I have 2, 1617 and 1641. Neither are in as good condition as that one but one can only imagine what history they've seen. My family first came to America in 1635 so I can dream that my coins passed through their hands as some point.
Wow, those must be full of history and journey! Thanks for sharing!
1648! The end of our 80 year war with the Spanish empire. Finaly kicked them out. Well worth a nice coin.
Happy new year, BYB! Best of wishes. :)
According to the label, this wonderfully looking Leeuwendaalder came out of what is now known as the province of Utrecht. So the knight on this coin will probably have been important for what was known as the Lordship of Utrecht back in 1648.
And on a side note; that code on the side of the knight, MO. ARG. PRO. CONFOE. BELG. TRA.
is in full: "Moneta Argenta Provinciarum Belgii Traiectum". Which translates to: "Silver coin of the United Provinces of the Netherlands", whereas Traiectum is the Latin name for Utrecht.
The other side says: "CONFIDENS. DNO. NON. MOVETVR", or: "Confidens Domino non movetur". Which translates to: "He who trusts God is steadfast/firm".
Happy new year to you! Thanks for all the really useful information!
I am Dutch in my childhood we payed with Daalders( dollar) worth 2.5 gulden.(1.5 euro) It was a giant coin with silver in it. It was the size of 2 times a 2 euro coin. It also was not attracted to a magnet so people lost a lot of the in the waters here. A had a lot of them if a knew the value I wouldn't throw them away for euros.
That's not true. In Dutch a "RIJKSdaalder" used to be 2.5 guilders. A "Daalder" was 1.5 guilders
I have one from Overrijssel, 1644. Also has a (tiny) crack!
Thank's for showing coin.
Holly shit, amazing coin from my country. Is looking very good and a nice year 1648
It's very very cool indeed!
Definitely a nice year, with the Peace of Münster which ended the 80 year's war with the Spanish. :)
That's a true masterpiece of a coin. 👍
It sure is!
That is a very cool coin! I will have to keep a lookout for those and maybe add one to the collection some day! Happy New Year BB!
Happy New Year BYB
Thanks! Same to you!
It is a very good leuwen-daalder! MS63 is very well preserved, so it can't be much circulated. The quality and degree of preservation have more connection with a higher value, as cracks are rather common, It is an original daler, minted in Utrecht. The same motif was used in other mints in the Dutch Providences. Like West-Frisia, Kempen, Zwolle, Over-Ijsel, Gelderland and so on. I have a very similar piece, but it is not so much cracked from the striking and is dated 1645/6 (changed stamp). It is somewhat more worn, but not much. This type of daalder, is similar to 48 duit in smaller silver coins. It is probably having a very uniform alloy.
@Backyard Bullion very cool coin! Lots of history there 🔥🦈🌊
Sure is!
VERY NICE BYB , HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!
Thanks my friend, same to you!
Good sharing .Keep it up
All the best for the new year, what is this coin valued at? Very nice condition for it’s age. Thanks for sharing 😊
A roaring start to 2021,BYB. Love the coin and your narrative 👍
Very envious, would love to have an original Dutch Lion dollar (Leeuwendaalder) in my collection. So far I've only managed a modern restrike from the Royal Dutch Mint, and there's a set of these restrikes from the various provinces in The Netherlands.
You say a Silver Forum member let you have this coin to feature IFF, I'd rather hoped it is yours, a part of the numismatic collection you have.
Thanks for another great episode of IFF.
Sadly not for me to keep this coin, owned by another member of the forum that thought it would be fun to focus. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
Very cool looks like the old Anheuser Busch lion logo on that coin.
It certainly does, very cool indeed!
Wow beautiful looking old Coins friend!!! :D
And
Keep stacking in 2021 friend!!
Thanks my friend, I will do!
@@BackyardBullion you're very welcome friend!!
Beautiful coin. Coins from this era are very interesting.
Sure are, full of history!

1st beautiful coin
Glad you like it!
Interesting showcase, thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hello I have one from 1640 from flea market!
Beautiful coin.
I picked one up about 4 months ago, at a local flea market. Mine is pretty worn..,but has a full legend/date. I got it for $50.
HI BYB. THAT COIN LOOKS A LITTLE RUFF RUFF. I'M GLAD YOU WERE ABLE TO COLLAR IT. IT'S TRUE, I'M NOT LION. THAT COIN IS NOT ALL IT'S CRACKED UP TO BE. *TYU*
It is indeed a bit rough, but it is also unique and very special!
Hi Donald.
@@meteoman7958 HI METEO. WE MISSED YOU YESTERDAY. *TYU*
@@donaldinnewmexico I fell asleep watching a youtube disaster movie.

A beautiful looking coin would look good in my collection..
Tengo una de estas , soy de argentina , un saludo
I have a couple. 1637 and 1617. One has a double clip. Neither are quite as detailed as yours.
Hi
Hello!
Beautiful
What does it weigh? That's a propper coin.
Lovely video but I definitely would´ve liked to hear what it estimates to in terms of value today
It's so difficult to know what value the planchette crack would add, certainly a fair amount though
@@BackyardBullion That makes total sense, Even the ´generic´ version ranges from 177 to 600$ on ebay. People will absolutely wonder tho, watching this video. You could use the mystery factor as an advantage for increased value to your video >
守lower in this condition they go for more than $1,000 but the crack ads value depending on the fancy of the collector
@@donknizi9792 I believe you, Thanks >
Are we going to see silver rise rapidly again in the near future?
It's anybody's guess my friend, nobody really knows.
