. This is the second film i saw of yours, keep up the great work.
Eli
This short film is.... AWESOME!
I was one of the firemen in Squad (the box truck), man this was forever ago :D Good work!

This is superb! Absolutely fantastic! Liked and favourited and you deserve to do so well with this film! You deserve recognition for this! I wish you all the best!
Wow, that's profound. Totally loved that.
This is a great film! Miles better than some of the stuff in cinemas at the moment! It tells a really compelling and interesting story with a great twist at the end. Well done!
Amazing story telling. Hope to see more from you, Colin.
Wow... Colin Levy I really hope you continue making movies... Don't quit your day job and become a pilot ☺️
Much love from the UK.
P.s. Sky watch and Secret number also amazing love your work.
Well in some parallel universe maybe we made different choices and are different. Amazing to realize that such a small choice triggered by such small incidents leads to something that changes our lives.
Absolutely stunning!
@byssacpack Thanks so much! I hope I can continue doing this stuff. :)
Great job man, I really liked this. Beautifully shot, great story, and very good compositing as well. Can't wait to see more work from you!
Just amazing. This short really goes on the emotions. This is not just a story... ah it is just not describe able. Great feeling.
UHUUUU THANKSS COLIN! FINALLY!!
That was simply amazing.
Very wonderful. Not only does it look gorgeous, it made me think about my own life and decisions, as a great film should do. :) Can't wait to see more from you!
Good end. The dream of the pilot turned him into a paramedic. Dark fan. Liked it.
I got this one when I donated to him on kickstarter, everyone else should too and be a personal santa for him.
Wow. I did not expect that ending! Well done!
Such an amazing short video, defiantly one of my favorites since I feel like I share the same love for aviation which the main character does, once you have that passion its a tough thing to loose.
Very nice. The ending got me. Goose bumps . . . .
Amazing, truly gripping. the editing was fasinating.
Great short Colin (and team) - loved it.
You shouldnt have such a detailed plot summary in the description though, I watched the short before reading it (glad I did) because it left me trying to work out what was going on while I was watching it - quite enjoyable and rewarding once I started seeing what was going on.
But yeh, been waiting to see this for a while now :)
Most excellent!
definitely will be seeing more of you! :)
Man, you know how to tell a story! congratulations!
Really amazing work Colin! You and your team always create the most tallent shot! :)
Very cool. Love how you went backward in time through his life. Worked surprisingly well.
Fantastic job!! It looks like that was a LOT of work... Very impressive!
Great short film. Must have been a lot of work... well worth the effort.
Congratulations on winning the CINE Golden Eagle from a past Golden Eagle winner.

@Chaoslava
Its not before the crash or due the divorce.
Its a coinflip decision made as a child, Colin illustrates what a choise made decades ago, could result in. tracking back trough the pilot line. You're shown the outcome of the of both choices when they come together. one resulting in death the other in life.
excellent! very well done!
Awesome work! Keep it up!
Studies have indicated that in an emergence situation, pilots don't scream at each other but continue to try and fly the plane. Last thing heard before Impact, and this is universal throught languages is, "Ah $#!+".
Wonderful!
really great..two thumbs up!
Is this a short film? I can't Believe! How much production quality it has. Mind Blowing. I want to know how to make this type of production quality in Short films.
Great Job Buddy!!!
Wow can't wait to go next year!!
that was really , really good.
THAT WAS AMAZING! how long did this take to make in terms of the vfx? it looks like a lot of work! but it turned out really well! NICE JOB AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
