In this video I'm in Beirut, Lebanon. Lebanon has made many headlines in recent times: the mass uprising in 2019, the port explosion in 2020 and the economic crisis have all led to negative media attention. I've come to Beirut to find out what the locals have to say and what it's like for people living there today.
I had so much fun filming this video and would like to thank everyone who made it possible!!

The Partying never stop. Every nation in the world still parties , it is human nature. I am sorry this is a stereotype and stereotypes are all wrong. I am sorry. I have to say that. Lebanese people are very hard working and always struggling to make ends meet, the stereotype of parties and what have you doesn't make things better.

What happened to muslim world ??
there is no modernity -:modern Thoughts ,human rights, freedom of speech ,democracy, organisational freedom ,Education ,publications
9/11 attack culprit were the best example of
Arab world especially Saudi Arabia didn't achieved any social cultural moral intellectual educational democratical & organisational development
most of muslim /African countries are "failed state" to ensure education ,security ,public service ,internal security, even moral values especially human rights ,
Afghanistan Somalia ,Iraq,Siria,Lebanon Libia yemen are the best examples for it and
Egypt, Palastine , pakistan Begaaldash ,Saudi ,Sudan ,Iran Kashmir are the semi- failed states
most this countries controlling by Warlords
the muslim /African worlds are needed industrial training and educational institutes instead of militant group which leads them a complete abortion /wipe out
the whole world is now discussing about Islamic terrorism; World was stucked and shocked by the brutalty & cruality of ISIS ,Al Qaida,Taliban,;Hamas, Hisbullah Bokoharam etc....
i personally shocked how one's can killed innocent children by blasting schools, only one answer :their brain not developed to intact modern world or
there is no in intellectual development .
unfortunately muslim's world Generally arab world and in especially the Levant countries are undergone intellectually highly in backwardness and In these regions any social reformation, renaissance ,enlightenment, & revival didn't happened , that's is the main reason of dictatorship , civil war , islamic terrorism &Anarchism, human rights violations
All muslim countries should say to no any militant groups
gulf countries are very famous for labour slavery and violent against house maids and if the crude oil is not invented the gulf countries would be a big tragedy ,by the Allah grace petroleum is changed their fate
Only way to social development is implementing complete education, encourage publications ,establishing democracy, allowing organisations and political parties, freedom of speech
the main reason of Arab backwardness are lack of Democracy, lack of freedom of expression(even mosques imam speach are recording),lack of political ,social ,cultural and religious organizations ,lack of cultural /social activities like literature, arts ,festivals
      Lack of visionary leaders &
Refusal of printing press at its starting time ,lack of modern Education and doesn't get properly islamic education
the printing Daily newspaper,Weeklies, magazines, periodical are very very nominal which is important part social development
lebanon ,libia ,iraq ,siria ,yemen palastine etc most of countries are completely wiped out or falling in complete anarchy or ulta poverty
If the LTTE was running educational institutions and medical colleges in Srilaka ; Their society will be become highly developed society ;but unfortunately they runs militat group it leads compete failure of Tamil people and pull down Srilankan in financial crisis
      which same as Arab countries
Arab countries should be follow the social development and growth of Kerala the most socially developed society not only in india but also in world (in kerala you can see amazing harmony among three major religion Hindu Islam & Christianity;in ,in Srilanka LTTE focused in militant setup intead of social cultural educational development of their society ; it leads civil war and complete wiping out of them while in Kerala all religious organizations focusing in Educational institutions ,
the daily newspapers paper printing in Kerala around 50% of their population while it is in Egyp it is only 1%
only one solution to irradicate the islamic terrorism and immorality to achieve the renaissance;open books libraries in each muslim villages and mosques promoting reading habits ;thus they can achieve modern civil values ,human rights, moral & ethical values ,democracy etc
