I've seen and played the high-end Clavinova CVP809GP. Does this have a comparable or even better sound than the 809, minus the larger grand piano look and computer screen? I'm guessing the 809GP is the top of Yamaha's digitals at the moment, but the 785 does have a nice sound too. How are they similar and different? thanks!

You're looking at fantastic and high-end Clavinova models from Yamaha. I'll do my best to outline the answers to your questions below:
The Speakers on the CVP-809GP are a bit more robust and placed on the cabinet in a way to represent the most resonant spots on a grand piano. The extra speaker system on the CLP-785 is powerful, refined, and very enjoyable to play. I am going to list the information below for your consideration. However, both of these models solve different problems for piano players and provide a different experience. I'm sorry to hear this... The global supply chain has not recovered yet and everyone is experiencing long delays with shipping. If you are in the United States you're welcome to contact our store and be put on the waitlist for a CLP-785 but we don't have any in stock either...

@Andreas Sjöström Sounds good! Timing depends... We have been planning many months ahead (in some cases 12 months ahead...) with orders and we have quite a few CLP-785s on order so it is tough to say who would get the piano in first. We are caught up with our waitlist on the 785 so you would get the first one that comes in with us.

What's the deal with that lid? It looks terrible with those exposed screwheads. I have an old Clavinova that has been great, but with that lid, it makes me think that the product line has gone downhill.

Yamaha continues to develop updated technology and innovate the Clavinova series in all facets.
