- 2019 trip to Finland. Was able to see a fair bit of Helsinki and then spend some time up north which was amazing. Wish I could have had more time to see family on this trip but next time for sure. Here's of the great things that I came home with from my trip ... trip of a lifetime.
I was like "hey this is guy from Luke's vlog, let's check out" so I did 🤘
Looks like you already found a lot of good stuff, but I can guarantee you there's more. As a Finn I am humbled by your generous attitude. Hyvin sä vedät!
Thank you. The two weeks I spent there I could not get enough; the entire country felt like I was visiting my grandmother's house. :)
Amazing to see that some of these normal things for us are special for you. Thank you for being so interested in our culture.
Kiitos Sam. It's certainly deep in the blood.
One thing you can do with the tyrkisk peber is to crush them to tiny pieces and put it to ice cream. Tastes very nice.
That' does sound good ... but I already ate them all. :(
...And some Salmiakkikossu mixed in there too! Yum!
Or put it in a bottle of vodka
Oh! So touching. I even shed tears. So much tender sadness and love. Oh! Koskettavaa.
Love the video and the genuine interest in so many things about our country! I would not pick many of the items, but when you show them, it really makes me appreciate what we have here, thank you!
What a nice vid!! I really liked a lot when you speak finnish. That's so awesome. 😊 Waiting more vids like this ❤️
Mukava video/nice video👍
Greetings from🇫🇮
You couldn't find Bogeyman mugs because they were sold out after Finland won World Champs in hockey spring 2019. Key player was the captain, Marko "Mörkö" Anttila. Mörkö is bogeyman in Finnish.
I found in My Heritage that I am related to him though not as a blood relative, "Marko Anttila is your first cousin once removed's husband's fourth great uncle's wife's first cousin 7 times removed." lol 😂
You all probably dont care but does anybody know a method to log back into an Instagram account..?
I somehow forgot my password. I would love any assistance you can give me.
@Adam Harlan instablaster =)
@Jack Bowen i really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and Im in the hacking process atm.
I see it takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
@Jack Bowen it did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thanks so much you really help me out !
Budapest is one of my favourites. The Moomin dictionary's pretty cute :-)
Just found your channel and boy is it fun to just watch ur vids and enjoy... As you can see right away if u post a finnish tasting/opening/reacting thingy it blows up its just really fun for us finns to see some other people (outside finland) try our things. Nice video!
ha.. it would seem so. Thanks for the feedback. I enjoy making the videos, even before anyone was watching and have a lot more footage from my Finland trip that I still need to get through.
Wauuu... Nyt olet tosi suomalainen :D
Se että tykkäät Turkinpippureista ja salmiakkikarkeista kertoo eniten suomalaisesta perimästäsi ❤️ All the other CZcamsrs from UK, US and so on can’t even hold the candies in their mouths for more than couple of seconds 😄
There's some decent finnish stuff👍 Big respect from Finland❤
kiitos Mr. Hole
Budapest is very special, most delicious. I like filled liquorice also but just sukulaku, where there is chocolate taste. Before the Covid I visited Finland twice a year from Norway and always brought back Fazer chocolate and certain kind of dark rye bread, at least 6-7 bags, about 2 and a half kilo. You can only buy one type dark bread from Oslo. It is funny but I have never liked salmiakki, maybe I could used to it.
A pity I cannot send you a video how to pronounce the Finnish in the Muumi book. Maybe I could make one to CZcams if I could find the book.
I noticed the organic version (the one you have) of Juhla Mokka coffee is absolutely superior over the regular one. Just tastes so much better. Good choice. 👍
some pretty good treasures there!
Been trying to ration the candies. :/
hi! i'm lefthanded and i have the same puukko, works really well for me
and also the batch of finland is ok to wear in finland, lot's of people use it, not just those idiots.
Such cool stuff man! Im def picking up that moomin book for my trip 🙏🏽🇫🇮
It’s certainly a little more my speed.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who likes the salmiakki chocolate!
Love it! I just ordered more online since I was not able to go to Finland this past summer.
@@RoyRissanen hopefully by next summer people can start travelling again!
@@user-vx8mh4iy9c Yes, let's hope so.
I hope you won't lose the lure if you really are going to try it in action. With such a special lure you either catch a coelacanth or lose it for good.
Me neither! I'll be sure to be very careful but I think such a special lure deserves to catch at least one fish. :)
I'm Half Finnish Half Estonian who's lived in Finland for the majority of my life, I wear Estonian flag on my shoulder on my jacket, but whenever I visit Estonia, I take it off(velcro sticker)
you shouldn't take it off, if there's not any reason to be ashamed of it.
OMG! I almost cry when I watched Your video. It was so nice and I was interesting in for your treasures what you take to Your home from Finland. Moomins and salmiakki.. I love your video and welcome back to Finland. Please, make more videos of this item!! And You speak Finnish quite good!!
Good stuff :) And I agree, lets take the Finnish Lion back, unfortunately it's been misused lately. P.S I have some Finnish-Canadian family in BC.
BC is a beautiful province; lived there for several years when I was in the Navy.
@@RoyRissanen I have good memories from Vancouver and Vancouver Island, the nature is just amazing.
Remember to put the coat of arms on left jacket sleeve. Heraldically the lion should always face forwards when on a person or vehicle. Should have a mirrored image on right sleeve. 😊
Shout out from Tampere, Finland! o/
I really liked your video. One can see how you value your finnish heritage. Keep it going on :) Do you know where your name Rissanen originates? Like from pre-world war II? Sounds eastern finnish.
