  • Even though people told us Katowice wasn't worth visiting, we went anyways and are so glad we did! The city is different than any other we have seen in Poland and we had a great day exploring the sites in Katowice. Sometimes before you believe what others say about a place, it's best to go and see it for yourself!
Where we went in this Katowice travel video:
    - Katowice Culture Zone: Spodek, NOSPR and International Conference Centre
    - The Silesian Museum
    - Restauracja Chata z Zalipia for lunch
    - The Nikiszowiec neighbourhood
    - Flower Market Square
    - 3 Maja Street and Mariacka Street
We’ll be spending a lot of time in Europe over the next few months and hope you’ll subscribe to keep up with our travel videos! goo.gl/L3pCUu

So i found this channel about one year and something ago, I wanted to go in Erasmus to Poland, just wasn't sure if that was the right choice (I'm from Portugal btw).. so after your reviews of Poland, I was sure that this country was the best place I could go. I ended up staying 10 months in Katowice and it was the best experience of my life.
I cried seeing this honestly, i miss that city so much, I miss Poland a lot.
So thank you, you gave me reasons to choose Poland one year ago and now you are making me happy by remembering my life for almost a year in Katowice 💜

@@maronkhalilibrahim4565 in my limited experience Katowice is a fine blend of ancient and modern. By ancient I mean medieval. We have nothing like it in New Zealand cities. The closest we come are neogothic churches but many of them have been damaged even destroyed by earthquakes. New Zealand is very earthquake prone the is nowhere where it can be said to be entirely free of earthquakes, hence we are sometimes called, the shakey isle's.

The first Polish city I ever saw was Katowice after a train trip from Prague in 1991. The city was dark, dirty and uninviting. I have been there a few more times since then. Still, it was never really impressive. After watching your video, I would go back again! I am amazed at how much nicer it looks. That modern museum looks like a great place to tour. When I was there last it was a construction zone. They were modernizing the train station and the area around it. It must look great by now.

so glad you were not discouraged by some comments and that you visited Katowice. I studied there and really like this city :) it's very different to many other big cities in Poland as it is quite new only 152 years! That's why the squares and main streets are quite big/wide. Next time in Katowice be sure to visit concart hall you passed by on the way to museum. It's called NOSPR (The Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra hall) and it's amazing inside! Also you showed parts of the square with benches and water "canal", in summer we have palm trees there and a lot of fun. Cathedral in Katowice is also great example of 1920/1930 architecture, giant, massive white church, very, very different to cathedrals in other Polish cities. Anyway, great video! Have fun!

So glad to see you've visited my beloved city! Love your movies and I am so glad you've visited Katowice and broke the stereotype by showing people how beautiful the city is! If you ever get a chance to come back there you may want to check out the NOSPR (National Symphony Orchestra of the Polish Radio) - one of the best concert halls in Poland, bars in Mariacka street or i- f you visit during spring/summer - Katowice's beautiful parks - 3 Stawy, Park Kościuszki or Park Chorzowski (the biggest) . Not many people know that Katowice - despite its industrial nature - is one of the greenest cities in Poland (40% of its total area is forests and parks!!) + If you liked Nikiszowiec, you would like its older "brother" - Giszowiec too, it was created by the same architects but it has completely different style of so-called "garden city" - it is full of cute, little houses from the beginning of the XX century and interesting historical buildings :) Have fun!!

Heey, it's so nice that you had given a chance to Katowice :) Beautiful city in my personal opinion. Judging by this video you have seen only a few, you should totally see something which is called Modern Architecture trail!
You know, the whole region of upper Silesia is so complex (by this I mean: historically, geographically :), socialy as well) that not only the Katowice but also Gliwice, Zabrze or Tarnowskie Góry are worth visiting. By the way, did you know that this industrial region has enormous areas covered by 'nature-thing' places - I mean forests, lakes, it's close to the mountains..?
I could be your guide throughout the Silesia, if you're visit it again. :)

Yay, thanks youtube recommendations algotithm 💖 I didn't know your channel but when I saw someone made a vlog in my city I watched it and really enjoyed it. Seriously, you did a great job proving your point and it looks like you two had some fun there.
I think Katowice is not so popular among travelers for the same reasons people were telling you not to go there - everyone relies on false, outdated opinions. And when it comes to verifying, it's Silesians vs. rest of the country (who think they know how it looks, but didn't really saw for themselves). So I'm really glad that you - as you said - came with an open mind :)
Greetings, I'll go watch some more of your videos cause this channel looks promising

To those who claim it's an uninteresting place, Katowice is a city that's been a regional centre of modern architecture since at least the 1920s - they got one of the first "niebotyki" in Poland (meaning skyscrapers, although much lower than today's standards), some interesting examples of modernist urban planning as star-shaped blocks of flats (somewhat similar to Marina City towers in Chicago), the main railway station had been a brutalist landmark (although sadly only a little part of it left after a recent extension into a shopping centre), and from our times pieces like CINiBA Library, NOSPR music centre, underground Silesian museum (based on a former coal mine) or the new conference centre... love seeing some of those through your lens, you've got an eye for architecture!

While I do agree that Katowice is that now, since I was born I went there every year several times to visit my family and it just started to rapidly change since the last 10 years and changing fast. Before I feel like the city didn't have that much money or at least they weren't investing it. Finally they seem to be getting over the communist aftermath. I love the way they are modernizing it!

Katowice is a beautiful city. About 5 years ago renovation was started here and it has really changed this city. Besides what you already saw there are also beautiful parks here. 3 stawy - its like a lake complex, very big and great for a walk or a bike ride. There's also Park Śląski with astronomical observatory, amusement park and cableway through the park.