10 years Iran -Iraq war,Kuwait invasion,Gulf war,9/11 attack,Thousands of bomb blasts in Iraq,IS,AlQaida,Boko Haram ,Taliban Hisbullha,Hamas,, ,Palastine ,Kurds & Hooties Yesdies Issues,Siriya/Libyan Civil wars,Countless suicide bomb, knife, Lorry ,gun attacks in Europe cities Nadia murad Jamal Kashoggi ,Jihadi john ,Muhammed Atta (May allah cursed him )Saddam hussain (May allah cursed him )Bashar al assad are showing their of lack of religious education ,humanity, morality, world views
      1. The main reason is the foreign invasions Alexander ,Nepolean ,Chegisghan ,Thatharis,Timor ,Mugal ,Europeans Invasions to this regions in centuries made them social backwardness .South india is entirely deferent from north india in social/cultural development especially Kerala state which is achieved European standards in Human development index because of less foreign invasion to this region
      2. Refusal of printing press there is a any reading habits like news paper ,magazines, weekly, classical books like novels Europe enlightened happen after invention of Pritting press unfortunately muslims countries are 150 years back,(Some sociologist saying it because of refusal printing press by Turkish Khaleefa for 2 centuries they did not achieve modern human values and human rights ,world view
      in kerala (
      1. lake of damocracy & organizations ;most of these countries are autocratic, military general ruled ,un-democratic ,one party ruled countries ;it made utter most backwardness of their citizens ,lake of damocracy, most of muslim contraries domocracy very very nominal or fake democracy presidential election is is fake democracy people only voting not participation very less(power should be decentralised same like india here states Governments are highly powerfule than central Government and under state government there is distict Panjayath ,block panjayath and Panjayath (it mean we are electing 5 persons to enforce the democracy Parliament member ,State Assembly member ,Dustrict panjayath member ,Division panjayath member , finally ward member )The Autocracy, political unrest and unstable Governance are made them centuries backward ,there is no political parties and organisations ,trade unions for labours, political parties of society /sects like workers ,Factory workers , Drivers ,Marchents ,teaches government employees ,doctors ,etc
      2. lack of cultural /social activities /Festivals ,cultural events such as literature, drama, arts festivals ,classical cinemas which leads good harmony between people
      3. lack of proper islaminc education(Madrasa);in Kerala (South indian State)excellent islamic & modern education getting the kerala muslim;it to be adapted by other muslim countries Kerala muslim best model of all others muslim world in both religious education and modern education
      4. Lack of visionary leaders & corruption ,atrocity -State dependence and cowardice of the religious leadership. for example the cursed man Saddam Hussain; he killed millions Iraq -iran war , killed thousands of minority Kurds,he attacked Kuwat; it leads to Gulf war millions lost their live & wealth meanwhile Dubai ruler is delayed millions of dollars construction project to avoid nuisance of bird laying eggs near a project site.
      5. It is absolutely failure of Arab mothers and teaches;they didn't teach moral values and stories, human rights values ,world views to theirs children /Student)
only one solution to irradicate the islamic terrorism and immorality to achieve the renaissance;open books libraries in each muslim villages and mosques ;thus they can achieve modern civil values ,human rights, moral & ethical values ,democracy etc
one decade Iran -Iraq war (1 million people killed),Kuwait invasion by Cursed Saddam Hussein ( we can say when hear his name لعنه الله وعلى آله May Allah cursed him and his family)that much cruelty he did in Middle east
Gulf war,9/11 attack by Arab Youths led by cursed Muhamed Atta( we can say when hear his name لعنه الله وعلى آله May Allah cursed him and his family) .(3000 innocent people killed ) is best example of Arab backwardness Thousands of bomb blasts in Iraq ,(in my college time i had shocked about numbers bomb blasts reporting in newspapers)Palatines issue ,Kurds & Hooties ,Yesdies Issues,Siriya,Libyan,Yemen Civil wars,Countless suicide bomb, knife, Lorry ,gun attacks in Europe cities by arab refugees (Europe hosted and sheltered the refugee from Lavant region but they are killing people there also
finally it was stunned and stucked for me that 80% levant men are womenizer during my 16 years job in Gulf