Have to say you look a bit like the singer from the Finnish band "Poets of the Fall"
I got that a few times when I was there... That's how I knew I was home and with my-people! lol
Something tells me that you really like salmiakki
Kaada vesi purujen päälle / put the coffee first and poor the water on them so it doesn't spill over 😉
You are very WELCOME ! ..........................
as a finn, the thing is that one has to look at finns living abroad to appreciate the things we take for granted in finland. for example in finland most of the people just buy karjalanpiirakka at shops, not many people bake their own.
Yes, very much so. That was what I tried to put my Top Ten video around; just everyday things.
I even baked some in Australia.
Nice video ! ps. You're cute!
squirrel1 *blush. Thank you.
Trips to places with good food ruin foods for you at home.
Like Belgium ruined chocolate and beer for me :)))))
omg, eat all those licorice haha
They did not last that's for sure. Thanks for watching Pekka.
if you go to Kauhava in Finland you kan get any knife you want. it is the Knife capital of Finland
Nice, Thaks Mickael. I'll hopefully have more time next time.
You can also check out Terävä knives from Varusteleka. Good quality finnish knives and they ship internationally as well. You can also order a can of kalakukko too.
Thanks Vulcan. I'll have to take a look.
Could you make a video about ur heritage? howcome ur family moved to the america. That would be interesting. Couldnt find a video about that on ur channel. Tho i bet u get this question alot :)
Thank you Sootiss. I have been giving some thought to something along those lines. I talked a little about my grandmother in a couple videos but would like to do something more extensive.
puhut hyvin suomea
Kiitos.
Roy Rissanen!? That is your name!? Rissanen is a common last name in my home town Siilinjärvi where there is village called Rissala where are many people with last name Rissanen! By the way it is where is base of Karelian Fighter Squadron..
managed to get in touch with a number of Rissanen's as of late and found that my family is much more extensive than I realized. I was amazed when I first got to Finland last fall and the hotel clerk asked my name and I didn't have to spell it for her.. that it THE FIRST time that has ever happened to me. lol
"Little Moomin book from Finland" and showing the book which has huge "ISO" on the cover. Iso = big. 😂
haha good observation.
Huomenta Roy. dude. I'm still sorry for what I said. Your mornings seem great.
No worries. :) Kiitos katsomisesta Makulax.
Well hello there, CZcams recommendations. Also, hi Luke, if you are reading this.
To you as well; Thanks for stopping by.
The knife can be dangerous since he has finnish blood in him Maybe you should wait a little before giving it to him.
He’s been working his way up. I did tell him it’s best to never take your knife with you to a wedding. ;)
Do you know this youtuber mrfixit2000 who immigrated to Canada from Finland in the 70s.
I know of him. He lives in my home town.
Somebody might think you like Finland.
dont think its lappland folks music , probably sapmi joik and thats in north of norway, sweden, finnland and russia .
Could be. He played a little more traditional when we were there than it sounded on the CD.
It's really hard to save those candies to Christmas, you need to hide them so that you forget them and find them Christmas 2020.
rissa is dialect word for rulla which is roll. nen at the end of word means smallish. so you last name means smallish roll.
After all the eating I did when I was there I would say I'm sporting more of a medium-size roll. :/
Now top tip for your next visit : halva factory oulet sells 500 gram liquare bags for just 1 €.
Good yo know.
Juhla mocca is the best.
I've run out again since out christmas order. :(
Suomi
0:36 wait didnt you say you were finnish
Nice puukko you bought. My fafourite is Jätkä puukko from: marttiini.fi It's everday puukko, not fancy but fits like a glove and good steelblade.
Ah yes, those are very nice.
It's weird to see American who likes salmiakki, a unicorn for sure
If you say finnish pastries and sweets are good you should try estonians, then you want to move there instead of Finland! And the pastries in southern small towns of estonia pastries are not only better but a lot cheeper.
I guess you already perhaps know about this, or you have all the mugs you want. But here is a link for you. www.finnstyle.com/ Then just put Moomin in searchbar and tadaa you will find all the moomin theme things on it.
Thank you. I may look to get one more just to have an even set.
>finnish candy
> Budapest :DD
Ate so many over Christmas.
Dear Roy R, the finnish lion is standing on the croocked sword of the EAST, and keeping the STRAIGHT sword of the west in his hands. It has NOTHING to do with nazis (NSDAP ) . Quite simple, (and true) look at the wars WE had ! .........................
Sorry if I was not clear. I very well understand the history and symbolism of the crest, our wars and other Finnish symbols. I was only disappointed to be advised not to display my new badge without risking being grouped with far-right groups.
@@RoyRissanen Oh please mr Rissanen, I`m a Finnish "historian", and of course there are MANY crackpots telling you whatever suits them. Mutta kyllä se on perkele niin että me olemme SUOMALAISIA. I do hope You got that. Take Care, Pidä itsestäsi huolta, Ralf, Rafa .........
@@ralfhaggstrom9862 "Oh please mr Rissanen, I`m a Finnish "historian".." ? Sorry if I offended in some way; I'm not a Historian but have tried to stay on top of Finnish and family history back home the best I can. All the best.
@@RoyRissanen Parahin Roy Rissanen, as You surely know, there is quite a lot of "different thruths" about a lot of "signs". In my mind, whatever "sign" You wear, the main thing is what You think of it. (did I make any sense ? ). Still I do like Your "input", and may I wish You all good. ( BTW I`m a swedish talking Finn ). But VERY bi-lingual. Take Care !. Ralf ......................
