I do love the amount of countries singing in other languages this year. There are 15 countries singing at least partly in a language other than English which is the highest since 2013.

Great reaction, thank you! I do think that the ending fits very well with the feeling of being bereft that she sings about. It makes us crave for more, which is just the feeling that the song describes.
S10 has explained that the song is an ode to all the pain she went through when she had mental health issues. That pain was a constant companion & it was all she knew, so in this song she says goodbye to it as if to a beloved friend. It makes perfect sense to me that she sounds broken & unable to finish properly.

The most dark and depressed song/video combination, great work by director who made this poignant video did justice to the song.
There are lot of symbols definition and meaning... S10➜the moth (her real tattoo), the boy➜the light (her ex-boyfriend who died in a motor accident), her affection like a moth to a flame.
After fighting scence the boy riding off and the next scence there's a guy in front of him➜the boy is Ride with Death.
The scence she's in the pool full of fallen leaves➜her heart like dead water, she throw away all the food from fridge➜sometimes people thinks leaving is the way to close to their lost and reaching for immortality love.
I'm glad she's recovered from the past like the end of the video.....

I absolutely loved the end of the song because it feels like she has overcome something and you can feel that she feels lighter. She has let go of the thing that was holding her back and she is going to be okay. That was the vibe that I got.
You can watch her live on the semi finals and again the real emotions she showed at the ending of the song was absolutely breath taking and even got me tearing up.

I think the Dutch song is magnificant and I really hope she wins because to me, it's the best song- Also, the Rotterdam eurovison, to me, was the best ever! I did wish the staging would be a bit less minimalistic, but I also understand that the song is about mentalhealth issues and the song is called "the depth" so I suppose the staging is part of that being in the dark depth.

Personally I actually liked the pulled back ending. I think it fit the sort of sad vibe that the rest was going for (at least I think the lyrics have something sad to them from the little that I could understand from speaking German). I usually like explosive endings, but here it kind of fit I think.
I can see how it’s doing good on the polls, it’s really catchy and sounds good. Just haven’t heard anything that blew me away this year yet. What’s your favorite so far?

I adored this song. Her voice is incredible. The problem last year were there were so many ballads that I think S10 and Ochman for Poland (who was my favourite, S10 was my #2) were lost in it. Their staging lacked so there wasn't the visual hook either. I still listen to both artists a year later which isn't like me with Eurovision in the past. Loved that it was in Dutch too.

I think that time must’ve been an issue, I was already surprised that the song is 3:05 minutes . As far as I know the songs may not be longer than 3 minutes (but maybe the eorovusion tune and ending cards take a few seconds)
It always makes me so happy to see somebody reacting positive to a Dutch entry and at the same time has good understanding about music
    Oh before I forget,
Don’t know how you fixed it. But I’m so eternally grateful that you didn’t skip parts of the song and also used the perfect moments to give your comments
And (of course) the quality of your audio is so good.
People must know that if you want viewers to keep ‘watching ‘, the video quality is not the most important thing.
If you’re audio is perfect than people keep ‘watching ‘ -
( level, noise suppression if needed and know-how about EBU rules, editing and microphones )
Now of course I don’t need to tell you this (that’s obvious 🏆)

Great analysis, love it! You're spot on, there was nothing in the song that was foreshadowing the pulling back in the final chorus, while usually such shifts in mood are at least a little bit signalled to fulfil that promise -> anticipation -> delivery. I did like it very much but I think your point stands that the abruptness takes away something from it. Did like hearing a song in my native language though, she's a pretty good vocalist although the lyrics could have been a bit more poetically worded here and there (tad too poppy for my taste in its current wording).
Thanks once again for a great video

I think the end should be like that Its the loveletter to the singer ( S10) her sadness. she suffers depresions till about when she was 17 and thats what the song is about. Its hard to be in teh deep while people around you cant feel what you feel. Thats what the song is about.

I don't agree with you about the ending part. Saying they put to much in 3 minutes seems a little disrespectful to me. The team did not rush anything. It was a well considered decision. And there are a lot of live versions available.

    • @TheMuserResolute
      @TheMuserResolute  Před 2 lety +4

Thank you. I do understand. I did have the same issue with Poland (which I haven’t released yet). That being said, that’s just my perspective, and in the end, the composers and s10 are the experts here. I think my worry was I loved the chorus so much in its original form, that it didn’t live up to my expectations on the final chorus.
It is an amazing song though, and I did look at this from a somewhat subjective lens here which I understand others may disagree with.
These artists and musicians deserve the utmost respect, and I do apologise if my thoughts came across disrespectfully. I know these videos are attracting a wider audience to my channel, and you’ll see some (my regular viewers) are very understanding of some of these comments I make, but I know that new viewers may not be, which is fair enough.
It’s tough because Eurovision has their strict 3 mins rule, which presents these challenges

That's totally my assumption however I believe the abrupt ending is there for a reason, just like the last image on the mv where she releases her breath. I haven't checked the lyrics yet but I have read the song is about suicide and her struggles in her past. This is my personal winner although I am pretty sure much "easier" songs like Sweden or Spain will win this year. Honestly after my country (Italy) this is the only song I connected with immediately, evem not understanding a word of Dutch. One of things I like about Esc is when countries sing in their own language, I believe that's in the true spirit of Esc, and music has so much power, it can truly touch a soul like this song did to me for some reason. I am going to check the lyrics although to me this song represent a beautiul example of art.

Not being a composer (not by far) I don't know how to explain myself, but I feel the last chorus should have born enough traces of the previous ones as to make it recognisable, but it also should have changed enough to express the final emotions and add layers.
