Would love to see anamorphic versions of these! ;-)
I can definitely see myself owning the whole set of these. Really love using AF on my sony cameras and having them all be the same weight and size is so nice for gimbal work.
I picked these up from you guys last year. Worked really well in the project we shot.
I love this kind of innovation, the purist might look down upon these lenses but having matching autofocus cinema lenses, which are lightweight, not to expensive (i suppose) and could have a killer feature like auto ND is mega for smaller content creators. Thnx for your objective review ProAV, this might get big very soon. I'll be keeping an eye on these :)
Definitely worth keeping an eye on them! I like them far more than I was expecting too
Variable stepless electronic ND infront of the lens should be a killer feature
This is so amazing. I own few Samyang lenses and wish there was lenses like that for my sony fx30. Well my wish is fulfilled.
So how do these cinema lenses differ from ordinary ones in smooth focusing? I just don't understand why they are cinema lenses?
This is very exciting news I'ma hoping we get many autofocus and lightweight cinema lenses
This is cool, but it is disappointing to hear we are only still speculating on what the front interface could be for now with the them for sale. We really need to see a roadmap and not ideal speculations to know if they are innovative or a gimmick.
If they can make a decent 1.8-2.0x anamorphic scope with a built in front variable diopter that works well on all three of these lenses, they could revolutionize things. Of course, it would have to be quite massive. Personally, I feel like focusing on auto-focus makes makes the whole system less desirable (because of the manual focus trade-offs), but it is definitely the smart business move for capturing that consumer market. Colour-matching at this price-point is already a really big deal.
But if they develop a great attachment system for the front they might eventually bring that system to their VDSLR range for the people who prefer true manual focus
I don’t see how 2.0 on a 16x9 sensor would make any sense.
I’m always confused on the mathematics on it - but anything wider than 239/240 aspect is just way too wide
So 1.8 even on 16x9 would be too much. IMO.
@@TheSteveKinney It's less about the final aspect ratio and more about the anamorphic look. A proper anamorphic look is 2X. If you just care about a 2.39:1 aspect ratio, feel free to crop a little off the top and bottom of your spherical lenses' 16:9 frame.
Would love to see them in RF mount for RED Komodo/Raptor and Canon R devices. Perfect match as well 🚀
I've got the 75mm just now. The design is awesome, good weight factor and the lense feels sturdy. In hindsight on a FX30 it might have been better to go one size smaller. And I do wish - if that is even possible - the lenses would have OSS. But you can't have it all. Overall quality though seems to be great!
I think if you don’t care about the look, slight gimbal adjustment and you use autofocus all the time, just buy the Samyang AF 24 and 75 f1.8, and get the Sony Fe 35 f1.8… none of those lenses has any focus breathing and you can combine those three for around $13-1400 compare to these 3 V-AF lenses for around $16-1900 (depends on where you buy them.
I think the Sony 90mm macro has the best manual focus system that isn't mechanical, and I'd love to see something like that implemented into future auto cine lenses
These lenses are ground breaking!
why no numbers to pull focus or changing aputure? :(
Rain spinner attachment would be cool!!!!
How about a "Smart" matte-box that also can contain a wireless interface so that a manual focus-pull can be done remotely?
I have the 35mm, it's great on the FX6 and A7siii,, works well on the Rs2
Is this really worth it?.Thinking of trading my 35mm sigma dg dn for this.
an accessory I would like to see for the lenses is.
A wireless follow-focus that uses the lenses internal focusing motor (imagine a dji mavic style controller. but with 2 dials on it. one for focus, one for aperture. that connects to the lens. maybe bundle it witth an Electronic-ND........so 3 dails. 1 for focus, 1 for apature, 1 for nd. all while keeping the camera small, light and cheap)
An Autofocus x1.33 Anamorphic adapter that covers the 20mm angle of view would be god tier.
That would make it as wide as a 15mm and about as wide as you can go before you get too much rectilinear projection warping.
