    THE PASS...
    It is relatively easy to jam the line when you know that they play has to be a run.
    Even against a guy like Marshawn Lynch. (and I'm a big fan)
    Alternately, passes from inside the 5 are so short, and so fast, that they are almost never intercepted.
    In fact - during the entire season that year, this (I believe) is the only pass from that distance that was intercepted during any game, anywhere.
    The young defensive guy gets all the credit - he recognized the play and stepped straight into the path of the throw.
    If he had not anticipated it, he could never have intercepted it.
    On the other hand - if they had tried to pound the ball in and failed - the coach would then have been crucified for being too predictable.
    Nothing succeeds like success, but when you fail, everybody else would have made the right call.
    It was a pass with a statically low risk, that even if it was dropped, would have forced the linebackers to "read" the play,
    rather than jam the line - giving the runner that fraction of a second to shoot an open gap.
    But then, that's why you play the game.
    But personally, I wish he had called a run play.

    • @mrgmusicclass
      @mrgmusicclass Pƙed 2 lety +2

      Yes. And despite Collingsworth's superlatives, Lynch didn't have great goal line stats that year. It is not nearly as bad a call as people made it out to be.

    The Kick Six was the first time I have ever seen a missed FG returned for a TD(happened again in an NFL game a year or two after). Seen many blocked ones returned. As a Bama fan, it was heartbreaking but we won't get much sympathy for it, having won 6 out of the last 12 national titles. I just hate that it prevented Bama possibly becoming the first modern team to win back-to-back-to-back titles.

Jermaine Kearse previously made a catch for the Seahawks that can be described as a David Tyree 2.0 moment, a catch that put them in position to win the game and I couldn't believe Russell Wilson threw the ball into the teeth of the Defense instead of handing off to Marshawn or trying to stretch the Defense out.
    Stefon Diggs game-winning catch was called The Miracle In Minneapolis, but it was all for nothing because the following game was The Failure In Philadelphia and the Eagles went to the Superbowl.

    Minneapolis Miracle was in the 2nd round of the playoff, winning sent the Vikings to the NFC Championship game for the 10th time since the Super Bowl era started(one was before the AFL-NFL merger so it is technically an NFL Championship) The winners of the Conference Championships go on to the Super Bowl. The Vikings with 10 appearances by far have the most appearances of any team that has not yet won a Super Bowl. They are also the only team that has reached the Conference Championships in every single decade since the first Super Bowl(1966), they have eight years to reach to keep the streak for the 2020s. The AFC's Houston Texans are the only team that has never reached a Conference Championship.

    So much context to each one of these plays.. for us Seattle fans: Ray Allen was a Seattle Sonic and held most 3s. ALWAYS overlooked but most clutch 3 shooter. Saves the series with that game tieing 3 otherwise they lose; Miami wins game 7. Marshawn goes beast mode over Saints, gets fined for the jump into the end zone and Seattle created a manmade earthquake due to the jumping up and down. And then our Russell leads another 4th quarter comeback as usual, Kearse makes an impossible catch so it looked like Seahawks gonna win the Super Bowl over Brady but then our former Seahawk Malcom Butler saved the Patriots. Tom didn't deserve that ring, only Butler. We should have run as it was only 2nd down, 25 seconds and a timeout. Maybe throw on 3rd or 4th but he would have made it. But it is what it is! Our 43-8 Super Bowl win over the 'Amazing Peyton Manning Broncos' should be in this video 😎

    • @debh3385
      @debh3385 Pƙed 2 lety

      I think you have a few facts wrong, no...I know you do. First, it was New England that had the 4th quarter comeback. Seattle was winning at the end of the 3rd. Second, Malcolm was never a Seahawk, he was an undrafted free agent signed by the Pats. Brandon Browner who was on the field and gave Malcolm the heads up on what the likely play was was the former Seahawk. Third, why would one man get a ring? The entire team gets a ring. Obviously you are a Seahawk fan. This was a great game by both teams but the interception was the memorable moment.
      And sorry, these were sports moments in this video. An entire blowout win, which is only fun for the hometown fans, can not be considered an iconic moment, it is mostly just a boring game.

