@@Jessica-je1ky Some people can do that. I can do that. He could have made that take with the knowledge that by doing that he could appear more menacing... or... could have just made because of muscle reflex.
I love this scene for many reasons. The actors, the performances, but most of all, this sound: 1:35. Why it sounds like a spatula hitting grass when he puts the cigar in his mouth is beyond me.
Once again, this proves that respect is EARNED. Col. Jessup literally earmed his stripes & paid his dues. A lil courtesy goes a long way. Jack nailed this scene & shows why he's an OG on/offscreen.
Earning stripes and paying dues does not confer upon anyone the right to behave sadistically and to make unbecoming misogynistic statements to a female commissioned officer of any branch of the Armed Forces. I know the Marines are by and large a misogynistic bunch; keeping it to themselves is apparently a problem among cutthroats like Jessup and Kendrick.
No, he didn't earn shit. He's a piece of garbage as you go on to find out later on in the movie. And if you haven't found that out, then you're an absolute idiot.
He wants courtesy, and at the same time insults a fellow serviceman, a US Naval officer? hmmmmm, you have to show you're the better man, not stoop down to your insulter's level by playing his game...
Wow how rude was col. Jessup to jo? I like how she did not let the intended sexist comment upset her & she just kept asking her ?'s. Also refreshing no love story. It would have distracted from the story which was like a great play.

@@freelancerAM Lol whose lives did he save? We weren’t at war with Cuba, and they hadn’t posed a threat against us in a very long time. At the end of the day, Jessup's supposed righteousness is more a product of his own narcissistic mind than anything else.
@@freelancerAM You would do well to exercise the same thinking. Jessup's constant mantra of "saving lives" and what he purports to do for the national defense are smokescreens, and you know it. He hides his cruelty and his criminal behavior behind that mantra because he believes no one will contest that motivation. 300 yards from Cubans trained to kill him? Bullshit; those Cubans are guarding their territory just as the Marines guard ours. They no more want to kill him than to kill themselves. Transferring Santiago off the base "puts lives in danger?" Actually he's wrong in every respect. Just because Jessup believes his own bullshit doesn't mean we should. We didn't "need him on that wall" and he is, in fact, a lousy commander, frequently violating the law, and, when the crap hit the fan, he was willing to let two of his men take the rap for his actions. I love how Jack’s presence in movies makes you feel like everyone else in the scene are stand-ins.
Jack was incredible in this movie
I love how at 2:49 Jacks ears go back like an aggressive dog. Brilliant actor.
Holy crap they really do! How does he do that?!

Lmfao a spatula hitting grass lol
Marvelous scene ,
Ahhh, the things you were able to say in movies then that you can no longer say today
God I hope one day I can tell off Tom Cruise.
BOOM! Just gave yourself away in a single sentence!
Lol!
You nailed it.
That is what Paul Newman meant in that pool shark movie.
The Color of Money.
Cruise is just a guy you want to hate.
His character has served as a model for the complicit upper brass nowadays-copycats.

I guess, but he also tried to frame two of his men and got another one killed so I don’t know how much respect he should be given.

@02:44 that look on Nicholson's face
A superior flex
The combined strength of the US armed forces fell by 10% when Colonel Jessup was Court Martialed
As a navy vet I resent the remark about our wife uniforms!
Was Jessup more upset about the uniform or the Harvard mouth - or about the same?
both lmao

Yeah. It’s a movie.
Yeah, he's a hypocrite, an asshole and a murderer. That's the point. Have you seen the movie?
This just reinforces how unfit he was to be in the position he’s in. Not to mention framing two of his men and getting another killed.
This is so funny! :D

Mhmm- Jessup respects no one yet DEMANDS that everyone respects him. I also enjoyed the lack of love story.

the thing is, he is right
Too bad he doesn’t practice what he preaches. His order accidentally killed one of his men and he tried to weasel his way out of the consequences.
