Together with the Sigma 18-50 this would make a very lightweight compact aps-c setup, whereas Fuji lenses seem to get bigger and bigger.
Tasty little combo!!! Good shout.
I was searching for a review for this lens. Great to see you did one.
Hope you like it!
@@DamianBrown great review . I might go Viltrox over Samyang though. The 12mm didn't leave a great taste in my mouth. I love the 13mm though .
Nice that there is the mode selector for the control ring. That’s something I wish the Tamron lenses had. This 75mm was the only one of the Samyang FE lenses I was hoping would make the journey to X-mount-the rest are too big or too dark for APS-C, but this has potential. I know the Viltrox 75mm is a stop faster, and it’s IQ is fantastic, but the minimum focus distance wasn’t great and the size was big for me, since I don’t actually shoot many portraits and overall versatility matters more to me. Certainly something I’m considering.
I hoped for the 135mm 1.8, because it is optically superb and there is no such a lens for X Mount available yet.
@@muttishelfer9122 That's fair. Mostly I'd been thinking of their "compact" FF line, which don't really offer much for crop sensors. But the 135 would. Halfway between the Fuji 90 and 200, kinda.
Ye that and the 135!
Thank you Damian!
My pleasure!
Always appreciate your waffles! Just pulled the trigger on one of these. been waiting a long while for a 70 f2ish lens. Maybe a fast 135 or a fast & chubby 27mm with 62mm threads would round out the set nicely
I would love a 135!!! But ye that and around 27 would make it s perfect set. I'm thinking of taking this and the 12 on my next trip abroad
Nice!
Images look good. Lots of cool lenses for Fuji lately. Was that the Sony ZV-1 recording the talking head segments ?
All T4 this time
Preferring to keep my gear small and light, it’s between this Samyang and Sigma’s 56mm f1.4 for me (though honestly my preferred portrait lens would be a compact 65 or 70mm). Until such a lens is released I think I’ll pop for the Sigma 56. This entry from Samyang is tempting though. Thanks for the tour!
I might take this and the 12mm on my next South America trip
At 2:55, were you using any Fuji film simulations? I loved the colors on those shots.
Yes, pro neg hi / astia/ acros (r). I tend to go with Astia for the extra warmth.
Thanks for the review! One thing I didn't see covered was how the IBIS of Fuji cameras works with this lens. Is it as good/almost as good as with Fujifilm lenses?
Yes, definitely is in my experience
@@DamianBrown Brilliant, looking forward to using this lens!
@@daveferrie just used it for 2 table top clips for 2 future videos, the close up stuff I do in these videos, and it worked really well! Granted not Ibis related 🙂
How is the autofcus of this compared to Viltrox 75 mm ?
czcams.com/video/hSi6hKbbOSE/video.html
Better.
I'm so in between the Fujifilm 90mmf2, Viltrox 75 1.2 and Samyang 75 1.8 for weddings, what will you choose I don't have anything above my 35f2 and 16-55 lens
Tough choice. Any of the three could do a great job. I'm using the Viltrox but the Fujifilm is a close second for me, very close.
VILTROX
Weight and size of this 1.8 seems a big win.
Were some of those images captured at the recent Wex open day buddy?I received an invite, was off work on the day and considered going but bailed out thinking there was nothing I really needed. Ironically, I was in that store last Saturday buying something I really needed 😁
You used to love being in my sample shots 😃
@@DamianBrown Ha ha! I didn’t have any make up on that day 😀
Is there an estimate of when it will be released?
Just told me today: Stock expected March/ beginning April.
Samyang is making better lenses! So, the wheel that applies for manual focus, if you are not on manual it turns into the Aperture ring? Thanks for the video!!
In theory yes but so far I only get that working in movie mode. I think a firmware update will come to open it to stills
@@DamianBrown thank you very much!
Unfortunally the estimated price is too high related to the E Mount Version and the Viltrox 75mm 1,2 :(
Isn't that the same with most things these days? Not to knock the Viltrox, but usually you pay a touch more for local store presence, and all that that brings with it.
The E-mount was released 2 years ago, before high inflation pushed all prices up considerably, doesn´t have the second generation body which includes weather sealing and E-mount offers Samyang far better economies of scale with a much bigger user base (APSC and FF). Of course the E-mount is cheaper now after two years on sale... but its hardly fair to compare a launch price of the second gen body with a discounted price of the first gen body. Taking into account of inflation using the Bank of England inflation calculator, wouldn´t you know it the launch prices are practically identical.
You have a point with rhe Viltrox, but I don´t really see them as competitors. If I got the Samyang, I´d keep the Fuji 90 and use the 75 mainly for travel and general purpose. The Viltrox 75 is more specialised, like the 90, even if it lacks some of the performance (AF) features (minimum focussing distance) and rendering of the Fuji, and I doubt I justify keeping both, and I certainly wouldn´t want to travel with it for anything more than a weekend! I can see why Damian might end up keeping both!
I prefer Viltrox options 13 and 75.
Great lenses!
Viltrox 75mm 1.4 or Samyang mate?
czcams.com/video/3s_j1ihjnXI/video.html
In fact, the closest competitor to this one is the Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 - a comparison would be interesting.
I prefer starting at the focal length. 85 and 75 is a different ball game to some degree.
How when there is a 75mm Viltrox?
@@Eyeofkamau There is a review right in this channel: czcams.com/video/hSi6hKbbOSE/video.html
Viltrox literally makes a 75mm f1.2
@@andrescruz9448 I have the 75mm 1.2.
But is a much heavier and expensive lens.
Image quality seems a little flat not as contrast as (V)
very expensive....
Isn't everything? 😞
Bokeh is awful. I think this is a great mini teleprime more oriented to landscape and stealthy street.
Landscape / street yes!!
@@DamianBrown It reminds me somehow to the old Nikon 105mm f/2.5 in full frame