🤤
Interesting lenses! That focus breathing though...
Hmm, if VND, that can be controlled via the ring while having the aperture control from the camera or possibly the other way around.
That is a very good point! That would work well. Lens in AF, control your Variable ND with the focus ring. Snap it off the front when not needed.
well since it has pl like front mount and electronic contact points, I suppose it is for anamorphic adapter. only that kind of heavy, electronic-af capable adapter needs that pl like front mount and electronic contacts at once
It certainly seems built to keep something in one place without moving/rotating, which would make sense for an anamorphic adapter
please make it for different mounts
What do you shoot these talking head bits on? Looks great. I’m sure you’re right about an ND resolution up front. If so, the will sell like hot cakes. Do they offer RF version in the future?
You'll need to speak to Canon about any RF versions. I doubt they'll be opening up their mount anytime soon.
Why not in EF? I would have tried these
Are these APSC coverage?
Adding Optical stabilization would be great!
Are you gonna do a comparison of the 35mm Samyang VS the 35mm 1.8 Sony? I'm in the market for one of these. I'm considering Samyang it's slightly cheaper, but I do want the Quality of the Picture to be equal or better. For example color, Sharpness, Ghosting, Flares, distortion? I like the Samyang cause of the possibility of having an anamorphic Adapter for the future within the same lens.
I won't have time to do that specific comparison on this channel i'm afraid. But if you are in the UK and a customer of ours we may be able to arrange a demo for you to come and try them out for yourself?
Certainly an interesting lens concept! My concern, as you said it too, is the front tally light appearing on reflective surface (or even a face, no?). Can they be turned off?
You can just stick a piece of tape in front of them. Not elegant but it works.
@@MatthPeder i got the lens. It's fantastic but plastick-y. When i put on the ND filter, it blocks the tally light. Thk gudness
I was excited about the idea of these, being able to actually switch seamlessly between autofocus and manual control with FIZ motors.
But the manual focus appears to be no different from any other AF lens 🤷♂️ so what makes these any different? What benefits do they offer over the AF lenses people are already using? I cant figure it out 🤔
I know this is an old comment but the benefits are image consistency throughout the range, T stops instead of F stops plus the front attachment now has a full manual focus wheel with hard stops. They are pretty good lenses.
no aperture ring with visible t stops marks? big mistake
Don't Zeiss Batis lenses match between focal lengths? That's another similar option. While not exactly marketed as a cinema lens set, one could argue that Samyang's designs at least used to be the same as their photo lenses but with a new coating. If that's still something very important then you can pay a little extra and Zeiss will engrave the text "cine" on the lens bodies.
I'd have to test them to comment on how well they match lens to lens. But I certainly like the Batis lenses. One of my favourites for E mount
Either of the Tally lights may be turned off via the dock device, also focus direction may be reversed.
Good point! But thats not a quick solution if you are faced with reflections while filming
nice!
Maybe I missed it but I didn't hear you mention that they are all the same weight so you don't need to rebalance a gimbal when switching lenses.
Right, amazing. I'll say owning the whole set would be great and is a must, no worries about balancing swapping constantly
Could you please please test these on an FX6? I know the lenses work on mirrorless but I testen and early model of the 75 t1.9 and it didn't work on the FX6. Same as other photography lenses with af like the 24 f.18 and sadly the 135 f1.8... Trey simply don't work on the FX6. It's almost as if Samyang has an embargo out to not test it on the FX6 because no one online speaks about the AF on a bigger body and only tests on mirrorless (And I know it's more likely to use it on a smaller budget on a a7 etc but the one mount should also work fine on the FX6)
I'm in the same boat, originally had them for my A7SIII which works fine and when I upgraded to the FX6, none of them work at all on that body😒
I suppose the focus ring is just an encoder anyway, so why don't they add hard stops? I understand it kills the possibility to work against the AF (to correct), but does anybody even ever do that?
