The 4G-Tronic was used until mid-1996 in some vehicles when it was replaced by the Mercedes-Benz 722.5 which is basically the same transmission with an additional electrically controlled 5th gear for overdrive.

It seems it had a fair amount of city driving!
Also looks like it was contaminated with antifreeze usually when you see the friction plates peel like that it’s from antifreeze

mam w140 ze skrzynia biegów 722.508. Auto nie jedzie do przodu ani do tylu. Olej jest. Proszę o pomoc. Co może być powodem?. Czy moge zamontować skrzynię 722.503 lub 722.509? czym one się różnią?. Pozdrawiam i czekam na pomoc :)
Hi isn’t there supposed to be a control pressure spring that connects from valve body to reversing lever. I have a 722.319 and mine is missing

Latecomer to finding your channel on transmission stuff about Mercedes and I see this is an older video just curious how many miles on that trans and if they had kept up with maintenance maybe that info to many repairs ago.hahaha,, I've a w126 300sel and am bringing up to maintenance and repairing this and that tranny's good just curious to longevity and reliability with good maintenance..😊

Would an OEM friction plates be a must when rebuilding? I have a 722.504 which am currently working on
Also, would a valve body from another variant work (722.508/722.510 etc)? They have a different part number but seem identical
hi, good quality friction plates are ok, choice is yours...the valve bodies should be the same but you need to compare the separator plates to be sure. cheers
@@YepThatsIt Thanks for your reply. I was able to find K2 clutches and reverse OEM so far but the rest are from a German brand called TruckTec which I found a lot of mixed reviews about its brand
Hello! Love your videos!!! I have one quick question. In the end you said .3, .4 and .5 have parts that mix and match. Is that right? I thought .3 and .4 was mechanicly operated while .5 where hydro operated?
Anyway i have a s320 with a 722.508 that needs rebuilding. Do you know about any full rebuild kits available or do i need to buy everything seperatly? Cheers
hi, there are soft parts kits. you will be wise to pull apart and make a list of what you need. cheers
@@YepThatsIt Thank you, I drained the oil out today and to my surprise only 0.7 liters came out. I thought around 7 liters were normal...
I'll try to change the oil and filter first to see if it changes anything
Hi. My 1995 722.5 Flares from 2to3, 3to4. Any idea what may the problem. Transmission was previously rebuild. Are all the parts available for this transmission?
hi, sorry for delay in reply, we just got back last monday. most parts are available, but some are getting hard to source. always check your basics first before you decide on full rebuild. cheers

hi, check all basics first including charged and strong battery and good earths, good electrical connections before you drop the trans pan to check out solenoids, often they get contaminated with fine magnetized debris. see our solenoid cleaning vids. cheers