  • @baseline_hitchshalhoub2686

You know Lebanon makes my heart ache, with all what has happened and still happening to this beautiful small country!
I have lived in the US ,visited many European countries.Travelled and stayed in the West.Inspite of all of it's problems and imperfections. It remains a very charming and lively country. The Lebanese are civilized educated people, speaking 3 languages .A very resilient and strong society that adapted to withstand the hardest situations. The society is hybrid religiously , Muslims, Christians, Armenian Christians ,Druze. The recent Pope called it the country that makes the best example of coexisting religions living together.Whatever conflicts that happen between them is triggered by politics.
Lebanon has one of the best cuisines in the world, famously known for it's artistic touch, taste and food preference versatility. You can have one of the best night life experiences in the world. The history and culture is one of the oldest in the world. The Lebanese originated from the Phoenicians . The people that invented the simple and practical format of writing .The best sailors in the world at the time, for trade and expedition purposes.Later on established Carthage city in Tunisia by Queen Elissa. And the famous Hannibal Barca that almost defeated Rome!By the way Barka is a famous existing Lebanese family.
Historical sites from 3000BC are all over the place from different civilizations . Phoenician,Greek, Persian,Roman,Byzantine, Crusader,Arabic ect...
Baalbek is the biggest religious complex in the world built by the Romans.
Our small piece of land has a an extremely rich landscape with beautiful beaches along the Mediterranean .Rising into mountains up to 3000m above sea level Breathtaking scenery with valleys in between.
There are tons of beautiful qualites and elements to this charming country.Travel bloggers are always surprised and fall in love with the country.Calling it their favorite destination from all the countries they have visited.
I still have hope that we will rise again into prosperity!
By the way I'm a musician and the live band scene in very active in Lebanon. We play mostly all music styles Lebanese,Rock,Pop, Jazz, Lebanese Western Fusion ect....
The new generation,The Millennials and the younger have a very globalized and modern set of thinking than the older generation. The ones that hold the country as in government, old fashioned parents with their stubborn mind sets that caused the Civil War!
For the lack of electricity supply from the government.A big portion of the population including me .We have installed Solar Power Panel Systems at our homes and it supplies 24 hours of electricity.Ecofriendly ,bill free , it's just wonderful!
The bloody politicians have stolen every single penny from the Central Bank.Leaving the people without basic services, infrastructure,a steady currency grid. The Dollars have been transferred outside the country in tens of billions.
In all cases sooner or later Lebanon will be the Paris of the Middle East once again!

The video is well done but it seems to understate what a basketcase the country is (although I think it does refer to it, accurately, as a "failed state.") Religions coexisting with each other? It's only slightly less violent and dangerous than nearby countries, which are torn by religious extremism and terrorism.

I live in Trinidad and Tobago and in our anthem, we say” Here every creed and race find an equal place and may God bless our nation” and so it has been in our land that all races all religions and many different cultures coexist in peace! We rejoice with those who rejoice, we cry with those who mourn. Our different way of life is not a bother to us because we see each other as citizens. It's called the most beautiful place in the world, because of our people. We enjoy each other's company. And laughing is our most enjoyable pastime. The thing that we share in common is the respect for God! We allow each other their choice. No one is hated for their race or religion here. You'd sooner see a Christian defending a Muslim or Hindu if he was being advantaged! We stand up for each other because we see everyone as the creation of God. So our opinions of others are placed on the back burner and being warm towards one another and caring is high in our estimation. Peace is not peace if you can have it only with yourself!

Anthony Bourdain was another person that truly got it as well and this was just as special as his No Reservations episodes.
Lebanon has that intangible magic and it's easy to miss if you stay on the surface. Props to the people showing you around.
Thank you for making my home country proud.

What the guy said on 21:20 "Lebanese live in the moment" is absolutely true. It doesn't matter if your rich/poor, all Lebanese live in the present and rarely think about the future and certainly never think about the past. For westerners this might seem like a curse, but living like this honestly lowers your stress and makes life more bearable in such an unbearable environment, it's just sad
I'm Lebanese and I live abroad, but I still have that mentality and I cope with it just fine.
Btw, you should have tried Beef Shawrma with garlic, contrary to public opinions it's really good

Hi, I'm half Lebanese and the neighbourhood I lived in which was in Tripoli was mixed with an old church and mosque nearby. There are definitely a few neighbourhoods that were mixed as I had Christian and Muslim neighbours and everyone got along well enough (in my neighbourhood anyways).

A truce doesn't mean we get along. Islam destroyed this country. The French should've made it completely Christian like what the British and Jews did in Israel.