      As a Seahawks fan and even bigger football fan, no they shouldn’t have run on that down in that situation. They had a timeout left so they could’ve tried drawing them off on second down and obviously burn the timeout to get an actual call in. However they had either just spent a timeout or had the play before go out of bounds (honestly can’t totally remember) so burning a timeout back to back, or on an already stopped clock, is pointless even at that stage of the game. The first down play was a run. So even at midfield the defense will play run after a 8-9 yard run which is about what the first down play was. Now leading up to this all season long Lynch had been awful in 1 yard to go situations. Now it is a four down situation so a pass play is going to have to be a call at some point and immediately after a strong run on first down is perfect. In all situations. That play was actually Seattle’s bread and butter red zone play that year. It was one of if not their most effective scoring play. One could say that with that in mind obviously the Pats would prepare for that and should’ve called a different route. Could be right thinking that. I think the thrown could’ve been put more on Lockette or even a little behind him. Ultimately I personally don’t like Lockette being your red zone target there. Baldwin, Kearse, or even Chris Matthews who was having a very good game would’ve all been better targets there. It’s really just an exceptional play by a corner. He’s initially beat on the route by over 5 yards

Then to the bottom of the 11th inning, Freese is again at bat with the Cardinals down to their last out, & Freese to his last strike...Freese hits a walk off game winning home run to tie the Series at 3 games each. Two night's later, St. Louis won Game 7 6-2 over Texas for the Cardinal's 11th World Series Championship (2nd only to the New York Yankees' 27). 3rd baseman David Freese was born and raised in St. Louis, growing up a Cardinals fan. It is debatable and hindsight is easy but the Seahawks decision to pass makes sense to me when you look at the clock situation and trying to get the max number of shots at the endzone. One timeout with 25 seconds left, I think if you run on this play and the next there is a chance that the clock would run enough that you don't get a third play (you at least are rushing to the line for the 3rd play if you don't get in on the first 2), in their mind they were likely thinking a pass to the endzone at worst ends in only a few seconds lost and the clock stopped on the incomplete pass, then they could run on 3rd and 4th with a timeout to use between them.

    That Super Bowl between the Hawks and the Pats
some shit happened that game. XD That interception right at the end resulted in a brawl with multiple useless penalties thrown down. Earlier in the game, Kearse had made a back-landing catch that put the Hawks back into position for that last crucial failed throw. It was said that Wilson should have handed Lynch the ball, guy was beast enough to pull three defenders down the field at times. Also, the Hawks had soundly embarrassed Peyton Manning at the bowl previous, with the Legion of Doom defense absolutely shutting down Broncos offense.

    On the play at the goal line for Seattle...They DID run with Lynch on 1st down. Didn't make it. This was 2nd & goal. Then they tried the pass & the rest is history. It's easy to say after the fact. They used this same goal line play during the playoffs already successfully. That's where Belichick's mind is the best. He studied their goal line plays & practiced against it with Butler. That's why he was subbed in before the play.

    Yeah, should have handed it to Marshawn. Seahawks had a time out left, give it to your best guy. Even the read option, where Russell Wilson either hands it to Marshawn, or runs it himself depending on how the defense reacts. The play called was too cute by half.
    The Alabama vs Auburn is a major rivalry in College Football. The winner of that game, Auburn, went to the SEC Championship and won it. In the National Championship game, however, they lost to Florida State.
    Rivalry Weekend is the last weekend of the College Football regular season and is usually Thanksgiving weekend. Some of the rivalries are Army vs Navy (1890), Ole Miss vs Mississippi State (1901), Virginia Tech vs Virginia (1895), Washington State vs Washington (1900), Michigan vs Ohio State (1897), Clemson vs South Carolina (1896), Georgia vs Georgia Tech (1893), Louisville vs Kentucky (1912), Alabama vs Auburn (1893), Wisconsin vs Minnesota (1890), Oregon vs Oregon State (1894), Florida State vs Florida (1958). There are plenty of others. Many of the rivalries have nicknames & trophies specific to that rivalry.
    A team with 2 or more losses is all but eliminated in contention for the national championship at the Division 1 FBS level. Winning all your games in the regular season does not guarantee you a playoff spot. They're only 4 spots, but there are 130 D1 FBS schools competing for those spots. A committee ranks the teams. Who you beat, if you lost any game who did you lose too, was it close? If you were heavily favored in a game did you beat that team soundly? Whatever other factors that the committee considers, they're not entirely transparent.
    On Thanksgiving the Lions always play a home game, followed by the Cowboys. In recent years the NFL has added a 3rd game.
    The Divisional, is the 2nd round of the NFL playoffs. There are 4 rounds, Wild Card, Divisional, Conference Championship, and Super Bowl.

    The crazy thing about the Saints - Vikings game is that, the Vikings have terrible playoff luck and especially since 2008 against the Saints... The game was well in the Vikings hands before the half then the saints rallied back and there where like 4 lead changes in the last 2 minutes or something, and no one believed the Vikings would be able to win it short of a TD, we have had also horrendous luck when it comes to FG kicks in clutch moments... The game was the "curse breaker" only to then get blown out by the eagles the following week and loose the chance at playing the Super Bowl at home for the first time in NFL history....