I'm no engineer, but I believe it is more complicated than that unfortunately
@@carlyates2487 but that's pretty much how wireless FIZ units like the one from Tilta works.
The position of the front tally light is stupid. I'd put gaffe tape over it, but it may impede the use of front ND filters?
1.33x adapter ?
Cine lenses with tons of focus breathing... Not surprisingly no mention of that in the video, since it wouldn't make a good sales pitch. It's very probable that Sony's breathing compensation will not apply for 3rd party lenses, hence the question - what is exactly the benefit of those lenses for cinema? What is the advantage over Sony's own lenses, which offer great image quality and have zero focus breathing, which is so important for filmmaking?
The focus breathing is terrible. I think they'd be better described as lens for video work - it seems they're basically designed for easy use on a gimbal.
The whole design concept is for gimbal and drone work. Focus breathing isn't of great concern in either of those scenarios. The "sales pitch" is same weight and size so calibration doesn't need to happen with lens changes.
Oh and which Sony lenses have zero focus breathing? All my GM lenses do. The 24-105 and 35 1.8 have minimal, but every other Sony lens I have used have Fb.
Is this for canon
are these lenses OSS ?
samyang v-af 35mm t1.9 auto focos test
I heard a rumor that they building an anamorphic electronic filter so will add in front of the lens if is true then I? Then the market of cinema lenses will completely change . Bath they working on multiple electronic filters for the lens so will see exactly what comes.
nice
The nex coming would be "anamorphic adaptor", or "Drop Filter". I gess so
AF anamorphic optics?
I just hope Samyang will figure out their decentering issues. I hate playing lens lottery, so I opt for Sigma lenses instead as those are produced domestically in Japan.
"but I don't think that will ever really exist"
The Sony 16-35mm T3.1 does it. It has hard stops, is linear, and totally feels like a manual cine lens. It cost as much as an FX6 though.
As these are internally identical to their photo lenses, I don’t really see the point beyond easier gimbal work.
no hard stops = no remote focus? remote focus is standard on the sets ive been on.
You can use a wireless follow focus with a lens with no hard stops. But its certainly not as good and the calibration can be knocked and go off for example. So its not ideal
I thought that would be the biggest selling point of a lens like this. Hard stops for remote focus and autofocus for more run and gun stuff. A bit disappointed to see that they didn't do that
Ok so … how did you manage to overlook AF performance in this review? It’s one of their primary selling points! AF is in the name?
I hope they make an L mount version. 😅
An L mount and an RF mount option would be fantastic! Fingers crossed we see that over time
Digital variable ND
Laidar sensor
I looks like the focus breathing is horrible. So definitely no cine label worth.
however, the focus breathing is terrible for cine primes
Its definitely there, but I wouldn't say it was terrible.. i've seen much worse!
@@carlyates2487 yes, still lenses have a lot more, but i don't know any cine prime lens that is that bad there
and in connection with an AF this is even worse!
These are just rehoused samyang photo lenses.
not buying another Samyang lens as none of my f1.8 primes (24/35/75) work on the FX6...👎
only for sony.. very sad😢
Wouldn't call it a cine lens. it just happens to be a "matched" prime lineup. I'm not against it or anything, but seeing it vs the v dslr the color rendition of v dslr seems much creamier like what you'd usually expect in a "cine" lens, regardless of the bokeh. I do like the cleaner bokeh, but then the focus breathing still gets bothering compared to today's standard. Looks like even a viltrox 23mm has less breathing than the v af 35mm
There is too much focus breathing for me. czcams.com/video/Sti1TD5qsq4/video.html
It’s innovative but after owning them. If you want a Cine look, this is not it. You’re better of pulling yourself with a SLR magic Prime that’s less money with better build quality or just soften more clinical lens with filters… Sony’s 35mm 1.8 is literally a beater and cheaper lens…
These have a surprisingly nice look, and they're so light. I would take these out and play with them at work constantly. No one ever asked about them, and they just sat there. Unfortunate. They're really cool.
