Rose’s opening scene with in her striped suit and the enormous purple hat - her gloved hand reaching out to be helped out of the car - was breathtaking.
Hats off to the people that made this movie. They took the audience back in time where they could envision what 1912 looked like.

I have a Rose doll in this outfit. I absolutely love it! My favorite fil costume of all time.
She looks divine in this scene (and the whole movie).
This is my absolute favorite shot EVER for this movie. The over the top shot of Rose getting out the car. Its beautiful, breathtaking, amazing and it all happens in a matter of a seconds. Its not even a minute long but damn it James knows his stuff. I can't say how many times I've watched it. When I talk about it, people are like what shot are you talking about? Its that fast. But to me it's also so good. Its everything.
IMHO, people not remembering this huge hat have not watched the movie or are completely unworthy of watching it. It is THE symbol which stands for the Belle Epoque era when the whole thing took place. Another metaphore is the recurring song "Come Josephine in my flying machine", because at that time, aeroplanes heavier than air took off to the sky for the first time in history.

Technically she would have been booked as a First Class passenger. Maids & servants would occupy adjacent cabins to be on hand when needed.

This is actually really weird watching this scene with all the info ik about Titanic, no one really called it the biggest and most luxurious ship in the world as it was literally just a 10 feet longer version of the Olympic, those reactions were most likley how ppl felt on Olympics maiden voyage

Cal was actually a good guy. He just wanted to give Rose the world, and she cheated and embarrassed him for a guy who wouldn't have been able to give her the life she was accustomed to.
I agree. I don't understand why she hated him so much.
Because she was 17 years old and was basically forced by her mother to marry Cal without taking into consideration whether Rose actually wanted to or not? Are you two really asking that question?
Even if she did put aside her feelings for financial security and had stuck with Cal, the robotic routine and the fake chivalrous etiquette of the rich had driven her nearly to the point of suicide. Cal nor anyone else in her family bar Molly to a certain degree saw that, which is why she wanted out.
Cal did not care for Rose whatsoever. I can't believe there are people that are questioning that. He just wanted to buy himself a pretty and agreeable doll and Rose's mom loved money more than her own daughter so she was gladly selling her to Cal. Disgusting behavior by both of those people. Nobody deserves to be treated like an object like they treated her.
