      Yea man the poor band was like “shit there goes our living and life,” Vedder didn’t have a care in his life at that point and he musta been going through something cuz honestly I get the impression that he didn’t care if he fell and died either lol.

    • @FoxUnitNell
      @FoxUnitNell Před 4 lety +25

      @@zergtoss1 Vedder had a background in surfing, and though it sounds weird, it'd hurt more falliing off a 30 foot wave and hitting the water than hitting hard ground since there's also the wave's forward momentum throwing the surfer forward from the wave. People who jump from the golden state bridge don't die from drowning, but they die from the impact of hitting the water. I'm sure the band did indeed think he was going to die, but from my knowledge, he'd taken bigger risks as a surfer - whom break limbs all the time from being thrown from waves and hitting rocks from the bottom or otherwise catching overly high waves.

    • @AlphaMachina
      @AlphaMachina Před 4 lety +10

      @@zergtoss1 He cared. I used to climb like this, without any regard for my life, and it was a spontaneous thing that I didn't really think through at the time. Every time I did it, I didn't stop to think about it until I stopped climbing, which was, thankfully once I got to the top, or back down to the bottom, at least until I got high enough that I realized how difficult it was going to be to climb down. It's a lot harder to climb down than it is to climb up. I used to climb up the rock faces at Tunica Hills (Clark Creek) in Louisiana, 50-60ft up hanging onto roots and rocky hand-holds. He said the same thing in an interview that I thought about when I was doing it, that he wasn't worried about it until he got up there. The act of climbing like that is like a form of therapy, as dangerous as it is, and your brain actually shuts up for a second while you're doing it. But the reason? Probably many things, but I do know that he was going through the loss of a friend, Andy Wood, dealing with a lot of angst and depression. He still deals with it to this day, living in his bubble house in Seattle. He still hangs out with Andy's girlfriend, Xana, who lives down the road from him. They go grocery shopping together.

    Well, are you sitting down? This IS a live track! 😄 They didn't want to mime to the studio version for this. They wanted the video to capture all the energy of the live performance, and I think they succeeded! That's what they were all about back then. Of course there was some editing done afterwards (you can hear some vocal layering in the chorus) but the base track is live, both vocals and instruments. And yeah, I would've loved to have been there as well... Aaaand yes, I am jealous of their hair too. 💗

      The same with Alive. I remember the first time seeing and hearing Pearl Jam I was about 16 or 17 years old surfing the channels landed on MTV and came across this video that opened up with ocean waves and then his beautiful guitar introduction next thing I know I see this neanderthal looking man take the mic and began singing something about a mother talking to her son tell him a story about who he thought was his father really wasn't and that is real dad actually died before he had the chance to know the truth. That was the night my life changed forever, and the rest is history... Let's Go Cubbies 2019!!

      An alternate version of the song was recorded with drummer Dave Abbruzzese in 1992 while the band was recording songs for the soundtrack for the 1992 film, Singles.[5] This version was used for the music video,[6] and was used in single releases in the United Kingdom. This version can also be found on Pearl Jam's 2004 greatest hits album, rearviewmirror (Greatest Hits 1991-2003).
